 Addiction: The character has a strong addiction he must keep eeding. Whether it’s a physical addictionto stims, dust, or alcohol, or a mental addiction such as gambling, law-breaking, or priceless antiques, thecharacter devotes a lot o time, energy, and resources to pursuing or obtaining the object o his addiction.Avoiding this Obligation has an almost immediate result—withdrawal. The exact nature depends on theaddiction, but the character nds it increasingly dicult to concentrate on even mundane tasks, otenrefected in the GM adding anywhere rom∫ to∫ ∫ ∫ in skill checks.

Betrayal: This Obligation can work in one o two ways: either the character is the target o a deep andpersonal betrayal, or the character is the one who betrayed others. Whether it’s as simple as a betrayedcondence or broken promise or as serious as treason or mutiny, the betrayal eats away at the characterand aects his everyday lie. The target o the betrayal may seek answers, compensation, or simply revenge.

Blackmail: Someone has discovered one o the PC’s dirty secrets and is using that knowledge or some sorto gain. To make matters worse, the blackmailer possesses evidence that could possibly leak out—a holovid,bank records, a weapon used during a crime, and so on. In order to keep the secret sae, the character mustdo what he is told, although the blackmailer is savvy enough to keep the demand simple, easy, or cheapenough to maintain the blackmail or as long as possible, generally money or avors.

Bounty: For some reason, the character has a price on his head. This may be in the orm o a legalwarrant or a contract by criminals, collection agencies, or even someone who elt his honor violated insome way. What he did to earn this mark is up to his background, and the severity o his actions can bebased on the size o his Obligation.

33-40Criminal: The character has a criminal record, or was accused o a crime (perhaps one he didn’t evencommit), and is somehow embroiled in the legal system. Obligation may be settled by paying ongoing legalcosts, making attempts to bury evidence, or eorts to prove his innocence.

41-48

Debt: The character owes someone a great deal, whether that debt consists o money or something else.Perhaps the PC has a huge gambling debt to a Hutt, is indebted to the Czerka Corporation or his starship,owes a wealthy amily or patronage, or has some other serious nancial obligation. To make matters worse,depending on who owns the debt, even ully paying it o might not get the character completely o thehook—i the character can get that money, he can surely get more.

49-56

Dutybound: The PC has a deep sense o duty that he eels compelled to ulll, such as military service,making good on a contract, or ollowing some sort o thieves’ code. Unlike the Oath Obligation (see below),a Dutybound character has some legal or ritualistic bind to an organization or cause making it extremelydicult or detrimental i he ails to live up to that commitment.

57-64Family: The character has deep ties with his amily that require a great deal o time and attention. Thiscould include the care and assistance o siblings or parents, the management o an inheritance, trust, or

amily business, or simply mediating between squabbling amily members.

65-72Favor: The PC owes a big avor. Perhaps ocials looked the other way when he smuggled in goods, or ariend got him out o prison. Regardless, the avors are stacking up, and soon he’s going to be asked to paythem back or return the avor. This avor may be called in a little at a time, prolonging the Obligation.

73-80

Oath: The character has sworn some sort o oath that dictates his thoughts and actions, shaping hismoral view o the world. This could be an oath to a deity, a way o living (such as the Jedi Code), or awillingness to sacrice or the betterment o some group or cause. Whatever the case, the Oath should beboth serious and make lie dicult in some ways or the character. It is a personal and deep undertaking,possibly without a truly obtainable end goal in sight. Characters who do not live up to this oath ace aninternal and moral struggle.

81-88

Obsession: The PC has some unhealthy obsession that tends to interere in his lie, whether with a celebrity,a region, a political movement, a cultural icon, or some other acet o society or lie. He must pursue this,possibly to the detriment o his health, nances, or well being. A character with this Obligation tends to getalong well with others that share his interest, but is looked at with pity, amusement, or even a bit o ear

rom others that don’t understand.

89-96

Responsibility: A character with the Responsibility Obligation eels a strong sense o accountability orrelationship to a person, place, or thing (a responsibility to kin alls under the Family Obligation describedabove). This could include a strong connection to a mentor, a strong desire to care or orphans in a givenlocation, or taking on the needs o an under-represented minority.

97-00Roll twice on this chart. Starting Obligation is split into two dierent origins (this does not increase theObligation’s magnitude; divide the starting Obligation into two equal parts, each with a dierent type).
