Consider this one time you can be noisy in the library. Two to four year olds gather together for Parachute Play at the PinelandsLibrary for a half hour of playing parachute games, singing songs and of course a bubble dance party. Danielle Haubrich, the youthservice librarian said the program became so popular, that she is now offering two sessions.

The average homeowner inTabernacle may have to dig a lit-tle deeper in their pocket in 2014,as the introduced municipalbudget includes a tax increase ofapproximately $59, according tomunicipal accountant Kevin Fre-nia.

The townships recent re-assessment is partially responsi-ble for the proposed tax increase.

On average, the value of thetown went down, tax assessorJay Renwick said at the town-ships workshop meeting onMarch 10. The average residence

saw a decrease in value of 10.84percent. The tax rate has to go upif the assessed value of the town-ship goes down.

The average assessed value forhomes in the township droppedfrom $296,220 to $264,109.

departments would potentiallysee increases or decreases.

Engineering services and pub-lic works will both see increasesin 2014. Cramer said the townshipreceived two recreation grants in2013, as well as a community de-

velopment block grant. We have projects that have

carried over from last year thatwill be completed this year. Thesnack stand at Patty BowkerPark, the Tuckerton Road proj-ect, Cramer said. The grants docover some of the cost, but thetownship is still responsible forthe survey and architecturework.

Tabernacle and ShamongTownship have a joint serviceagreement for the repaving of

Tuckerton Road and are awaitingword on the status of a state De-partment of Transportationgrant to finish the project.

Mother Nature is most respon-sible for the expected bump in thepublic works departments budg-et.

Public works will see an in-crease to cover salt purchasesthat are more than $30,000 alreadythis year and repairs are $10,000more than we expected. We are

cutting the road striping programand solid waste collection to keepcosts down as best as we can,Cramer said.

Discussions over the townshipentering into a shared services

agreement with SouthamptonTownship for municipal courtservices will continue throughout2014, but as of now, that is notpart of the proposed budget.

Once the budget is introduced, the committee must wait 28 daysbefore holding a public hearing. The budget will be presented to

the public at next months regularmeeting, which is scheduled forMonday, April 28. The committeecan elect to amend the budget ifthe public raises concerns, anddepending on the changes, it canstill be adopted at that meeting ortabled if large changes need to bemade.

    hursday. It cant come soon

    enough. Officially, thats the

    start of spring. Whether Moth-

er Nature agrees, though, is anyones

guess at this point. Early forecasts

show that she will be good to us, but

how much can we actually rely on

forecasts?Spring is what we all need. We need

a nice stroll downtown, in the park or

on the beach to reinvigorate us, to get

us out of the doldrum into which win-

ter plunged us. Winter this year has

not just affected all of our moods, it

has affected our bottom lines, too.

Well all most likely be paying more

in taxes, in some way, at some level, for

    the extensive snow removal, pothole

    repairs and salt purchases.

Snow has affected local businessesas well, especially retail shops. Bad

weather kept patrons inside from what

seemed like October through now. The

arrival of spring will hopefully turn

    that around, and quickly.

    Snow kept our schoolchildren at

home which, at the time, they loved

but it will also keep them in school

much longer into the summer. Whoknows how that will affect summer

travel plans? It looks like June 2014

might be scratched off from summer

    altogether.

Snow and biting cold has kept peo-

ple in the mindset of no end in sight,

and has prevented many from taking

day trips to our states wonderful good-

weather spots, or from planning future

trips, as well.In a little more than 60 days, the offi-

cial start of the summer beach season

will be here. Does that even sound

    right?

    New Jersey relies heavily on

tourism, especially at the Shore dur-

ing the summer. Last summer was

hurt by the aftermath of Hurricane

Sandy. Will this summer be hurt by

    more bad weather?

    Lets hope not.

    in our opinion

Hello, spring, are you here yet?Our moods, our businesses, our livelihoods depend on your arrival

    Your thoughts

What are you most looking forward to thisspring? While you are out and aboutenjoying what hopefully will be beautifulweather, send us the photos you takealong the way, and well be happy to sharethem with the rest of the town.
