(Numerical Roster, Roster Breakdown, Pronunciation Guide)
Eddie Dwyer's articles help to do justice to the 2009 season. It tells the story of more than just the game. It tells the story of the team - its growth,
its failures, and its many successes. It is truly remarkable to have a professional writer in our athletic department, and his passion for reporting
about our athletes is unparalleled. Tim Hudak's Wildcats! books provided a historical reference point for this guide. His work is used throughout
this book, and it helps to paint a picture of this program’s long term and short term success. Ken Gillissie's photography, featured prominently in
this guide, is absolutely incredible - his pictures are truly worth 1,000 words. The coaching staff has continued to provide information about
themselves and the players that makes this guide as in depth as it is. The athletic department - Rory Fitzpatrick, Jennifer Fight, and Sean O'Toole -
has continued to allow me work on these guides, and their help has allowed me to continue to print these guides for your use.
Lewis Backus helped to pull everything together with me as we neared our printing date, his hours of work certainly don't go unnoticed.

Without a doubt, the work I did here wasn't possible without SSID moderator Jeff McCormick. His tireless efforts to help the broadcasting and
Sports Information groups at Saint Ignatius deserves great praise. He has been with me in every step of this process, helping to make this guide
what it is, and he has continued to mold me as a broadcaster.
This guide was the meant for use by media who follow the Saint Ignatius Wildcat Football program. We certainly appreciate your continued work to
report about the successes of our athletics program. I hope that this guide helps to make following Saint Ignatius football a more enjoyable
experience for you and for your audience. On another note, this guide was made with the help of numerous people. Chief among those who made
this guide what it is would be Ed Daugherty. Ed is a formatting wizard, I learned many tricks of this trade from him. Without his help, this would be
a much different guide. His stats and information are also a major reason this guide is as complete as it is. He was a phenomenal help in putting
this guide together, and his work in creating game notes and his meticulous preparation for broadcasts is something that I have certainly taken note
of over the past few months.
For those not listed here, my appologies (there is only so much room!)

Last but not least, I must thank my family. I spent hundreds of hours working on this guide. I loved this work. Watching how my parents dive into
work gave me the work ethic to start this undertaking, but more importantly, to finish it. They gave me the time, the resources, and the ethic to
make this guide.

About Saint Ignatius: Opened in 1886, Saint Ignatius High School was built by German Jesuits from upstate New York. Over the nearly
125 years since the school was established, numerous additions have been made to the campus. Most recently, the Breen Center for the
Performing Arts was opened in time for the 2009-2010 school year. The Rade Dining Hall was built in 2007 and serves hundreds of
students each day. The school's main building is a Cleveland Landmark, and the school's Sullivan Gymnasium remains one of the better
places to watch a basketball game in the area. St. Mary of the Assumption Chapel was built in 1998. In 2001 the O'Donnell Athletics
Complex was built, which includes the track and Wasmer Field, home of Saint Ignatius soccer, lacrosse, and JV/Freshman Football.
In 2008-2009, Saint Ignatius was named a "Blue Ribbon School of Excellence" by the United States Department of
Education. Saint Ignatius had also won the award in 1984-1985. By receiving the award in 2009, Saint Ignatius was
the only Catholic high school and one of only two private high schools in the country to be honored. Only 314 schools
were given the distinction of being a "Blue Ribbon School" in 2008-2009, with just 19 of those schools in the state of
Ohio. Among those honored in Ohio, only six are from Northeast Ohio. The blue ribbon award is judged by a series
of national standardized tests (PSAT, SAT, ACT) and the Ohio Graduating Test (OGT).
Saint Ignatius "Men for Others": Saint Ignatius is a Catholic school in the Jesuit tradition. As such, the school
challenges its students to become involved in service activities in the school community. Saint Ignatius' largest
student organization (composed of only juniors and seniors) is the St. Joseph of Arimathea Pallbearer Society (an
organization that provides pallbearers to those without family or friends to carry them to their final resting place.) The
Labre Ministry sends students out to give food to the homeless, but also to spend time with the homeless in our
community. Saint Ignatius was the first sanction a Sophomore Service program incorporated into the school
curriculum. And the Arrupe house is open almost every day of the week with programs like the Homework Club,
where Saint Ignatius students spend two hours with Ohio City children after school. These are only some of the
dozens of service opportunities at Saint Ignatius.
Fine Arts: Last year was a breakout year for the fine arts program. With the new Breen Center for the Performing Arts built across the
street from the school, the Spring and Fall plays drew huge crowds to Lorain and West 30th Street. The Marching Band received their
first ever one in the state competition, and won the St. Patrick's Day Parade competition. The Cat-o-Tonics continued to place highly in
competition, and the Freshman Chorus received a one at their state competition.

The Saint Ignatius Sports Information Department is a group of students that keep fans and the media
informed. The SSID program allows students to create material for the Saint Ignatius Athletic Website,
report on games, work with media both on game day and for off the field requests, and create media
guides for media and fan use. The SID began making media guides in 2009, with the NHSSPA
awarding a Gold Medal to the Saint Ignatius 2009 Football Media Guide. In the last two years, the
program has continued to bring all the most important information to those following the Wildcats.
