Project Pitches

Amen Ahmed:

Social networking has become a large part of our everyday lives. We use it to

communicate with friends and family in real time and share pictures, videos, and links that we

like. Why not exploit the benefits of social networking to improve our lives and grow in our

fields of study and expertise?

With the Major Network App, we can do just that. The primary function of this app is to

group together students with like majors and fields of study, and link them to employers and

experts in their industry. For students, it would grant them the benefit of meeting others who

can appreciate their field, to compare notes and to learn from one another, as well as to meet

potential employers and keep up to date with certifications and how the industry is growing

and changing. This app is aimed at expanding one’s knowledge in their field and giving them a

taste of what they can expect to be doing in the future. Major Network would give anyone the

opportunity to meet people who are already doing what they want to be doing in a few years.

Ali Burmester:

Group projects and events can take a lot of effort and time to coordinate. With

everyone balancing multiple projects for different classes or their part-time jobs, these projects

can sometimes cause extra stress. Not only do you have to worry about your responsibilities in

the group but you also have to worry about the other people working on the project with you-

have they completed their tasks? Who is going to submit the final draft? Has someone saved

the most updated presentation to bring to class?

There are plenty of to-do list types of apps available for smart phones and laptops but

what about an application that lets you create a to-do type of list for project management in a

group. It could allow you to add tasks to the list and assign a particular group member that task

or add it to the list for someone to check off after completing. This could allow you to see who

has finished what (and when) and who has taken responsibility for the tasks that had not been

assigned to a particular person. This could make communication in a group much more

effective and efficient.

Project Pitches

Nelson Jointer:

By junior year, it has become a known tradition of selling and buying books. At the

beginning of the semester, you always wonder if the book if really needed if though it is listed

as “required”. In most cases, you are required to buy the bundle that includes the software

needed and book. There are possibilities that can purchase the two separately, however. I can

say that majority of the students that purchase the bundle, opens the package and puts the

away until the end of the semester or uses it when needed.

Well, what if your professor calls you out to read an excerpt from the textbook or

summarize last night’s reading? That’s when the “Mobile-Text” app comes in. Nowadays most

students, own some sort of Smartphone with app capabilities. With the purchase of the bundle

or bought, an app could be added to replace the textbook for mobility. This helps students

without the totting of different textbooks to class and also allows the students to leave the

textbook at home for hardcopy and at home study.

Danielle Krumm: We have all been there before many times in our time at LSU. You are on your way to

class, knowing that you need to charge your laptop during class. Not knowing where the

outlets are, you walk all around the classroom trying to find an outlet, but you just can’t seem

to find one. Outlets are in the back of some classrooms, on the side walls in other classrooms,

they could really be anywhere. What if there was a way that you could know where every

outlet in your specific classroom is before you even step foot in the door.

My idea is a brand new iPhone app that allows you to do just that. This app would be

specific to different college campuses. This app would have all of the buildings on your campus

and tell you where all the outlets are in each classroom. For example, on LSU’s campus this app

would have the BEC building and tell you where all of the outlets are in every single classroom

in BEC are. I think this app would be extremely helpful for people who have multiple classes

and need to charge their laptops during class.

Project Pitches

Chance Wahl:

If you are building a new home, Dream Home is the app for you. Not only can you

upload and customize blueprints straight from your smartphone, but you can also share your

designs on the app with others who also have the app on their smartphones. This would make

the app an essential for all contractors, constructors and city planners alike. In addition to

being able to customize blueprints, a modeled home can also be viewed which will imitate

exactly your customized blueprints.

With the ability to be able to view a model home straight from your blueprints, builders

will be able to get a view of the finished product before they even lay down the first brick.

Users can then even customize which kind of floor, roof, paint and wallpaper they want in each

room so they can formulate an exact idea of what they would like the finalized project to look

like. Add furniture to the rooms for the final touch to see a model home that you’d be ready to

move in to tomorrow and this way you can even make sure each room fits the exact dimensions

that you envisioned prior to building.

Final Decision Group projects and events can take a lot of effort and time to coordinate. With

everyone balancing multiple projects for different classes or their part-time jobs, these

projects can sometimes cause extra stress. Not only do you have to worry about your

responsibilities in the group but you also have to worry about the other people working on

the project with you- have they completed their tasks? Who is responsible for which parts?

Who is going to submit the final draft?

There are plenty of to-do list types of applications available for smart phones, but what

about an application that lets you create a to-do type of list for project management in a

group. It could allow you to add tasks to the list and assign a particular group member to

that task. It could also have the option of adding a task to the list for someone to take

responsibility for and claim so that the rest of the group members could see that it was

covered and that person could check it off after completing.

With its simple design and ease of use, the app would allow you to see who has finished

what (and when) and who has taken responsibility for the tasks that had not been assigned

to a particular person. This could make communication and completion of a group project

much more effective and efficient.
