Striking Double in Myanmar

Owing to the success of the fi rst WOM SP-II Compact Wellhead installed in the

Myanmar M3 exploration offshore block in early April, WOM has again successfully

installed and completed the fi rst well out of 42 wells for the PTTEP M9 development

campaign which includes a project scope of 42 sets of Wellheads, X-MAS Trees, and

related fi eld service installation. WOM is working hard towards completing this project

and is optimistic about the prospect of more projects in the future.

Comment from Lincoln Ong at WOM SEA, “I would like to thank the WOM SEA team and also very importantly, WOM India team, for working together to reach this milestone. We still have a long way to go for delivery but I am sure we can make it together as a team. “ cont’d on pg 9

Drilling rigs are generally used for well completion, maintenance and intervention. Yet, rig accessibility and budgets can create challenges in executing timely maintenance or repairs, leading to a delay in production and additional costs.

Magnum Subsea Systems (a WOM Group of Companies) saw this challenge as an opportunity to offer a faster and more cost-effective well intervention system for vessels such as Havila Harmony and Modec Venture 11 both located off the

north-west coast of Australia.

MSS together with Helix Energy Solutions developed a unique lightweight well intervention (LWI) system that is easy to handle and operate on LWI supported

vessels while offering deeper water capability at less than half

the day rate cost of operations. The LWI systems installed on both vessels offer the capability to use wire or electrical cable to lower tools into the well for a variety of tasks, including the setting of mechanical barriers and for reservoir monitoring. Wireline tools offer the ability to measure pressure, temperature, oil/water/gas content and general reservoir quality. Therefore, utilizing the LWI vessel-approach has become an effective alternative to intervene and repair subsea wells as compared to conventional drilling rigs. CEO at Santos, David Knox, commented on the coordination of MSS to manufacture and deliver and Helix to successfully operate the LWI vessel-approach saying, “ it added signifi cantly to our oil production and is the fi fth development project Santos has delivered on budget and schedule in the past two years”.

It was confi rmed in January, a feature in our new design for the Dual-Seal Ball valve, which we refer to as the Model 40 was patented. The feature that was patented is the “split-block” concept which allows the stem to be retained in the valve without relying on any bolting. This feature gives our valve the distinction of having a true blow-out proof stem. In addition to the confi rmation that the split-block being patented, it is also protected by trade mark.

Furthermore in February, Dow Chemical sent an audit team to WOM in Pune to review the capabilities of WOM in manufacturing the new Model 40 Dual-Seal ball valve. Neelesh Musale, Management Executive for Magna Casting, had the Pune location well prepared for the audit. The Dow audit team was very impressed with the facility. Dow has a huge project on the Texas Gulf Coast referred to as the Gulfstream project and they wanted to put WOM on their Approved Manufactures List for this project. In July, WOM was awarded the fi rst of potentially many ball valve orders from Dow for the Gulfstream project. The success of getting on Dow’s approved list was due to the hard work of Nitin Jawalikar in WOM’s Engineering Dept., the Houston inside sales team, and our Engineering Consultant, Bob Maki. Dow has years of experience with the Dual-Seal and recognized the benefi ts that the new Model 40 Dual-Seal design offered them with improved service life.

What is more, we fi nished a large job for (143) ball valves and actuators, sold to Oster Petro Chemical, that are currently in transit to Turkmenistan. These valves are for a multi-million dollar project being constructed in Turkmenistan, which is in the middle-east region served by WOM-ME.

Furthermore, with all the new drilling for shale gas and crude oil in the U.S., there has been a huge demand for pipeline valves to get the gas and oil to market. As a result, WOM is providing valves to Koch Pipeline in South Texas for the Eagle Ford Shale play. They will need 300 valves in the near future for new construction and connections to existing pipelines. Koch, another great WOM customer, recognizes the benefi ts of our Dual-Seal valve design. Koch has many other projects in the works in the northern U.S. and we will be their preferred supplier.

In March, Kristi Warren joined the Houston Ball Valve team as an Inside Sales and Quotations Coordinator. She is being trained by Mary Stec, who previously was the sole person in the department responsible for preparing quotations, dealing with actuator vendors, and entering orders. The ball valve product line can be very intimidating; for example, there 17 standard bore sizes, nine different pressure ranges, and dozens of materials that the valves are made from. Moreover, many customers have specifi c requirements that must be accounted for when preparing a quotation. Learning and teaching all this can be a daunting task and Mary Stec will be “celebrating” nine years of employment with WOM in July. We welcome Kristi on board and give a heartfelt thank you to Mary for her excellent work all these years.
