Weekly Reflection:
SO THAT YOU MAY BELIEVE
It is not often that the author of one of the books of the Bible comes right out and tells us directly why he is writing what he is writing. In this Sunday’s Gospel reading, taken from the conclusion of John’s Gospel, the author tells us that he has chosen to record these events so “that you may come to believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that through this belief you may have life in his name” (20:31).
The letter of John echoes this idea by saying that “everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ is begotten by God” (5:1)—what we might refer to as being “born again.” Our reading from the Acts of the Apostles for this Second Sunday of Easter shows us exactly what it looks like when believers are born again through faith. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co., Inc.
CHRIST IS RISEN, TRULY HE HAS RISEN! This Paschal Greeting, also known as the Easter Acclamation, is an Easter custom commonly used by Orthodox Christians, including Eastern Catholics. What a wonderful tradition that many of us in the West are beginning to embrace. Throughout the Easter Octave, the 8 day long celebration of Easter which concludes today, and in some circles throughout the entire Season of Easter, in place of "hello" or its equivalent, one is to greet another person with "Christ is Risen!" or "The Lord is Risen!", and the response is "Truly, He is Risen", "Indeed, He is Risen", or "He is Risen Indeed". May this outward witness of the essential tenant of our faith, increase our joy
and praise and deep gratitude of our God; who loves us so much that He sent us His Son, so that we may have eternal life! TRULY HE HAS RISEN!
On behalf of our entire Religious Education department, I am so pleased to announce some exciting forthcoming changes in the way we formally share our beautiful faith with our Kindergarten—12th grade youth. Since arriving in the parish last June, I have come to understand the great value of our Religious Education program here, both family-catechesis as well as our weekly on-site classes. The new program that we will be using for all students is titled, My Catholic Faith Delivered and will, in a sense, combine “the best of both worlds”. My Catholic Faith Delivered has a “flipped classroom” approach which inverts traditional teaching methods by delivering instruction online, outside of the class, and moving "homework" into the classroom. The online portion provides the complete Faith and Life Series text along with activities, games, videos, and assessments (scored by the program itself) and accessible by parents, catechists, and RE staff. The benefits of this new approach are articulated below and on the web-site www.MyCatholicFaithDelivered.com.
Increases catechist time for coaching students on skills and application (less time spent lecturing in class). Assists parents in their role as the primary educator of the Faith by providing a systematic program to
use with children and youth at home. Increases time for group engagement and class activities while giving catechists the ability to assist in
areas of misunderstanding. Benefits students who miss class due to illness, weather, and other reasons. Uses engaging online educational technology that speaks the language of youth.
With all this in mind, beginning this Fall, all students enrolled in our Religious Education program here at SEAS will receive an online login for home access to complete a weekly lesson prior to attending their weekly on-site RE class. More information will be provided at our catechists and parent meetings that are scheduled throughout April.
May this glorious Season of Easter be a time of grace and blessing for us all! CHRIST IS RISEN, TRULY HE HAS RISEN! With my continued prayers, ~ Fr. Bashista

Stewardship Reflection:
Second Sunday of Easter
“The community of believers was of one heart and mind, and no one claimed that any of his
possessions was his own...” - ACTS 4:32
All that we are and all that we have is a gift from God! Think of your family, your friends, your talents, your abilities and your money – these are all gifts from God! We aren’t really owners of anything, we are merely “stewards” of the gifts God has blessed us with.

Feast Celebration
Sunday Feast Celebration April 8th, 2017 at 3:00pm - 4:00pm
In her diary, St. Faustina wrote that Jesus told her: “I desire that the Feast of Mercy be solemnly celebrated on the first Sunday after Easter.” He promised her:
•“The feast will be a refuge and shelter for all souls, and especially for poor sinners.”
•“On that day the very depths of My tender mercy are open. The soul that will go to Confession (seven days before or seven days after) and receive Holy Communion shall obtain complete forgiveness of sins and punishment.”
Join us in celebrating this great feast day which includes:
• Exposition of the Most Blessed Sacrament • Veneration of the Divine Mercy Image • Solemn singing of the Chaplet of Divine Mercy • Silent Adoration • Benediction of the Most Blessed Sacrament • Eucharistic Blessing and Reposition • Blessing of Divine Mercy Images
Additional information about the Divine Mercy devotion is available in the narthex.
Wondering how to live out the response to the challenge Jesus poses in Matthew 25:35-36?
Come join us Sunday, April 22nd at 2:00pm in
the Fellowship Hall for a panel discussion on . . . .
