WHAT IS A TORNADO?

• A tornado is a violent, rapidly rotating air that has contact with the ground

WHAT CAUSES TORNADOS TO FORM AND HOW THEY ARE PREDICTED

• It forms in a thunderstorm• When hot air and cold air meet• Meteorologists only have a few

minutes to warn people that a tornado is coming

HOW TORNADOS ARE MEASURED AND WHAT SCALE YOU USE TO MEASURE A TORNADO?

• They are measured by how much damage they cause

• They are also measured by how fast the wind is

• The scale used to measure a tornado is the Fujita Scale

HOW MUCH TIME DOES IT TAKE TO PREPARE AND PRECAUTIONS/SAFETY STEPS

• You will only have a few minutes to prepare for a tornado

• Going to a room with no windows is a good way to stay safe during a tornado

• Going to a basement or a cellar is also a good place to go

• Cover your head with something like a blanket or a pillow or your hands

• Make sure to get low and curl up in a ball

• Flashlight• Radio• Batteries• Food • Drinks• Band aids • A book • A blanket and pillow
