Facts About The Underground Railroad
-Slavery was abolished in 1833
-Southwestern Ontario was considered a safe place for the slaves
-Slaves were tortured because of their race
-Hon.Col.Willams was one of the slaveholders
WHY WAS IT CALLED "THE UNDERGROUND RAILROAD"?
IT WAS CALLED" THE UNDERGROUND RAILROAD" BECAUSE THE TRANSPORT WAS MUCH LIKE A RAILROAD.
Why Slaves Came to Canada?
-The slaves used the Underground Railroad to come to Canada because
it was a safe place to live
-The slaves came to Canada because they could escape from slavery and
live with Freedom
When did Slavery begin?
-Slavery in America is illegal now a days because we are forbidden to do
slavery in any country
-Slavery in America started when the first African American slaves were
brought to North America
-In 1830-1860 slavery was
occuring

-Harriet Tubman developed an Underground Railroad
-This woman allowed slaves to escape to Canada to get the freedom that they deserve
-After 19 trips she rescued 300 slaves

-When the slaves were escaping to the Underground Railroad, they had to go through
many things; ponds,lakes,and bushes
-It was such a hassle for them because slaveholders were trying to find them
and bring them back
-If they had babies,it was really hard for

-The slaves were whipped with whips and sticks
-They were tortured and treated unfairly
-The slaves were miserable and had no freedom
-There were many different types of jobs that the slaves did, some had to work on farms and some had to act
like butlers and obey all the commands and get all the things that the slave holders requested

In conclusion,we have found out that with all this information, the slaves have made a very big impact on
Canadians. For example, they have showed all the Canadian and American citizens that every
acomplishemet starts with the decision to try. We are greatful for the courage that HarrietTubman and the
other escaped slaves showed us because we all deserve freedom and
they had the strength to get it . THANK YOU!!!
