Embedded within this Sunday’s Gospel about Bartimaeus, the blind man, is a story of bringing others to Christ, who are perhaps unable to do so on their own. Jesus knows of the blindness of Bartimaeus -

however still issues the command to "call him"... How would a blind man ever

make his way from the side of the road to Jesus' feet without the aid of friends to guide him, direct him - and encourage him. It's only after receiving this assistance from the local community ‘this earliest of Christian communities’ that Bartimaeus is able to stand before Jesus, and hear what Jesus is asking of him. The question "What do you want me to do for you?" is one Jesus desires to ask all of us. Jesus doesn't ask this question because he doesn’t know what Bartimaeus needs or wants... he asks the question to stir Bartimaeus’ heart to prayer. Jesus in one way is saying "Pray for what you want"... “Tell me what is troubling you most”. But first, Bartimaeus must throw aside the cloak that perhaps veiled his vision. Jesus wanted the hearts of not only Bartimaeus but of all the Jews who at that time were blind to who Jesus was - what He was there to do - and what He could do for them, if only they asked. As Jesus continues to make his way to Calvary, He will eventually answer this question for all of them and all of us, and for all mankind. As we make our way through life, perhaps one of the best things we can do, is hear this question for ourselves and make it heard by others who perhaps are too far away, too veiled by suffering, loneliness or so many of the pains that our generation suffers from that make us blind to what Jesus can

do, and has done for us.

Today - perhaps we can hear in a new way this call of Jesus, (Continued on page 4)

This feast honors all the saints, known and unknown. This feast was first celebrated on May 13, 610, when Pope Boniface IV proclaimed the day Feast of All Holy Martyrs in Rome. The intent was to honor all martyrs who were not included in local records. In 835, Pope Gregory IV changed the date and name to November 1 and Feast of All Saints. There are many saints who are not popularly known or who are not celebrated during the course of the liturgical year. This feast day provides an opportunity to remember and celebrate their lives

for ourselves and for everyone - and consider how we may help others, within our own Christian community, families and our lives to "take courage", "get up" and tell them that Jesus is calling.

Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament

Do not worry about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:6-7) Come to adoration to meditate, listen to and find peace, in the Lord. Let him into your heart. Starting in November, Fridays 12 - 4PM Signup at entrance to the Church. ~Meg O’Hara Prayer Families Needed

If you have 5 or 10 minutes a day to say a prayer for a newly baptized child and their family, we need you! This helps our new families to feel a part of our larger St. John’s family. We have two celebrations a year to welcome all newly baptized families to our family. So all you need to do is make a commitment for 6 months at a time. Please help by taking a picture - leave the babies name then your name and address on the slip provided. This will help families and Our family at St. John’s. ~Marion Parker

“What service can you do today?

We are in need of volunteers to help with the upkeep of God’s home here at St. John’s. Weekly cleaning of the Church (all set for now) The new hall when needed minor repairs around the property and now The Religious Education Building. ~Sue Ann

Facilities Electrician/plumber - Always in need, at some point, for licensed individual. If you have your own business, do general contracting, woodworking and would like us to consider hiring you when needed. ~Sue Ann The Rosary in October is celebrated as a month for the Blessed Mother, the Rosary, the Anniversary of the Miracle at Fatima and for the Gift of Human Life. Please join us during the month of October on Monday evenings at 6:30 p.m. for a meditative Rosary,

Adoration of The Blessed Sacrament and prayers. Please come pray for your own intentions and those of the world. Many parishioners have been or are going through their own sorrow. Come join others who are praying for all our intentions. Bring your joys and your sorrows to Jesus through Mary.

Please help your child learn these prayers.

Reconciliation and Mass It is important to get into the habit of bringing your child regularly to Mass and the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Families must attend Mass EVERY weekend and Holy Day of Obligation AS THIS IS OUR FAITH. This is most important to our relationship with Jesus. Just as we need food to nourish our bodies, we need the Eucharist, which is the True Presence of Jesus, to nourish our souls. The Eucharist is truly Jesus’ Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity. The Lord is waiting to pour forth his Grace upon us in the sacraments! Learning about the faith must be accompanied by the practice of the faith. I look forward to seeing you at Mass!

This past weekend’s offertory was: $4,450.00.

The 2nd collection for utilities was: $1,275.00 There is no 2nd collection this weekend. Next weekend’s 2nd collection is for our mortgage. The Inspiring Hope Capital Campaign now has an online giving portal officially up and running! If you would like to donate to this Inspiring Hope Campaign, please go to: InspiringHopeCampaign.org. Make sure that you indicate St. John’s in Townsend as your parish, so that we will be the recipients of your donation. If you have received a Remittance Statement in the mail, you can easily make your payment through this website, rather than writing out a check and mailing it in. The website is listed on your Remittance Statement. From this campaign, we have already received our parking lot and just the other day had $15,767.04 deposited into our Capital Campaign account. The $15,767.04 is our portion of the money (75%) that has actually been received from our parishioners. This does not include commitments that have been pledged but not received. In other news, we have all sorts of fun things going on here. Our boiler in the new hall needs to be cleaned, and while taking a look at it, it was noted that it does not pass the new codes, so we need to get 3 different companies out to take care of all of these fixes. Our emergency lights in many of our buildings have started to burn out, so thanks to Pat Balcher, we are in the process of fixing these throughout our many buildings. Our phone system has a slight glitch in it…. we are working on fixing that, and we’re still looking for an electrician who can help us out with a few items… please call if you are a licensed electrician…I’d love to talk!
