Overview

IBM® Lotus Notes® and Domino® 8.5.3 includes a vast array of end-user featureenhancements to increase personal productivity of Lotus Notes, Lotus® iNotesTM,and Lotus Notes Traveler for users and developers using Domino Designer.

Highlights:

• Lotus Notes 8.5.3 delivers significant usability enhancements to supportsocial businesses and helps users get work done fast. Calendar and mailenhancements:

– Auto processing, which automatically applies updates to meetings that youhave accepted as updates arrive

– Counter proposals so that when you propose a new time for a meeting, youcan choose to leave a placeholder for the original meeting time on the calendar

– Enhanced new mail notification, which provides a pop up preview of new mailmessages as they arrive

– Notification to existing invitees when adding or removing attendees from anexisting meeting, informing them of the change and updating the invitee list ontheir calendar invitation

• Entitlement to IBM Connections Files and Profiles, for no additional charge, allowsyou to tap into the knowledge of networks of professionals with a single click.This helps users to quickly find skills within their organization and to easily sharecontent with other people and remove the need to send large files through email.

• Lotus Domino 8.5.3 provides greater platform flexibility and improved hardwareefficiency through expanded virtualization support.

• Lotus Domino Designer 8.5.3 continues to deliver innovation for developerswith enhancements focused on performance and scalability and enhanced userexperience. Improved XPages support for industry-standard web applicationmodels makes it easier to bring applications to mobile devices. Availability of aDomino Server trial makes it easy for customers to try before they buy.

• Lotus Notes Traveler support for Nokia Symbian 3 devices allows you to expandthe reach of the business to more devices. For Android users, additional LotusTraveler enhancements improve usability, performance, and deployment in theareas of additional operating system support, calendar, mail, and deployment.The capability to wipe only Lotus Traveler Mail, Calendar, and Contact data froman Apple iOS device is also available.

• Lotus iNotes 8.5.3 delivers productivity gains with enhancements to improve thedeployment experience.

IBM Lotus Notes and Domino 8.5.3 delivers new innovative features to helporganizations become social businesses by providing information to help users findthe content and people they need. Users can tailor their work environment withwidgets that bring social communities that are important to the job right into theirperipheral view.

Lotus Notes 8.5.3 helps you quickly locate the people and content you need throughintegrated access to social tools from IBM Connections. This release provides anentitlement to the Files and Profiles features of IBM Connections 3.0.1 to customerswith these licenses :

• IBM Lotus Domino Enterprise Client Access License

• IBM Lotus Domino Messaging Client Access License

• IBM Lotus Domino Collaboration Express® License

• IBM Lotus Domino Messaging Express License

As a Lotus Notes customer, you can now deploy and access the Files and Profilesfeatures of IBM Connections at no additional charge.

Access to the Files feature allows users to easily share content with other peopleand remove the need to send large files through email. It also allows you to socializecontent you create, allowing people to easily find it, make recommendations, andshare with other people.

Profiles helps users find the people they need by searching across the organization'scontent using tags to identify expertise, current projects, and responsibilities. Itsocializes skills, interests, and organizational structure for others to discover andbenefit from.

Seamlessly collaborate right within the context of your work environmentwith Lotus Notes 8.5.3

Lotus Notes provides an easy-to-use, single point of access to everything you needto get your work done quickly, including business applications, email, calendars,feeds, and more. There are numerous usability and productivity enhancements inmail, calendar, contacts available in Lotus Notes 8.5.3 to support social businesses.

This release also includes updates to the embedded versions of IBM Sametime® andLotus SymphonyTM. The IBM Lotus Notes client improves real-time communicationby taking advantage of the latest instant messaging and unified telephony andpresence awareness services provided by IBM Sametime Entry 8.5.1. These can beaccessed in the IBM Sametime Connect desktop client or in a Sametime-enabledMicrosoft® Outlook client.

IBM Sametime Entry 8.5.1 extends the capabilities of IBM Sametime 8.5 toadditional desktop operating systems and mobile device operating systems, thusproviding comprehensive support for all of the most popular desktop and mobiledevice operating systems. In addition, customers are entitled to deploy a stand-alone version of IBM Sametime Entry 8.5.2 or utilize the plug-in installer to updateSametime within Lotus Notes.

The embedded version of IBM Lotus Symphony has been upgraded to LotusSymphony 3.0. that provides a greatly enhanced user experience.

Lotus iNotes 8.5.3 delivers usability improvements and productivity gains

• Significant improvements in the auto-processing of meeting updates streamliningthe user experience

• Able to maintain current document focus during sort and search operations

• Delivers IBM Sametime 8.5.2 Ajax proxy integration, which continues to provideintegrated presence awareness to Lotus iNotes with better performance andricher features

– Business card

• Support for a delivery option to not expand personal groups when sendingmessages

• Improved sorting on subject which ignores prefixes such as Re: and Fw:

• Support for all calendar alarm preferences

• Has larger default font size

• Includes policy updates that provide support for per-user customizations andpolicy-controlled Lotus Sametime 8.5.2 Ajax Proxy web client integration

• Support for Firefox 4 and 5, Internet Explorer 9, and Safari 5 interoperability withbrowser native XSS protection; support for Chrome 12

The above features all run on the power of the Lotus Domino 8.5.3 server. LotusDomino 8.5.3 provides greater platform flexibility and improved hardware efficiencythrough expanded virtualization support. Support is now available for Kernal-basedVirtual Machines (KVM) on Red Hat Enterprise Linux® and SUSE Linux EnterpriseServer.


Enhancements to the server mean that administrators can spend less time on day-to-day server management, focus on strategic initiatives, and departments canreduce administrative and support costs. Examples include :

• Dojo upgraded to versions 1.5.0 and 1.5.1, which provide support for mobiledevices.

• New "attrs" (attributes) and "type" properties improve support for HTML5.

• OneUI upgraded to version 2.1 improves ability to control application look andfeel through CSS.

• XPages preload options have been added to improve the startup performance ofXPages applications.

• "Evaluate the entire page on refresh" attribute added as Application Propertiesperformance property for XPages applications.


• Dynamic aggregation of Dojo JavaScript files and CSS files drastically reducesbrowser requests for these resources which dramatically improves initialapplication performance.

Lotus Notes and Domino 8.5 is mobile

Lotus Notes Traveler and Lotus iNotes lets you extend collaboration to your mobileemployees and keeps them connected with people and information from anylocation, through the broadest support of mobile devices and tablets.

Lotus Notes Traveler 8.5.3 includes numerous enhancements to support theproductivity of mobile workers. Lotus Notes Traveler client is now available for NokiaSymbian 3 devices in addition to Nokia S60 third and fifth edition devices as issupport for encryption enforcement on Nokia Symbian 3 devices. Additional Travelerenhancements improve usability, performance, and deployment for Android usersand include:

• Android OS 3.x support.

• Android Calendar and Mail enhancements, including tap-to-dial and support formultiple line signatures.

• Lotus Installer features such as automatic client updates that are part of theLotus Notes Traveler client application on Android, to further simplify theinstallation on that platform.

• Security: The new device approval policy allows administrators to specify thenumber of devices each end user may connect into the Traveler environment andadds an allow/deny checkpoint option as a gatekeeper for access.

The capability to wipe only Lotus Traveler Mail, Calendar, and Contact data froman Apple iOS device is now available. In addition, when using the Name Lookupfeature on your mobile device, group names on in your corporate directory will alsobe returned in the search results.

Authorized User

Authorized User is the unit of measure by which this program is licensed. AnAuthorized User is an individual (named or unnamed) within or outside of yourenterprise. The program may be installed on one or more computers or serversand accessed by the number of users authorized by the Proof of Entitlement (PoE).You must have an entitlement for each Authorized User accessing the program orany program component in any manner directly or indirectly (for example, via amultiplexing program, device, or application server) through any means.

Processor Value Unit (PVU)

PVU is a unit of measure by which the program can be licensed. The number of PVUentitlements required is based on the processor technology (defined within the PVUTable by processor value, brand, type, and model number at

and the number of processors made available to the program. IBM continues todefine a processor, for the purpose of PVU-based licensing, to be each processorcore on a chip. A dual-core processor chip, for example, has two processor cores.

Licensee can deploy the program using either full capacity licensing or virtualizationcapacity (sub-capacity) licensing according to the Passport Advantage Sub-CapacityLicensing Terms (refer to the webpage below). If using full capacity licensing,licensee must obtain PVU entitlements sufficient to cover all activated processorcores* in the physical hardware environment made available to or managed by theprogram, except for those servers from which the program has been permanentlyremoved. If using virtualization capacity licensing, licensee must obtain entitlementssufficient to cover all activated processor cores made available to or managed by theprogram, as defined according to the Virtualization Capacity License Counting Rulesat

SoftwareMaintenance also provides you with access to updates (modifications or fixes),releases, and versions of the program. You will be notified, via announcementletter, of discontinuance of support with 12 months' notice. If you require additionaltechnical support from IBM, including an extension of support beyond thediscontinuance date, contact your IBM representative or IBM Business Partner. Thisextension may be available for a fee.
