RECTOR’S MESSAGE TO THE NEW STUDENTS

Assalamualaikum wrt. wbt.

It is a great pleasure for me to welcome you as the new students of the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM).

The Ta’aruf Week organised by the Student Affairs & Development Division (STADD) is an important orientation

week that introduces new students to the administration and management of the university. This programme will

help you to familiarise yourselves with the academic matters, rules and regulations as well as social activities of

various students’ societies, clubs and associations of IIUM.

Hence, I urge all of you to make full use of this great opportunity by participating in all the activities scheduled

during this orientation programme. Let us all contribute to the spirit of our “Garden of Knowledge and Virtue” by

following the university’s Vision and Mission as well as its rules and regulations.

I would like to extend special thanks to the organising committee consisting of staff and students from the various

divisions, centres, kulliyyahs and the library for their valuable contribution and cooperation in making this Ta’aruf

Week a success.

May Allah s.w.t guide and reward all of us in our endeavours to make IIUM a leading centre of learning, teaching

DEPUTY RECTOR (STUDENT DEVELOPMENT AND COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT)

Assalamualaikum wrt. wbt.

I have the pleasure to warmly welcome all new students to the International Islamic University Malaysia, the Garden

of Knowledge and Virtue. I believe this would be your first step towards achieving many other great achievements

in your career path as students of a higher learning institution. The learning process is always both rewarding and

fulfilling.

On this occasion, I would like to take this opportunity to share the University’s vision and mission with you, as you

are now an integral element of this University. The IIUM aims at revitalizing the leading role of the Muslim Ummah

in the world. This requires a new generation of Muslims who are fully equipped with all the necessary skills to

achieve success, education and life-long training is the critical factor here.

In this University, education, both formal and informal, aims at producing students ingrained with the quality of

Comprehensive Excellence, the attributes of Integration, Islamisation and Internationalisation (IIICE). IIUM also in

line with the aspiration of Falsafah Pendidikan Kebangsaan in producing Holistic, Entrepreneurial and Balanced

Graduates with balanced emotional quality, intellectual quality, spiritual quality and physical quality.

I hope that you will give your best efforts not only to appreciate but also, most importantly, to uphold the vision

and mission of IIUM. The whole community of the University is centered upon this vision and mission.

Comprehensive excellence requires a sincere appreciation of this culture and subsequently to be practically

manifested in one’s day-to-day affairs. Any given society blessed with this culture has the necessary ingredients to

lead the world and champion any global agenda. At this point of taking the first step toward greater success. I

believe, Success = Ability + Efforts + Attitude+ Culture. I hope that all of you will appreciate and give your thanks

for the contributions of your parents, teachers, society and the government, for through them you are now able to

grab this golden opportunity becoming a university student.

Thus, prepare yourselves to venture into many unexpected and enriching experiences in the environment of your

campus life. We pray for your success and hope to see you in your convocation day and we thank the ta’aruf

Ahlan Wa Sahlan! Welcome! Selamat Datang!

I wish to take this opportunity on this wonderful occasion to extend my most sincere salam to all new

students of IIUM. By the grace of Allah s.w.t., I am honoured and privileged to share this memorable

occasion with all of you in the IIUM Gombak Campus, the Garden of Knowledge and Virtue.

The University‘s mission is to achieve Comprehensive Excellence in all aspects of education, through

the process of Integration, Islamisation and Internationalisation (IIICE @ Triple ICE). Certainly, this

involves the academic and non-academic programmes offered in IIUM. For this purpose, STADD has

been entrusted to shoulder the responsibility together with other Kulliyyahs and Centers to provide you

with co-curriculur activities be it credited or non-credited programmes.

Today and the years to come will be one of your most memorable moments in life. We will assure that

each and every one of you will feel more at home with the best surroundings to study and to develop

your knowledge, skills and interests.

IIUM LOGO The logo represents the aspirations, ideals and objectives of the International Islamic University Malaysia. It is made up of four main parts: i. The symbol of Al-Qur’an ii. The symbol of Ka‘abah iii. The eight domes pointing in eight directions iv. The eight outer domes The symbol of Al-Qur’an This represents the highest source of knowledge, namely the revelation (wahyu) of Allah s.w.t. which guides and inspires the pursuit of knowledge in the universe. The central position of the symbol implies that the University upholds the supremacy of Allah’s knowledge, wisdom and words above all human knowledge. The symbol of Ka’abah The symbol represents: a) The unity of knowledge and the unity of mankind which Islam

propagates. b) The principle of tawhid (The Oneness of God) as the foundation of

Muslim personality, culture and society that the University strives to promote through the dissemination of tawhid-based disciplines and

c) The concept of ‘ibadah (service and worship of Allah s.w.t) as the

fundamental rationale of human existence and all pursuits of knowledge in conformity with Allah’s guidance and shari’ah.

The Eight Domes Pointing in Eight Directions They represent the different branches of human knowledge and academic disciplines in the University which spring from the same source of tawhid and the basis of revelation. In term of specialisation, they point in different directions but the various academic principles are in fact united by the principles of ‘ibadah and subservience to the ‘aqidah (belief), shari’ah (laws) and akhlaq (ethics in Islam). These common principles are represented by the colour of gold sprouting from the square of Ka’abah.

The Eight Outer Domes The domes represent the various Islamic development efforts by man based on the knowledge and disciplines, which are grounded in the common foundation of tawhid. The development of social life, culture and civilization must therefore be inspired by divine guidance and true knowledge.

OBJECTIVES OF TA’ARUF PROGRAMME

• To familiarize IIUM students with the mission, vision and

aspirations of the University

• To provide information on rules and regulations / procedures of

relevant departments / division in the IIUM

• To inculcate the Islamic values and practice amongst students

• To provide the opportunity for new students to know the Malaysian

and other cultures derived from the students of

IIUM

• To familiarize students with the physical environment and the

facilities available in the campus

• To assist the students to assimilate comfortably in to the IIUM

fraternity and sorority
