Modern electric drives are required to have best possible performances
Control is based on fundamental-wave machine model (FOC, DTC) – neglects saliencies, asymmetries, parameter variations, valid only if the flux position is well determined
Real machine physics and geometry cause undesired effects like speed pulsations, torque ripple

Inherent and fault-induced asymmetries can be noticed in the instantaneous value of leakage inductance
We propose to respect machine asymmetries from the control viewpoint flux-angle-dependent value of leakage inductance
Kalman filter is widely-spread method for estimation of variables used in control extend to estimate location and value of the asymmetry

Manufacturing imperfections, machine anisotropy and faults are cause of asymmetries in the machine
Asymmetries are manifested as variations in leakage inductance can be detected by diagnostics algorithm
Machine performance can be improved by respecting asymmetries in the control procedure upgrade to fundamental-wave approach
