I often comment that the Church needs 7 weeks for reflection because resurrection is so difficult to understand. The first few weeks of the Resurrection, it’s almost as if we rub the sleep from our eyes; it’s not until we get closer to Pentecost that we feel as if we understand resurrection. If the Church is honest, however, we never really fully understand the significance of Christ’s rising from the dead! Death gives way to life; grief gives way to fear, and eventually joy; pain and sorrow give way to hope. It’s hope that grabs our hearts the most. We hope in God who gives resurrection to even the small- est things in life: a little bird looking for a Spring nesting spot, a beautiful song as harbinger to warmth and sunshine, an end to sorrow, cessation of pain. Resurrection. It always comes after death. It always means the end of the old and the beginning of the new. It’s God’s way of creating out of chaos again, and again, and again. God bless you with the newness of Resurrection this Easter Season! God give you hope and joy as you find God in simple birdsong, or the delight of trees budding! God grant you to rise each day with new eyes to see, and new ears to listen to God’s wonderful creation! God’s peace and Paschal Blessings, Pr Tim

The most important time for birdwatchers in the whole United States comes in May. Every year, in Northwest Ohio, warblers return to make nests, sing beautiful songs and give delight to anyone who will listen. Birders in the hundreds and thousands will gather in Toledo and its environs to wait and watch. The return of the avian neighbors reminds the world that winter is over and that warmth and sunshine begin to take over!

Sitting outside during these past few days, I have taken the opportunity to listen to the happy birds. Sparrows sang from tree tops, blue-jays jealously scared away smaller birds, hawks looked for unwary prey, mourning doves welcomed the day with their mourn-ful cry. I even got to see a few finches looking for good nesting spots in our backyard! How I hope that someone who sings a joyful song will take up residence there! One cannot help but think of the joyfulness of the Resurrection!

On a morning that, in my mind’s eye I can imagine was foggy, women walked outside the city to a rock hewn tomb where they expected to find the dead Jesus. Much to their surprise and dismay, angels and an earthquake greeted them! Fear set in! They had seconds to deal with the signifi-cance of Jesus death AND now, resurrection from the dead!

In the Church, we have 7 weeks in which to come to grips with the Resurrection of Christ. Each week builds upon the last as the Church learns more about life with God who raises from the dead.

We hope in God who gives resurrection to even the small-est things in life: a little bird looking for a Spring nesting spot, a beautiful song as harbinger to warmth and sunshine, an end to sorrow, cessation of pain.

God’s peace and Paschal Blessings,

Pr Tim

QUILTS OF COMPASSION

“Bringing Help and Hope to the Hurting”

meets on May 4 at noon

Zion’s has an opportunity available to make a difference in the life of someone who is in need or suffering. This year’s Lenten Offerings were given to local

group, Quilts of Compassion to help pay for a 501.3c application fee, transportation costs and shipping quilts to those in need. Quilts of Compassion was founded by Janice

Grimes in 1999, after she received a quilt to comfort her while recovering from an acci-dent. The group has sent quilts to victims of the Boston bombing, tornado victims in Jop-lin, Missouri, Moore, Oklahoma, and Cloverdale, Ohio. To date over 50,000 quilts have

been distributed. Please bring your lunch and supplies and join us. For more infor-mation, please see Shawn Farnyiarz.

BACKPACK BUDDIES

Zion's members will be stuffing backpacks for the Backpack Buddy

program run through the United Way and Defiance College. We will

be on a six week rotation and our first stuffing will be Thursday, May 1,

at 5:30 p.m. at the United Church of Christ church on the Defiance

College campus. With 15 or more volunteers it will take about 35

minutes! Hope we can get a great group going for this worthwhile

community project! For more information, please contact Patty

VanDemark.

Women of the ELCA There is still time to register for the Ninth Triennial Gathering of Women of the ELCA. The convention will be in Charlotte, North Carolina July 24-27, 2014. The theme is “of many generations”. For detailed information about speakers, events, registration and lodging visit www.welcatg.org. Sue McKib-ben will be going and would love to have you join in this time for rest and re-newal with thousands of Lutheran women from across the country.

SHUTTERBUG WANTED!

Zion’s is in need of two or three

people with a digital camera who

are willing to take pictures of vari-

ous events at Zion’s. Please contact the church
