n November 8th, 2015 WOM ME and MTC unveiled the recent expansion of the Manufacturing/ Fabrication facility and Sudhir Puranik Training Center of Excellence in an elegant inauguration ceremony with 250 guests including WOMME/ MTC clients, HOD’s from WOM branches and the staff.

The celebrations began with the performance of Ayala dancers, a traditional Arabic dance welcoming guests accompanied with cocktail drinks at the pre function area followed by the inauguration of the Training Center which consisted of the traditional ribbon cutting and lamp lighting ceremony by the Puranik family. A Foundation Plaque for training center was then revealed by Mr. Sudhir Puranik.

Congratulations WOM Service Team!

A

ll hats off to the WOM Houston Service team who received special recognition from Maersk for their contribution towards completing the re-certification of the Maersk Rig- The Deliverer. In a widely publicized press-release, according to Maersk, the yard stay had over 210 job packages and 584 work orders to complete within 35 days, which our team played an essential part to help meet.

Evidence that working as a team is always the best way, the service team: Ryan Kinnear, Israel Chavez, Yoshi Umanzor, and Max McGee worked together on the rig to complete the job. Ryan Kinnear and Israel Chavez supervised the WOM team on board the rig. Yoshi Umanzor, stayed on the rig until the final closeout of the job and worked under extreme pressure to meet the deadline and Max McGee with only 7 months on the job, executed all tasks given to him with professionalism and efficiency. A job well done by the team for demonstrating a service standard which WOM clients can expect from the company.

During a yard stay, every minute counts and the service team could not have completed their tasks without the support of the offshore team: Jennifer Umanzor, Monica Vickous, Monte Lowry and Aaron Bishop. Monte Lowry effectively managed manpower planning, equipment/tool preparation, parts logistic and shipping and served as the point of contact for the WOM team aboard the rig. Jennifer Umanzor made sure all new valves and equipment shipped on time by expediting equipment with manufacturing.

Monica Vickous administered the commercial side, processing billing and invoicing in a timely manner. Last but not least, Aaron Bishop, sales manager for Maersk, worked closely with Maersk to keep the project running smoothly.

As stated on an email from Derek Dargie, Maersk’s Senior Well Control Equip. Superintendent,

“thanks to all the team involved on the Deliverer project for all their effort in completing the manifolds on the rig. Working in a challenging environment, with so many other tasks going on in close proximity the guys worked in a safe and efficient manner.

The guys interacted well with other project 3rd party and the core rig crew, and participated well in the rig safety card system.

I have enjoyed working with the team over the last 2 shipyards, and look forward to working with you guys again in the future.”

Appreciative of the team’s hard work, Maersk has named WOM as the 20K valve supplier for the new 20K Drillship Project.

n an effort to continuously maximize operational efficiency and reduce waste, WOM India has installed a

new Trepanning Tool machine. The machine will facilitate the process of producing a cylinder from a block

of metal. Since, trepanning tools remove a solid core of material by cutting around it rather than cutting out

the entire area to be drilled there are less shavings. Thus, allowing the machinist to continually work and oversee

the drilling instead of having to remove and reinsert the drill. This machine also has a faster cutting rate due

to less amount of metal being cut; requires less power for the same size of hole to be cut and the cylinder removed

can be reused for other products, resulting as a big advantage when cutting expensive alloys.

WOM’s Ball Valve Group has been very fortunate in 2015 by being awarded several multimillion dollar projects. These were all a result of years of hard work by the ball valve group to build customer confidence in WOM products. Our customers can have confidence in knowing that our valve works like we say it will and lasts longer than other valves on the market.

As with any company, there are gains and losses in business as fortunes change. Although, we lost some good colleagues, we gained a new ball valve engineer. Rahul Mandare joined WOM in June and works out of the Pune facility. He earned his Mechanical Engineering Degree and Post Grad Diploma in Operations Mgmt. in 2002 and has been working in the oil and gas industry since then. Since being on board with WOM, Rahul’s knowledge and experience has already helped solve some reoccurring problems in the assembly of the patented Model 40 Ball Valve.

With the determination to fill orders for new projects, the ball valve team designed and built several new large bore valves such as the 16”, 24” and 30”- 900 Class valves designed by Nitin Jawaliker, in WOM Pune. Ramakrishna Dulaboji, also in Pune, was responsible for having these valves built and shipped; a challenging task, considering the 30” 900# valve weighs 10,714kg (over 11 tons) and is 74 inches long. These new valves were sold in the U.S. market, some of which will be going to a new pipeline project in Pennsylvania. Other valves such as the 30 inch and 24 inch, will be shipped to Minnesota for a new crude oil terminal expansion.

Another project that was awarded to WOM’s Ball Valve group included more than one hundred 16” ball valves along with other sizes, for a new crude oil terminal in Corpus Christi, TX. This terminal is the size of several football fields and WOM’s ball valves are the dominant brand.

Keeping all these orders straight is the job of Mary Stec in the Houston office. She is responsible for quoting, gets pricing for buy-outs, advises the customer on delivery status and creates the shipping and invoicing documents for all orders.

Miguel Gomez, a shop technician in Houston, single-handedly coordinates the re-trimming of valves with new components, re-tests and packing of shipments. Miguel also manages the inventory and keeps the shop in orderly fashion. Miguel is the last link before the customer gets the valve.

One of the biggest changes for our department was the relocation of Neelesh Musale to Houston from Pune. He has taken on new responsibilities other than working with the Ball Valve group but has stayed involved to help us make deliveries.

Other product milestones that were completed this year:

• Successful fire testing of the 2” 150 Class and 6” 150 Class valves. The 16” 150 Class will soon be fire tested too.

• We made a modification to the optional 3rd Seal, which is one of the featured benefits of our Dual-Seal Ball Valve. The modification is currently in the patenting process. • WOM’s agent in Canada, John Van Vliet, is in the final stages of getting two WOM Model 40 Dual-Seal valves installed in a pig launcher for Conoco Phillips (CP). This will be a trial for CP but we are confident our valves will perform better than other competitor valves.

As with any project, the team faces a number of challenges trying to meet customer expectations. Nonetheless, we are confident the Ball Valve team will be able to troubleshoot through each issue and execute each project with the determination they’ve had thus far.

Ending the tour, guests entered the MTC shop floor to begin the night’s main event, entertainment followed by the gala dinner. The function started with a speech from CEO and the GM’s of both companies and towards the end of the speech Mr. Puranik was presented with a miniature scale model of the WOM ME facility. Guests were entertained by performances from a Vatche Tito Arabic band and outstanding performance by Acrobats using the shop’s overhead cranes. Nonetheless, the special treat of the night were the Indian classical dance performances from youngsters Niranjana Mahesh, 8 years old and Varsha Govindaraj, 13 years old.

Since WOM ME’s establishment in 1999 and MTC’s in 2010, both have worked to steadily grow the market in the Middle Eastern and North African regions with their hard work quickly paying off. WOM ME and MTC are proud to increase their contribution to the strength of WOM Group’s manufacturing.
