Anti-Aging Benefits of Boron Have you heard about boron being useful for slowing down the aging

process? You may have heard or read about it in beauty books. However,

there are many more benefits, that go deeper than the skin!

Boron is a trace mineral that is very important in maintaining and improving

the health of our body. This mineral assists the natural absorption of other

minerals such as magnesium and calcium, which is why this mineral is an

important one and often included in supplements.

The following are some of the reasons why boron can serve as one of your

shields against the signs of aging:

Lowered Risk of Osteoarthritis Boron has proven effective in preventing magnesium and calcium loss in the

urine. Since it helps prevent the loss of these vitally important macro

minerals, the regular intake of boron can significantly reduce the risk of

arthritis, osteoporosis and other bone problems associated with aging.

One study showed that post-menopausal women who regularly consumed 3

mg of boron reduced calcium excretion as much as 40 percent.

Studies show that people living in areas where boron availability is low report

higher rates of arthritis. Those living in geographical areas where the boron

content of the soil is high were found to have a lower incidence of

osteoarthritis.

Page 7: Table of Contents · Anti-Aging Benefits of Boron Have you heard about boron being useful for slowing down the aging process? You may have heard or read about it in beauty books

7

Australian research revealed that people dwelling in areas with high boron

content in water and soil had as much as 50 percent fewer cases of recorded

musculoskeletal diseases than in areas with low boron availability.

Research has determined that boron plays a role in facilitating the production

of steroid hormones that have a significant positive impact on arthritis.

Boron is also important in the formation of corticosteroids that are commonly

used in manufacturing drugs that are used to reduce pain among arthritis

sufferers.

Improved Cognitive Function A study showed that individuals who were on a low boron diet were found to

have poor performance in exams that tested their level of hand-to-eye

coordination, manual dexterity, perception, and short and long-term memory.

On the other hand, individuals with high boron content in their diet performed

better on the same tests.

Boron deficiency can lead to weakness and difficulty focusing on certain

tasks. Researchers conducted EEG or Electroencephalogram (EEG) tests

on study participants and found that those who were given boron

supplements had an increased level of alertness.

However, those study participants that were not asked to take boron

supplementation had no improvement in the level of their mental alertness.

Page 8: Table of Contents · Anti-Aging Benefits of Boron Have you heard about boron being useful for slowing down the aging process? You may have heard or read about it in beauty books

Reduced Menstrual Cramps Boron is a mineral that is very important for estrogen production and any

level of deficiency can significantly affect women’s health. One study

conducted among women showed that taking 10 mg of boron every day led

to reduced pain associated with their menstrual cramps.

The women in the study took the boron supplements 10 days before their

menstrual period. Researchers concluded that this benefit was attributed to

the anti-inflammatory properties of boron.

For menopausal women, the occurrence of hot flashes was also reduced

with the regular intake of boron.

Other Benefits of Boron Research has shown that boron is helpful for people suffering with

congestive heart failure. Boron has also been included as part of a treatment

plan for sufferers of leukemia, cancer, vitamin D deficiency and high

cholesterol.

Sources of Boron Boron is a mineral which exists in many plant foods as they readily obtain

this mineral from water and the soil.

A diet that includes daily intake of fruit and vegetables should be able to

supply adequate boron without supplementation.

Good sources of boron include avocados, plums, berries, grapes, alfalfa,

broccoli, cauliflower, peaches, kelp and beans – just to name a few.

Anti-Aging Remedy for Crow's Feet Crow’s feet are one of the signs of aging and the bane of everyone

concerned about how age affects their appearance. There are creams and

lotions and potions to reduce these fine lines, but before you invest your

money, the road to a younger looking face could be just a few steps into your

own kitchen.

Papaya Papaya is a rich source of vitamin C, which is an antioxidant that works to

fight against free radical damage. Another beneficial compound in papaya is

papain, which functions as an exfoliant while also tightening the skin.

• To reduce the appearance of crow’s feet, rub a raw papaya on your

face.

• Leave it on for ten minutes.

• Once it has dried, wash your face using cold water.

• Wait for ten minutes before rinsing it off.

Milk Here’s another remedy for you to try.

• Dip a piece of clean cloth into a bowl of whole milk and apply it to your

crow’s feet.

• Allow the whole milk to be absorbed into your skin for ten minutes

before rinsing.

Page 10: Table of Contents · Anti-Aging Benefits of Boron Have you heard about boron being useful for slowing down the aging process? You may have heard or read about it in beauty books

10

So why use milk? It contains a plethora of nutrients such as essential and

semi-essential amino acids, vitamins, minerals and lipids. These semi-

essential acids include proline that plays a role in the production of collagen.

Applying the whole milk onto your face on a regular basis, can help make

your skin collagen more stable.

Drinking whole milk is beneficial for the skin also, as the vitamin A and E

content are helpful in the process of skin cell renewal.

Aloe Vera Aloe Vera is another natural ingredient that you can include in your daily

beauty regimen to help reduce crow’s feet. It contains antioxidants that are

helpful for preventing the onset of crow’s feet and other wrinkles. Its minerals

and vitamins are powerful moisturizers that prevent the skin from drying out.

Regular use of aloe vera can help to achieve well-toned and vibrant facial

skin. Pluck one fresh aloe vera stem from the garden and apply its gel around

your eyes before going to bed. Leave it on until the following morning.

If applied daily, you will notice your crow’s feet becoming less noticeable

while your skin becomes well-hydrated and firmer.

Green Tea Cold green tea can be used as a facial wash. You may also dip some cotton

balls into the cup of cold green tea and then leave these cotton balls on the

top of your eyes and on your crow’s feet. The epigallocatechin in the green

tea works both when applied topically or when having it in a drink.

Page 11: Table of Contents · Anti-Aging Benefits of Boron Have you heard about boron being useful for slowing down the aging process? You may have heard or read about it in beauty books

11

Green tea contains catechin that helps prevent the appearance of more

crow’s feet. You can also squeeze a lemon into the tea before using it as a

facial wash for improved effect. This will work to contract the loose skin and

keep it feeling firmer.

Anti-Aging Supplements Growing older is a natural change and one we can’t beat. However, we all

want to slow this rate of change and enjoy the benefits of youth for as long

as possible. Whether that change is positive or negative highly depends on

our diet and overall lifestyle.

Health experts agree that what we eat greatly affects how young or how old

we look relative to our ‘real’ age. That certainly brings as back to ‘we are

what we eat’ doesn’t it?

One problem of aging is that our body’s digestive system has a more difficult

time of absorbing crucial nutrients. This is why people turn to anti-aging

supplements.

There are some that you may be familiar with. They are Glucosamine and

CoQ10 enzyme. There are many supplements people like to add to their anti-

aging regimen, but these two are very popular because they work!

Glucosamine is for…

…Younger, Healthier Skin

This supplement helps stabilize pigment production to prevent the

occurrence of hyperpigmentation. More than one study has revealed that

regularly taking glucosamine supplements can help make the wrinkles and

fine lines look less visible.

They have also shown that glucosamine is beneficial for improving skin

hydration and wound healing. Skin cosmetic manufacturers harness the

Page 13: Table of Contents · Anti-Aging Benefits of Boron Have you heard about boron being useful for slowing down the aging process? You may have heard or read about it in beauty books

13

ability of glucosamine in lightening skin pigmentation by adding it to their

products as an active ingredient.

…Stronger Bones and Joints

Glucosamine supplements are widely used for some of the common

diseases associated with aging, such as arthritis. Regular intake of

glucosamine has improved the lives of many people who suffer from this

painful condition. This supplement may not be able to overcome all arthritic

symptoms, but most have found it to be the most effective over the counter

supplement available.

It works effectively for reducing chronic inflammation and pain associated

with joint pain and arthritis. It can reduce pain to an extent that sufferers have

been able to reduce taking some of their pain-relieving drugs. Its ability to

provide relief for arthritis patients is attributed to its natural cartilage-building

properties.

A big positive is that the long-term use of glucosamine supplements have

been found helpful for slowing down the process of bone deterioration.

A Word of Caution before Taking Glucosamine

Please consult your doctor first before taking glucosamine supplements.

People who are allergic to shellfish may not be advised to take this

supplement.

This is because glucosamine is derived from shellfish protein. While the

incidence is low, it could produce an allergic reaction in some people.

Coenzyme Q10 Looking older than your actual age can be a sign of being CoQ10 deficient.

CoQ10 is a vitamin that works to recycle other nutrients such as vitamins E

and C. If your body does not have enough CoQ10, DNA damage can be

accelerated. Being CoQ10 deficient also increases the likelihood of suffering

from muscle soreness, weakness, heart failure and fatigue.

CoQ10 enzyme plays a major role in the production of energy in the body. In

fact, 95% of energy production is made possible with the help of the CoQ10

enzyme.

The regeneration and multiplication of cells in the body also takes place with

the help of CoQ10. If available levels are low, vital tissues will have first call

and skin cells given a lower priority.

This means that to keep the skin cells healthy inside and out, you need to

have enough CoQ10 in your body. Regular intake of this supplement will

provide protection against free radical damage, thus reducing the visible

effects of aging.

Although our body can produce some of its own CoQ10, as we age, our

body’s ability to produce it also declines and the taking of CoQ10

supplements can be beneficial.

If you are regularly taking COQ10 supplements, your brain, your heart and

your entire body will benefit. It is also an ingredient in many cholesterol

lowering supplements as well.

These two anti-aging supplements are the primary ones to consider,

providing you have no shellfish allergies!

Can You Reverse the Aging Process? The question, ‘can we reverse the aging process’ is touted by many beauty

product sellers as a big yes, providing we use their products. However, is it

truly possible? Are there things we can do ourselves to reverse the damage

and subsequent signs of aging that may have already occurred in our body?

Science is Working on It Japanese researchers have discovered something that could either delay

the aging process or even possibly bring back the youthful look that many

people long for. The research team found a significant link between the

regulation of two specific genes and the process of aging.

The researchers compared the functioning level of specific cells of children

aged 12 and elderly individuals aged 80 and above. As expected, the cells

from the older participants were found to have reduced cellular respiration.

However, they were surprised to find that the cells of these older participants

did not show more damage in their DNA structure than the cells taken from

the children. The cells were not damaged, but simply operating at a slower

rate.

This new finding led them to theorize that through genetic reprogramming of

the cells, it may be possible to reverse the process of aging. To be able to

find out if this is possible, the researchers are experimenting still, however

the findings from this study has led many people to be extremely hopeful.

Foods that Help You Delay the Aging Process Meanwhile, instead of merely relying on what scientists can do in order to

reverse the signs of aging, why not take matters into your own hand. You

have the power to make changes in your lifestyle that will provide benefits to

health and appearance, both of which will add to your quality of life.

One proven way is to improve your diet. Remove items that you know aren’t

beneficial to your health, even though they are tasty or habitual. Add foods

that you know are good for you. Experiment with preparation and make these

good foods your main foods. You can eat your way back through the years.

Ditch processed foods and go for ‘real whole foods’ only.

The following list of foods are foods that have the power to tap into the

younger side of you, help keep your youth and help reverse the signs of

aging.

Eggs

Eggs are great sources of protein and don’t be concerned about eggs and

their cholesterol content either. It is now known that eggs are not as harmful

for heart health as was once claimed!

Another benefit of eating eggs is that they contain choline, a nutrient that

plays a role in protecting the brain against inflammation. This translates to a

lowered risk of contracting Alzheimer’s disease.

Eggs are often called a ‘perfect protein’. Replacing sugar-rich foods with

good protein such as eggs, especially early in the day, is a terrific step in any

anti-aging diet.

Page 17: Table of Contents · Anti-Aging Benefits of Boron Have you heard about boron being useful for slowing down the aging process? You may have heard or read about it in beauty books

17

Avocados

Avocados are popular for their delicious taste and healthy fat content. They

are rich in glutathione which is a powerful antioxidant in fighting against the

signs of aging. These antioxidants not only help you flush out toxins but in

doing so they also help prevent the early onset of wrinkles.

Blueberries

These little super berries are giants in terms of anti-aging nutrients! They are

loaded with vitamin C that is beneficial for improving blood circulation.

Blueberries are rich in potassium that helps combat fluid retention and

puffiness and they contain natural salts and other minerals that serve as your

weapons against aging.

Green Tea

Your anti-aging diet may not be complete without green tea. This tea is an

excellent source of antioxidants that help lengthen the life and vitality of your

cells. The regular intake of green tea translates to a younger you, both inside

and out.

Kidney Beans

Kidney beans are packed with zinc, fiber, potassium and protein. All this

goodness in tiny little pulses! Adding kidney beans into your anti aging diet

can lower your risks for heart disease as they help keep your cholesterol

within healthy levels too.

Water - The Fountain of Youth Don’t ever grow tired of hearing the saying “Water is the fountain of youth”.

It is not a simply a cliché. It is a fact. Experts have long proven the anti aging

potentials of drinking water.

Water Hydrates the Skin and Keeps it Young Are you well-hydrated or is your body suffering from the effects of

dehydration? Can you tell if you are dehydrated? Look for the obvious signs.

Just take a look at your skin. If it feels soft and not dry then you are well-

hydrated, but if you see some scaly flakes on your skin, if it feels too tight

and dry then you need to drink more water.

Take a pinch of skin on your forearm and release it. It should return instantly

to its normal position, otherwise you are likely to be dehydrated.

If you are in the habit of religiously applying lotions and moisturizers to your

skin, perhaps you are disappointed that your skin’s natural radiance still

refuses to show. It will be because not even the best skin moisturizers or

lotions can replace what drinking water can do for your skin.

Water is far better and far more effective than any dermatological concoction

you could ever buy or apply. Remember, your skin has to be nourished first

on the inside, before it can appear healthy and youthful on the outside.

Water Serves as a Nutrient Transporter Water serves as the primary mode of transport inside the body. It is

responsible for transporting waste products, nutrients and oxygen all

Page 19: Table of Contents · Anti-Aging Benefits of Boron Have you heard about boron being useful for slowing down the aging process? You may have heard or read about it in beauty books

19

throughout the body. If your body does not receive proper hydration from

water it will more likely become acidic, which means you are setting yourself

up for increased risks of many diseases.

A lack of hydration means your blood becomes thicker and more condensed

and can therefore lead to poor circulation, poor oxygenation in the

surrounding tissues and your body will have a harder time getting rid of the

accumulated toxins.

Unfortunately, when this process of eliminating waste is not as efficient as it

should be waste products start to collect in the cells leading to cell

deterioration and eventually cell death. In turn, the processes of accelerated

aging will start to take place.

If you do suffer from premature aging, your hair may start to fall out or thin

excessively, your memory may start to fail, your body’s hormonal levels may

decrease, and your risk of heart attacks and other dangerous health issues

increases.

In summary, water flushes out the toxins from the body while the necessary

nutrients are transported to the cell that need them. This is how crucial water

is in terms of staving off the signs and symptoms of aging.

Young at Heart One of the most overlooked strategies in the prevention of heart disease is

water intake. Not having enough water in the body is a big deal when we talk

about heart health. Thicker blood places extra strain on the heart to move it

around the body.

Page 20: Table of Contents · Anti-Aging Benefits of Boron Have you heard about boron being useful for slowing down the aging process? You may have heard or read about it in beauty books

20

Having thicker blood in your veins leads to a slower transport of nutrients

throughout your body’s circulatory system. This lowered travel time for

nutrients can lead to the development of plaques, clots and inflammation that

prevents your heart from functioning at an optimum level.

Another problem with having thicker blood is that it contains greater

concentrations of glucose, bacteria, insulin and other toxins that damage the

endothelial lining of your blood vessels.

Therefore, if you want to stay young, stay well-hydrated. Drink plenty of water

and think of it is your fountain of youth. Don’t wait until you are thirsty to drink.

If your urine is dark, have a glass of water straight away. That way you will

keep your heart and your entire body healthy, and don’t stress, water doesn’t

make you fat!

If you drink a liter of water and stand on the scales, you are naturally going

to be a kilo heavier, but that is water weight, not fat! So, drink and be healthy

and don’t be fooled by the scales.

Facial Exercises to Help Reverse the Signs of Aging If you would like to prevent the onset of fine lines and wrinkles on your face,

rather than spend money on ‘quick fixes’ you can exert a little effort and do

some facial exercises.

Performing regular facial exercises can certainly stop the signs of aging and

make you look younger. You only need your fingers and a positive mental

attitude to help keep the facial signs of aging at bay.

The following is a list of exercises that you can perform on a regular basis.

You can do them anytime you like. Just be loyal to yourself and continue to

do the exercises if you want to look younger, slow down the signs of aging

and yes, look five or ten years younger than your age!

Remember that anti-aging is a process, not an event. Forming and repeating

good habits will reap better rewards than intensive but inconsistent actions.

Crow’s Feet and Drooping Eyelids Put your two middle fingers in between your eye brows and press tightly. At

the same time press your pointer fingers on the far outer corners of your

eyebrows. Your fingers should look like a V, so 2 V’s together. Like this: VV

Now look up at the ceiling and while doing so, raise your lower eyelids. Hold

for a moment, then relax and repeat six times.

This exercise is excellent for keeping the skin around the eyes and the

eyelids nice and firm.

Page 22: Table of Contents · Anti-Aging Benefits of Boron Have you heard about boron being useful for slowing down the aging process? You may have heard or read about it in beauty books

22

Cheeks To prevent your cheeks from sagging, exercise it by smiling as hard as you

can. You can also accentuate the words, “OOH” and “EEE”. Repeat these

words and really pull and push your cheeks at the same time. This exercise

also helps avoid the appearance of a double chin. Another exercise you can

perform is to use the right side first of your face, then make a wide grin on

that side and while you are grinning, pull up as hard as you can those

muscles in your cheek and hold it at least ten seconds. Repeat the same

process on the left side of your cheek.

Wrinkles Expose the white areas of your eyes by widening them. Hold them in this

position until you notice the water or tears start to fall. Widening your eyes

as wide as you can, exercises the muscles in your face, particularly around

your forehead and eyes. The traces of any fine lines from squinting will be

eliminated, since your exercise is performing the opposite of your squint.

Neck and Double Chin One of the signs of aging is sagging skin that is very noticeable from the chin

down to the neck. No one wants a turkey neck! One exercise that helps

prevent this is to close your mouth while looking up. Make sure to stretch

your neck back as far as you can. While you are doing this stretch, place

your lower lip over your top lip while smiling as wide as you can.

You can also do the one as we said earlier, say the words “OOO” and “EEE”

and pull those neck muscles as you do!

How to Improve Skin Elasticity Elasticity refers to the ability of the skin to return to its place once it is

stretched. The suppleness and elasticity of the skin is a noticeable

characteristic of younger looking skin.

Unfortunately, our level of elasticity changes as time goes by and we begin

to age. However, don’t let this worry you unduly as there are plenty of ways

to keep your skin’s elasticity from deteriorating more than it should. You can

still have firm, well-toned skin despite growing older.

Here are a few useful tips you can do to improve your skins elasticity.

Exercise Of course, this is one of the majors. Exercise forces your body to improve

blood flow and this translates to more oxygen being delivered throughout

your body.

In turn, your skin benefits. One obvious result of regular exercise is that

supple, toned skin radiates. This makes the skin look younger and more

vibrant.

Cardio training is an excellent form of exercise as it flushes out toxins from

the body. It also improves the delivery of nutrients to the cells and aids in the

process of skin cell regeneration.

Exercise is also important for keeping the production of cortisol, a stress-

related hormone, within healthy levels. Having too much cortisol in the body

can lead to the increased production of sebum and this can lead to the

Page 24: Table of Contents · Anti-Aging Benefits of Boron Have you heard about boron being useful for slowing down the aging process? You may have heard or read about it in beauty books

24

appearance of acne. Having high levels of cortisol may also damage the

skins collagen and the result will undoubtedly be sagging, wrinkled skin.

However, with regular exercise your collagen production is maintained and

this means having more supple, firmer skin. The elasticity of the skin cannot

help but improve!

Hydration and Moisturization Keeping the skin hydrated and hence moisturized, will help ward off any early

signs of aging. This is because dehydrated skin becomes prone to the

damage caused by free radicals. Keeping it hydrated will help boost your

skin’s ability to repair itself.

Therefore, drinking plenty of water is of the utmost importance if you want

your skin to look ‘full’ and not wrinkly. Water makes your skin soft and supple.

When choosing skin creams and moisturizers, choose creams that contain

neroli or chamomile. Chamomile has been found helpful in repairing broken

capillaries and improving the skin elasticity. Neroli works to improve the

process of cell regeneration and as an added benefit, helps prevent the

development of varicose veins.

Stop Smoking Smoking contains a plethora of harmful chemicals that not only make your

skin become discolored, but also promotes premature development of fine

lines, facial wrinkles and dry skin.

Page 25: Table of Contents · Anti-Aging Benefits of Boron Have you heard about boron being useful for slowing down the aging process? You may have heard or read about it in beauty books

25

However, if you stop smoking your collagen production will eventually return

to normal and if you follow some of the other tips mentioned, your skins

elasticity will improve as well.

Eat Anti-Aging Nutrients to Improve Skin Elasticity

Sorbitol

This nutrient is commonly found in seaweeds, berries and grapes. It is known

to help the skin hold more moisture thus improving the elasticity of the skin.

Lutein

Since dermatologists discovered the wonders of lutein in improving skin

elasticity, they have included this nutrient in many of their skin care products.

However, to get the most benefit out of lutein, it is best to obtain it in its most

natural form - by eating whole foods that are rich in lutein. These include

eggs and green leafy vegetables.

Lycopene

The lycopene content found in orange, red and yellow foods provides extra

ultraviolet protection for your skin. In fact, its ability to protect your skin from

UV rays has been rated by experts as having a factor four sunscreen. So it

has a natural built in UV barrier.

This isn’t enough to stop your skin from burning, but as you can see, eating

a healthy diet has many hidden benefits in keeping your skin looking young

and healthy.

Natural Botox Alternatives Are you worried about your wrinkles and fine lines? Are you considering

taking drastic measures and having botox injections? If so, perhaps you

might like to look at some natural botox alternatives. After all, botox can make

your face look paralyzed. How many people on TV do you look at and think,

‘they must have had botox!’

Here are some natural alternatives for you to consider, that will help make

your skin look younger. Plus, if you forgo surgery or injections, you take away

all risks of suffering from any of their negative side effects.

Facial Acupuncture This treatment can reduce the signs of aging, as it tightens your pores and

promotes blood flow to the skin.

Acupuncture has the ability to heal the fibers of your skin in a natural way.

This is partly because your skin perceives the small punctures as a form of

attack.

Your body’s immune response will be to send more white blood cells to your

face as a form of defense. This increased production of white blood cells to

your face will result in the restoration of the old fibers and strengthen the

skin.

Acupuncture has long been used in traditional medicine to restore vitality and

boost energy. This is why facial acupuncture is used to help remove wrinkles,

dark circles, acne scars and fine lines.

So, instead of a cosmetic surgeon, look up your nearest acupuncturist, as

they are also capable of performing treatments that involve facial

rejuvenation.

Make sure you choose an acupuncturist that is licensed to perform facial

rejuvenation treatments.

Cryotherapy This is a treatment that uses nitrogen vapors which are sprayed to the

person’s neck and face with the help of a cryo wand. This therapy runs on

an average temperature of -274˚F. This is the reason why some people call

it a ‘cold beauty treatment’.

Cryotherapy speeds up the process of cell regeneration and dead cells are

quickly eliminated. Many people are afraid to try the procedure, thinking that

it will be too cold to endure.

However, the skin surface temperature is closely monitored throughout the

duration of the treatment.

This cold treatment improves the production of collagen, making the skin

look more toned while fine lines and pores are reduced. The natural reaction

of your skin when it’s cold is to tighten.

Therefore, the tightening of your blood vessels when subjected to the cold

temperature makes your skin look less puffy and instead makes your skin

feel tight and rejuvenated.

Rejuvenating Egg Mask This is one of the best natural botox alternatives that you can prepare in your

own kitchen. It is the easiest and most affordable because you only need

one egg to put on your face!

So how is it possible that one egg, particularly its white portion can help fight

against the signs of aging? The answer is protein and collagen.

These are the two potent nutrients present in egg whites that make eggs very

effective as facial masks for reducing fine lines, wrinkles and strengthening

facial skin tone.

The caveat is, although it is an all-natural solution this mask is not for

everybody. There are some people who have sensitive skin and can

experience an acne breakout.

So, if you do not have allergies to egg whites, if you’re not afraid of

acupuncture or cold treatments, you can tighten the skin without looking

‘botox paralyzed’.

Resveratrol for Anti-Aging

Resveratrol is an antioxidant commonly found in grapes but is also present

in cocoa. It is an antioxidant proven to be one of the most potent for age-

related health issues.

Resveratrol is produced by plants in the form of ‘phytoalexin’ which protects

them from the adverse effects of ultraviolet light, climate change and

infections from the environment. Lucky for us, these protective effects of

resveratrol work for us too!

Many studies have been conducted by experts in order to find out just how

powerful resveratrol can be in turning back the clock and preventing the signs

of aging.

Resveratrol Helps Improve Cardiovascular Health Resveratrol is a powerful antioxidant and as such helps reduce the damaging

effects of oxidation.

This leads to the reduction of inflammation and oxidative stress, which

subsequently reduces the onset of cardiovascular problems as we age. This

makes resveratrol a powerful ingredient in the management of heart health.

Results from some of the preliminary research shows that resveratrol works

to protect the blood vessel walls from the adverse effects of oxidation and

therefore translates to improved vascular and heart health.

Resveratrol Protects the Arteries In one study, post-menopausal women and hypertensive men (those with

high blood pressure), were asked to consume a highly bioactive form of

resveratrol.

The results showed that after ingesting resveratrol within an hour their blood

flow increased rapidly in the major artery located in the upper arm which is

called the brachial artery.

Reduced blood flow to this specific area has been linked to hypertension and

obesity. Experts say this positive effect from resveratrol can be attributed to

its ability to protect the ‘endothelium’ which is a very delicate layer of the

arteries, against the effects of free radicals.

Another reason why resveratrol helps improve cardiovascular health is

because it also plays a role in nitric oxide production. Nitric oxide is produced

in the endothelium and is responsible for keeping the blood vessels dilated.

As we age our blood vessels can collapse which is why people suffer with

heart problems, heart attacks and strokes. Resveratrol is an anti-aging heart

booster.

Resveratrol Helps Fight Against Cancer Cancer is yet another age-related health problem. Sure, young people suffer

with this deadly disease, however, many more people fear the onset of

contracting cancer as they get older.

Resveratrol has been found helpful in fighting cancer, but how?

An interesting study about the benefits of resveratrol for fighting cancer was

published by Michael Nicholl. His study and research found that resveratrol

can be a good inclusion in a cancer patient’s treatment plan.

This is resveratrol was shown to help make tumor cells highly susceptible to

the effects of radiation therapy. They found that by administering resveratrol

into the cancerous cells, the activity of the proteins increased, thereby

enabling the radiation therapy to kill more cells (as much as 97% of the

cancer cells).

That is not only interesting, but an incredible discovery!

Are You Ready to Take Resveratrol for Anti-Aging and Health? You are probably wondering what you can do to make sure you benefit from

the powers of resveratrol. It’s easy. If you are a wine drinker, you’ll be happy

to know resveratrol is in red wine, so yes, you can enjoy a glass of red.

If you are a non-drinker you may also obtain resveratrol from red grapes,

blueberries, dark chocolate (made with cocoa) and peanut butter. There

should be something listed here that suits you!

Your Metabolism and Aging How does your metabolism affect aging? There is a great deal of conflicting

information regarding metabolism, especially when it comes to delaying the

effects of aging. Many people also tend to talk in absolutes, whereas good

health and anti-aging exists in a spectrum, rather than an absolute sweet

spot.

Metabolism is measured using your Base Metabolic Rate (BMR), which the

amount of energy (calories) it takes to maintain your body at rest. Simply,

someone with a higher BMR will burn more calories in the course of their day

than someone with a lower BMR.

When people talk about ‘increasing your metabolism’ they mean that you will

utilize more calories while expending the same energy. If caloric input does

not increase when BMR is raised the body will store less fat and will even

use body fat for energy if needed. This makes increasing ‘metabolism’

attractive for those wishing to lose weight.

However, some researchers believe, with statistics to support their belief,

that the slower your metabolism is, the slower you age. The premise is that

if you have a fast metabolism you are using lots of energy. If you are using

lots of energy, you are also wearing things out.

A useful analogy is a motor car. If it drives slowly (low BMR) it reaches its

destination (end of life) more slowly (anti-aging) with more fuel (body fat) in

the tank.

Unfortunately, this is more simplistic than a human life is and does not

incorporate the variables that make the difference. For example, the low-

33

BMR/longer life theory is largely predicated on the fact that the higher BMR

utilizes increased oxygen which increases the creation of free radicals, which

it does.

The inference then is that this increased free radical activity will increase cell

damage, causing the body to wear out or age faster. However, if the body

has adequate antioxidant support from consistently good dietary sources, it

can deal very well with these free radicals, unless the body is under extreme

stress.

If your goal is quality of life, longevity and helping your body look and feel

younger than its years, you would do well to not focus too much on the

theoretical debate about metabolism.

Instead, follow these health-sustaining directives:

Drink Lots of Water Water increases your metabolism, helps you lose excess weight and keep

the weight off. People who prefer fizzy soft drinks have a slower metabolism

than those who drink water. Drinking plenty of water throughout the day

allows your body to burn more calories and gets nutrients and antioxidants

to the cells where they are needed.

Exercise Regularly Exercise is another safe way to increase your metabolism in a healthy way.

Through exercise your stored calories are used, or burned, while at the same

time your muscle mass increases.

Page 34: Table of Contents · Anti-Aging Benefits of Boron Have you heard about boron being useful for slowing down the aging process? You may have heard or read about it in beauty books

34

The result is an increased overall calorie expenditure. The bonus is that

exercise is perfect for your health and preventing age related diseases.

Exercise is perfect for your longevity.

Choose exercise that does not take you to the point of exhaustion and avoid

high-impact sports. A lack of exercise will increase the chances of suffering

from depression, anxiety and chronic degenerative diseases.

Observe Healthy Eating Habits Another way to boost your metabolism and/or to keep your metabolism within

normal levels is to eat healthy foods. A diet based on healthy protein and

vegetables and fruits will prevent feelings of hunger and will deliver the broad

range of antioxidants that are your magic bullets in the anti aging war.

Avoid Sugar Avoid sugar and foods containing sugar and kick any sugar habit you may

have. Whether it is white sugar, refined sugar, white starch or fructose corn

syrup - these are all ‘metabolism killers’.

Banish cakes, fast foods, sauces and foods containing high fructose corn

syrup (HFCS). If you continually eat these types of foods, you are losing the

fight against aging. You will be far more susceptible to all the diseases

related to aging, which are mostly more related to lifestyle.

So, if you want to avoid the premature signs of aging, stick to a high-nutrient

and low-calorie intake, as your metabolism will neither be too slow nor too

fast and it will keep your body in a healthy state, for a longer life.
