HOA TO HOST HOUSE/YARD DECORATING CONTEST

Preserves at Jefferson and Fountainhead.

• Contest is limited to what can be seen from the street.

• People or live animals are not allowed as part of the display.

• Judging will take place between the dates of October 18 –22. Please have your decorations turned on by 6pm.

• Winners will be noti-fied on Monday, Octo-ber 23rd, 2017.

• The judge’s decisions are final.

Your HOA is sponsoring a Yard Deco-rating Con-test. Fall and

Halloween bring about ex-citement for both children and adults, and it is always fun to see homes and yards decorated in celebration of those holidays. Pumpkins, scarecrows, mummies, bats and ghosts can get our neigh-borhood even more excited about the holidays ahead.

There will be an independent judge (that does not reside in our neighborhood) that will drive through The Preserve/Fountainhead and look at all he decorations. The judge will choose the yard/house

with the best decorations based on creativity and the yards with the most “spirit” of the season. There are a lot of web sites that can offer crea-tive and inexpensive ideas to help you get started.

Gift cards or other prizes will be awarded for:

• Most original Halloween decorations

• Most original fall decora-tions

• Best Overall

CONTEST RULES:

• Contest is free to enter and is open to homes located in The

Chrisden P. Cain—275 Fountainhead Drive

REMINDER:

changes to your home or

IS YOUR HOME READY FOR THE CHANGE IN WEATHER?

(continued from pg. 1)

Windows and Doors:

Inspect and repair any loose or damaged window or door frames.

Install weather stripping or caulking around windows and doors to prevent drafts and to lower heating bills.

Heating Systems:

Replace the filter in your fur-nace.

Consider having a heating professional check your heat-ing system to ensure optimal performance and discover minor problems before they turn into costly major repairs.

Clean your ducts to better your heating system’s effi-ciency as well as to reduce household dust and to provide relief to those with respirato-ry problems.

Chimney and Fireplace:

Call a profes-sional in to inspect and clean your chimney. Fire-places that are regularly used during the sea-son should have an annual cleaning to prevent dan-gerous chim-ney fires.

Test your fire-

place flue for a tight seal when closed.

Attic Ventilation:

Be sure attic insulation doesn’t cover vents in the eaves.

Be sure ridge vents and vents at eaves are free of plants and debris.

Check bird and rodent screens for attic vents to pre-vent any unwanted guests.

Landscape & Yardwork:

Although grass appears to stop growing in the fall, the roots are actually growing deeper to prepare for winter. Now is the best time to ferti-lize and reseed your lawn.

Prune your trees and shrubs after the leaves turn to en-courage healthy growth.

Trim any tree limbs that are dangerously close to power lines or the roof of your house. Heavy snow and ice

can cause damage in the win-ter.

Water Heater:

Test the relief valve and drain your water heater to remove sediment. To do this, turn off power or gas and the inlet water valve for the water heater. Connect a host to the drain line with the other end of the host either in a floor drain or a low spot of your yard. Open the valve to let the tank drain. Once fully drained, close the drain valve and open the inlet water valve to refill the tank. Once re-filled, turn power or gas back on.

Check Plumbing:

Test all sinks, toilets and hose bibs for proper operation and validate there are no drips or leaks.

Pull your dryer away from the wall and disconnect the exhaust hose. Gently vacuum the entirety of the hose, the wall vent and the exhaust port on the dryer. Don’t forget to vacuum the lint screen and compartment as best you can.

If you have a crawl space, close the crawl space vents in late fall and open them in late spring.

Test all GFCI outlets and all breakers for proper oper-ation.

Refrigerator Condenser & Coiling Cleaning

Generally speaking, discon-nect power and remove toe space panel and rear panels. Using a crevice tool on your vacuum, gently vacuum the condenser, coil and fan.

Additional Things to Do:

Change the batteries in your smoke detectors or replace your smoke detectors if they are more than 10 years old.

Clean your dryer vent.
