TčĊ WĊĘđĊĞ HĊėĆđĉ DĊĈĊĒćĊė 4, 2013 C hristmas is coming, and that means that Christmas music will soon be here. I thought I would share with all of you some of the musical happenings that I am involved with in the greater Worcester area. I could write an entire Herald on the happenings in the city, but for ease and brevity, I’ll just focus on the ones that I am involved in. Annual Holiday Concert, Mechanics Hall (321 Main St., Worcester): Wednesday, December 11, 12 noon. Free Boar’s Head Festival, Wesley Church: Saturday, December 14, 4:00 pm. $25 adult; $20 senior/ student. Children under 17 are $10 at door. Assabet Valley Mastersingers Messiah Sing: Sunday, December 15, 3:30 pm. St. Matthias Parish, 409 Hemenway St., Marlborough. Suggestion donation: $10. Lessons & Carols, Wesley United Methodist Church, Sunday, December 22, during 10:30 am service Ghanaian Choir Concert at the Worcester Art Museum: Sunday, December 22, 1:30 pm. 55 Salisbury St., Worcester. Free. If you haven’t quite felt the Christmas spirit yet, the annual holiday concert at Mechanics Hall will do the trick! Many area groups come together – choir, bell ringers, soloists, instrumentalists, and readers – to present an hour of Christmas fun. There will be plenty of opportunities to sing along, so pack a lunch (or buy one there) and join us there! There’s nowhere else in town where you are likely to see so many period costumes as in the Master Singers’ epic production, the Boar’s Head Festival. You really don’t want to miss seeing our Gothic sanctuary transformed into a medieval gathering place. There will be choir groups, bell ringers, youth choirs, and dancers. Worcester is blessed to have a number of high quality choral groups. The Assabet Valley Master‐ singers always put on a Messiah sing. Scores will be available for the singing of part 1 and a few extra favorites from later parts. (You can’t have a Messiah sing without the Hallelujah Chorus, can you?) Even if you are too pressed for time to take any of these extra‐curricular events, mark your calendars for December 22. During the 10:30 am service we will have a Lessons & Carols. The choirs will be singing some favorite anthems with guest soloists, and there will be no shortage of carols for the congregation to sing. As if one big event wasn’t enough, the Ghanaian Choir will be racing over to the Worcester Art Museum after the Lessons & Carols. They have been invited to perform an hour‐long concert in the main hall. It’s a beautiful space, so if you haven’t had your ϐill of music, be sure to swing by the museum to show your support for the Ghanaian Choir. That’s a lot! I hope to see you at some – if not all! – of these events. Wishing you the best this Advent, Brett Maguire, Director of Music

CHRISTMAS WREATHS FOR DEDICATION… Once again this year, we have 3 wreaths on the outside doors (on Main Street and State Street) that are available for dedication. The cost of each wreath is $28. MISSION TREES AT WESLEY

Once again in 2013 the mission tree tradition continues Wesley Church. You are invited to participate in decorating these trees while helping others during the Christmas season.

THE “MITTEN” TREE in Brewer Hall - Please help decorate this tree with warm hats, gloves, scarves and/or mittens. These practical ornaments bring happiness to those who enjoy seeing their variety and color and the needy Carty Cupboard clients who will receive and enjoy their warmth.

THE “MEMBER” TREE in East Hall - It is our hope that all families in Wesley Church will have a symbol - some ornament of their choice - among the decorations on this tree. If your family is not represented, please bring one and add it to our interesting a varied collection. (There are hangers under the tree.) All ornaments are carefully packed and stored so that they may be displayed annually.

THE SLENDER “RED BIRD” TREE in Brewer Hall on the stage - Please don’t toss out those labels from Campbell and Betty Crocker products. Instead, bring them in and place them in the basket near the slender “Red Bird” Tree. They will be sent to the Red Bird Mission in West Virginia where they will be collected and exchanged for needed items.

Have A Wonderful Holiday Season!

UPCOMING ADVENT EVENTS & SERVICES BROCHURES are available in the Welcome Office or you can print it off the website. If you do not have internet access and can not get out of the house, please contact the church and we can mail you one. Otherwise, you may pick a brochure up when you are at church next. Thank you, Debi
