Celi came to Liberty aft er three seasons with the Charlott e Lady Eagles of the United States (USL) W-League, the premier women’s soccer league in the United States, as an assistant to head coach Lee Horton. With the club, Celi was responsible for recruiti ng players for the team, implement-ing training sessions, running camps and clinics and coaching, training and teaching sports ministry, both in the United States and in Brazil. The squad’s roster included former Liberty standout goal-keeper Sonia Rodriguez, who was a Lady Flame from 2001-05, and Celi’s former assistant coach Abby Crumpton. “Jessica has a great vision for the Liberty Women’s Soccer program,” stated Rodriguez, the 2005 Rock Royer/Mac Rivera Award winner, Liber-ty’s highest athleti cs honor. “I’m excited to see where she is going to take them. She will be a great role model and mentor for the student-athletes.” During her three years with Charlott e, she helped guide the Lady Eagles to a 32-8-2 record. 2000 CONFERENCE CHAMPIONS
As the 2000 season began, expectati ons were high for the Liberty Lady Flames wom-en’s soccer team. Coming off the most suc-cessful season in the school’s history in which the Lady Flames posted their fi rst-ever win-ning record, the team won its fi rst-ever BigSouth Tournament game and advanced to the championship of the Big South tournament for the fi rst ti me before falling 3-2 in a heart-breaking overti me loss to Elon, head coachJames Price’s squad set the highest goals ever for the program - a Big South Championship. Aft er posti ng a 4-2 Big South regular season record, Liberty entered the Big South Cham-pionships at Radford, Va. as the number two seed drawing seventh-seed UNC Asheville in the fi rst round.
EXPECTATIONS REALIZED; LADY FLAMES CAPTURE PROGRAM’S FIRST-EVER BIG SOUTH CHAMPIONSHIP
Aft er a sluggish fi rst 20 minutes in which the Bulldogs took a 1-0 lead, the Lady Flames quick-ly took control of the game as junior forward Nancy Davis ti ed the score on an unassisted goal and less then 70 seconds later took a feed from senior Cheryl Jones for another tally. Aft er that, Liberty never looked back on its way to a 3-1 victory. Junior Breanna Jacinto added a goal in the second half. In the semifi nals, the Lady Flames used soph-omore midfi elder Emily Shubin’s early fi rst half unassisted tally and strong defense to shut out Charleston Southern, 1-0. With the win, Liber-ty moved to the championship game to meet the top-seeded Elon Phoenix for the second-straight season. Neither team could manage a goal in the fi rst half as they went to intermission knott ed in a scoreless ti e and it remained deadlocked for the next 36 minutes of the second half. In thegame’s 81st minute, sophomore forward Kati e Woodrow slipped behind the Elon defense and was hauled down in the penalty area, resulti ng in a penalty shot. Davis would put the shot just inside the right post for a 1-0 lead with only nine minutes left . The Phoenix made an off ensive push in an att empt to even the score when a neutral zone turnover set up a corner kick for Liberty. On the kick from the right of the Elon keeper, Jones sent a cross which Davis blasted from fi ve yards out through a sea of players to seal a 2-0 victory and the program’s fi rst-ever Big South Champi-onship.
The Lady Flames had proved they were up to the task. Goalie Amy Moxley earned her second shutout in two straight days and her fourth of the season in the win. Davis, who tallied four of Liberty’s six tourna-ment goals, was named the MVP. Jacinto, Sarah Gantner and Jenny Davis also were named to the all-tournament team. The team entered new territory for a Liberty team as it hosted Tennessee Tech in an NCAA Play-In game in hopes of earning the program’s fi rst-ever NCAA Tournament berth. Senior Makaela Gibson, playing on her home fi eld for the fi nal ti me, scored the game’s lone goal in the 31st minute off a cross from Nancy Davis and the Lady Flames would make it stand up for third straight shutout, 1-0, to secure the pro-gram’s fi rst NCAA Tournament berth. In the fi rst round of the NCAA Tournament, Liberty fell to ACC power Wake Forest on their home fi eld, 6-1, to end the season. Despite the loss, it failed to diminish the mag-ical season by the Lady Flames as they posted a school-best 15-7 record, the program’s fi rst Big South championship and its fi rst berth to the NCAA Tournament. They proved they could meet expectati ons.

AN ENCORE! LADY FLAMES BECOME THE FIRST TEAM TOREPEAT AS BIG SOUTH CHAMPIONS
Aft er having the best season in the history of the program by capturing the team’s fi rst-ever Big South Conference Championship and secur-ing the program’s fi rst NCAA Tournament berth, the Lady Flames entered 2001 with determina-ti on to improve upon the prior season. Not only did the team want to repeat as Big South Cham-pions, something no team had done since the beginning of the tournament in 1993, but they also wanted to win the program’s fi rst NCAA Tournament game. With a majority of 2000’s team returning, opti mism was high on Liberty Mountain for the program. Facing the toughest schedule in the pro-gram’s history, not only would James Price’s
squad have a tough conference slate to ma-neuver through, but they would also face some strong teams nati onally in Central Florida, Vir-ginia, UNC Wilmington and Wake Forest in non-conference match-ups. Aft er getti ng off to a 3-1-1 mark in confer-ence play and winning six of eight October games, the team dropped its last two games of the regular season, including a 1-0 decision at Charleston Southern, to end its conference schedule. The loss would send the defending confer-ence champions to the tournament at Charles-ton, S.C. as the number three seed and a fi rst round match with High Point, a team which had beaten the Lady Flames earlier in the year. Lauren Zealand’s breakaway goal down the middle of the box at the 6:25 mark avenged an earlier regular season defeat as Liberty ad-vanced to the semifi nals with a 1-0 victory. Host Charleston Southern, the second seed, awaited the Lady Flames in the semifi nals. Once again, defense was the key as Liberty limitedCharleston Southern, a squad which had beat-en the Lady Flames the previous weekend, to only seven shots in its second 1-0 win of the tournament. Kati e Woodrow provided the match’s only goal in the 10th minute of play. In the cham-pionship game, the Lady Flames took on top-seeded Elon for the third year in a row. The two teams were scoreless late into the match unti l Liberty broke through with two

quick scores. Off a corner kick in the ti ght con-test, Jenny Davis found net by heading in EmilyShubin’s cross at the 82:51 mark. The duo fol-lowed it up less than a minute later at 83:35 as Davis once again headed a Shubin corner kick in for a 2-0 lead. Freshman goalkeeper Natalie Mayer and the defense held on for their third shutout as the Lady Flames repeated as Big South Champi-ons. With the victory, Liberty became the fi rst Big South team since the tournament began in 1993 to repeat as champion.Davis earned Tournament MVP honors and was joined by teammates Mayer, Zealand and defender Sarah Gantner on the all-tournament team. Next up was a NCAA Tournament fi rst-round match with Virginia, which the Lady Flames dropped in a 3-0 decision. However, it could not dampen the accom-plishments of the 2001 Lady Flames. Deter-mined and committ ed, the team did something no other Big South squad had done before, re-peat as Big South Champions and set the bar high for future Lady Flame soccer teams.

ON A ROLL; LADY FLAMES COME TOGETHER TO WINRECORD THIRD BIG SOUTH CHAMPIONSHIP
2005 BIG SOUTH CHAMPIONS
It had been four years since the Liberty Lady Flames had hoisted their second Big South Championship trophy. Aft er enduring a rig-orous stretch to begin the season, the Lady Flames seemed to be coming together as a team when they entered the 2005 Big South Championship with a 5-3 regular season con-ference record and the tournament’s No. 3 seed. On a rampage, they had won the fi nal fourmatches of the season, three of them against conference rivals. In what head coach James Price later called the team’s best all-around performance of the season, the Lady Flames opened the tournament with a bang in their fi rst-round contest Thursday aft ernoon, over-powering the No. 6 seed Birmingham-South-ern Panthers, 4-1, on the power of two sec-ond-half goals from the foot of Rachel Hetrick. Ashley Braam got the scoring started at the 32:47 mark, off an assist from defender Tanya Payne. The tally gave the Lady Flames a 1-0 lead at half. Midway through the second half, Britt ney Bench chose a perfect ti me to score her fi rst goal of the year, putti ng the ball into the back of the net at the 61:24 mark off a pass from midfi elder Mandee Judd. At 77:35, Hetrick scored her fi rst goal of the tournament to make the score 3-0, off a pass into the box by Sarah Davis. The Panthers mustered their only goal of the game with less than 10 minutes remaining
in the match to cut the score to 3-1. However, 1:10 later, Hetrick notched her second goal of the match off a pass from Amy Oberlin, giving the Lady Flames a 4-1 victory. In their only night game of the tournamentFriday, Liberty faced No. 7 seed Radford, who had upset No. 2 seed High Point the previous day, in a semifi nal match-up. On a hazy and humid night, the Lady Flames took it to the Highlanders in a physical match much closer than the two teams’ meeti ng ear-lier in the season. In the early stages of the match, neither team could muster much off ense, as the two teams combined for just seven shots in a score-less fi rst half. Early in the second half, the Lady Flames would trail for the fi rst and only ti me during their tournament run as Radford nett ed its lone goal in the contest’s 54th minute. However, the 1-0 defi cit was shortlived as less than two minutes later, Oberlin rocketed a header past the Highlander keeper off a cross from Rachel Bendzlowicz, knotti ng the game at 1-1. The ti e quickly disappeared as Bench put Lib-erty up for good in the 61st minute on a cross from Payne. The Lady Flames held on for a 2-1 decision. Appearing in their fourth conference cham-pionship game and the fi rst since 2001, Liberty squared off against No. 1 seed UNC Asheville Sunday aft ernoon. In their previous meeti ng in early October

in Asheville, the high-scoring Bulldogs had controlled play throughout the game on their way to a 4-1 win. However, this day was diff erent as the Lady Flames’ defense shut down UNCA en route to a shutout victory. Aft er playing to a scoreless stalemate in the fi rst half, Payne put Liberty on the board in the match’s 48th minute by plac-ing a penalty kick into the right corner of the net for a 1-0 Lady Flames advantage. Liberty extended its lead in the game’s 65th minute as a racing Judd split two de-fenders and broke up the middle, blasti ng home a rebound of her own shot which the Bulldog keeper saved, but couldn’t control and clear.Judd added her second goal just minutes later off of a Hetrick corner kick, giving Lib-erty its seventh straight win, 3-0, and its third Big South Conference championship. Bendzlowicz was named the tourna-ment’s MVP, while three other Lady Flames - Bench, Oberlin and Hetrick - were named to the all-tournament team. Liberty advanced to the fi rst round of the NCAA Tournament, where it fell to site host and nati onally-ranked Virginia, but that did not take away the renewed hope and en-thusiasm surrounding the program aft er breaking through for another Big South ti tle.

BIG SOUTH CONFERENCE
Since its founding in 1983, the Big South Conference has matured into a competi ti ve leader in college athleti cs, acti vely pursuing excellence on the fi eld of play and in the classroom. The League’s growing presence as an NCAA Division I athleti c conference is evident by athleti c accomplishments on the nati onal stage, innovati ve marketi ng and media partnerships, increased television packages, and quality athleti c competi ti on while intenti onally fostering the academic, personal, social, athleti c and leadership development of each student-athlete. This has evolved into the Conference’s mission of “Developing Leaders Through Athleti cs.” The Big South Conference was formed on August 21, 1983, when Charleston South-ern (then Bapti st College) Athleti c Director Howard Bagwell and Augusta President George Christenberry began recruiti ng members into the Big South, receiving initi al commitments from Augusta, Charleston Southern, Campbell, Coastal Carolina and Winthrop. One month later, Dr. Edward M. Singleton was selected as the League’s fi rst Commissioner and conti nued to solicit new members. His eff orts led to the addi-ti ons of Armstrong State, Radford and UNC Asheville, giving the Big South more than the required six members to consti tute an offi cial conference. The Big South’s fi rst year of competi ti on was in the Fall of 1984, and in September 1986, the Big South Conference was granted full-fl edged NCAA Division I status. During its infancy and prior to securing automati c bids to NCAA Championships, the Big South made early strides in earning at-large berths in several nati onal postsea-son events, including volleyball, women’s basketball and women’s golf. In 1989, George F. “Buddy” Sasser replaced the reti ring Dr. Singleton as Commissioner, and in 1990, the League received its fi rst automati c bid – receiving an automati c qualifi er to the NCAA Baseball Championship. Under Sasser’s seven years of leadership, the Conference implemented its public relati ons and compliance pro-grams, and introduced its fi rst-ever men’s basketball television package, featuring the Big South competi ng among some of the fi nest teams in the nati on. In August 1996, Kyle B. Kallander replaced Sasser as the League’s third Commissioner, and in his 13 years
at the helm of the Big South, Kallander has been instrumental in aggressively promoti ng the Conference to new levels. The Confer-ence has enjoyed record levels in marketi ng revenue during the past several years, he has brought television coverage to Big South women’s basketball, baseball and soft ball for the fi rst ti me in Conference history, as well as increased nati onal television exposure to the League as a whole through aggressive and unique television packages. Under Kallander’s leadership, the Big South developed and initi ated its fi rst long-range strategic plan, re-affi rming the League’s vision as a disti ncti ve athleti c Con-ference committ ed to the quality of insti tu-ti onal life through athleti c competi ti on. He also spearheaded the eff orts to add football as a championship sport, which came to fruiti on in 2002, and has solidifi ed Confer-ence membership with the additi ons of High Point, Gardner-Webb and Presbyterian, and in 2011-12, the return of charter member Campbell University. Kallander’s long range vision has also included technological ad-vancements, as the Conference introduced its fi rst live event video streaming in 2005 and has since expanded its video off erings to more than 600 events annually through a partnership with the member insti tuti ons, as well as the creati on of several online and social media platf orms.
In the last 15 years alone, the Big South Conference has experienced monumental growth and success in nearly every sport. During this ti me, the Conference has had two individual Nati onal Champions, more than 200 All-Americans, has reached the “Sweet 16” in men’s soccer, women’s bas-ketball and baseball, has received nati onal Top 25 rankings in men’s soccer, men’s bas-ketball, women’s basketball, baseball, men’s outdoor track & fi eld, and men’s golf, had an individual selected to play in the NCAA Singles Championship four ti mes in additi on to the fi rst men’s tennis doubles at-large selecti on, had the No. 1 ranked men’s golfer in the country, has had the nati on’s top scoring men’s basketball team three con-secuti ve years as well as the nati onal men’s basketball scoring leader twice, received an at-large playoff berth in the Football Championship Subdivision in 2006, and had an insti tuti on fi nish fi ft h in the NCAA Men’s Golf Championships – the Conference’s highest-ever team fi nish in an NCAA event. In 2006-07 alone, the Big South was the only Conference nati onwide to have an at-large parti cipant in the football playoff s (Coastal Carolina), a team in the Second Round of the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tour-nament (Winthrop) and a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Baseball Regionals (Coastal Carolina). In fact, Coastal Carolina’s baseball program
has been a No. 1 seed three out of the last fi ve years, while its FCS playoff berth in 2006 came in just the fi ft h-year of the Big South’s football existence. The Conference’s tagline, “Devel-oping Leaders Through Athleti cs” was unveiled in 2008-09 in conjunc-ti on with the Conference’s 25th An-niversary. The League also honored its heritage with the Top 25 “Best of the Best” moments in League history from 1983-2008, with Lib-erty University’s 10-year women’s basketball championship run from 1996-2007 being crowned the No. 1 moment in the Big South’s fi rst 25 years. The Conference’s on-fi eld accomplishments have been dupli-cated in the classroom. Annually, more than 40 percent of Confer-ence student-athletes are named to the Big South’s Presidenti al Honor Roll for maintaining a cumulati ve 3.0 grade-point average, and the League has had more than 95 Aca-demic All-Americans in its quarter-century of existence.

In recent years, he had assumed more and more of the re-sponsibility for the day-to-day management of the

organizati on from his father who, along with the Lib-erty University Board of Trustees, named him Vice-Chancellor of the University in 2003. He has served on Liberty’s Board of Trustees since 2000. Falwell, Jr. has also played a key role in the devel-opment of the real estate in the vicinity of Liberty University through the recruitment of many nati onal retail and restaurant chains to the area. These devel-opments have greatly enriched the lifestyle of the University community. Falwell, Jr. is a member of the Board of Directors and the Executi ve Committ ee of the Lynchburg Regional Chamber of Commerce and was named as the 2006 Business Person of the Year for western Virginia by the Blue Ridge Business Jour-nal.

dencies of private Christi an colleges, Executi ve Vice President of the Washington Times, Executi ve Vice President of the Moral Majority, President of Jerry Falwell Ministries, President of Liberty Broadcast Network, President of Liberty University Founda-ti on and more recently, Dean of the Helms School of Government and Senior Administrator of Residen-ti al Recruiti ng. Dr. Godwin received his B.A. from Bob JonesUniversity, his M.S. from Old Dominion University and his Ph.D. in Post-Secondary Planning and Man-agement from Florida State University. Dr. Godwin and his wife, Carol Stanley Godwin, are members of Thomas Road Bapti st Church and both serve on the board of the Liberty Godparent Home. They currently reside in Forest with Dr. God-win’s 99-year old father, Mr. Jacob M. Godwin.
DR. JERRY FALWELLLIBERTY UNIVERSITY FOUNDER AND FORMER CHANCELLOR (1933-2007)
At the age of 22, having just gradu-ated from college in June 1956, Jerry Fal-well returned to his hometown of Lynch-burg, Va., and started Thomas Road Bapti st
Church with 35 members. The off ering that fi rst Sun-day totaled only $135. Falwell oft en said about the fi rst collecti on, “We thought we had conquered the world”. Today, Thom-as Road Bapti st Church has 24,000 members and the total annual revenues of all the Jerry Falwell minis-tries total over $200 million. Within weeks of founding his new church in 1956, Falwell began the Old-Time Gospel Hour, a daily local radio ministry and a weekly local television ministry. Nearly fi ve decades later, this Old-Time Gospel Hour is now seen and heard in every American home and on every conti nent except Antarcti ca. Through the years, over three million persons have communi-cated to the Falwell ministries they received Christ as Lord and Savior as a result of this radio and television ministry. In 1967, Falwell implemented his vision to build a Christi an educati onal system for evangelical youth. He began with the creati on of Lynchburg Christi an Academy, a Christ-centered, academically-excellent, fully-accredited Christi an day school, providing kin-dergarten, elementary and high school.
In 1971, Liberty University was founded. Today, over 41,000 students from 50 states and 80 nati ons att end this accredited, liberal arts Christi an universi-ty. Falwell’s dream has become a reality. A pre-school child can now enter the school system at age three, and 20 or more years later, leave the same campus with a Ph.D., without ever sitti ng in a classroom where the teacher was not a committ ed follower of Jesus Christ. Falwell was also publisher of the Nati onal Liberty Journal, a monthly newspaper which is read by over 200,000 pastors and Christi an workers, and the Fal-well Confi denti al, a weekly e-mail newslett er to over 500,000 pastors and Christi an acti vists. In June 1979, Falwell organized the Moral Major-ity, a conservati ve politi cal lobbying movement which the press soon dubbed the “Religious Right.” During the fi rst two years of its existence, the Moral Major-ity att racted over 100,000 pastors, priests and rabbis and nearly seven million religious conservati ves who mobilized as a pro-life, pro-family, pro-Israel, and pro-strong nati onal defense lobbying organizati on.The Moral Majority chose California Governor Ron-ald Reagan as “their candidate” for President in 1980, registered millions of new voters, and set about to in-form and acti vate a sleeping giant - 80 million Ameri-cans committ ed to faith, family and Judeo-Christi an values. With the impetus of the newly organized MoralMajority, millions of people of faith voted for the fi rst ti me in 1980 and helped elect Ronald Reagan and many conservatve congressmen and senators. Since 1979, about 30% of the American electorate has been identi fi ed by media polls as the “Religious Right”. Most recent major media surveys have acknowledged these “faith and values” voters re-elected George W. Bush in November 2004.
Though perhaps bett er known outside Lynchburg for politi cal acti vism, Jerry Falwell’s personal sched-ule confi rmed his passion for being a pastor and a Christi an educator. He oft en stated his heartbeat was for training young people for every walk of life.Falwell, who went home to be with the Lord at theage of 73 on May 15, 2007, was married to Macel for 49 years and they have three grown children and eight grandchildren.

JEFF BARBERDIRECTOR OF ATHLETICS
Jeff Barber was named the Direc-tor of Athleti cs atLiberty University on Jan. 23, 2006, becoming the10th Director of Athleti cs inthe history of theUniversity. The University
has charged Barber with the future leadership of the athleti cs department and the building of a strong fi nancial basis for the department which will guide Liberty University athleti cs into the ranks of the elite NCAA Division I athleti c pro-grams in the nati on. Barber wasted litt le ti me making an impact at Liberty, as in three years he has been instrumental in guiding Liberty on a path to the next level of collegiate athleti cs. He has spearheaded athleti cs facility improve-ment projects in every athleti cs venue, high-lighted by changes to Williams Stadium, the Vines Center, Worthington Stadium and new Osborne Stadium. During the summer of 2006, the football program’s on-campus playing facility received the latest in playing surfaces as FieldTurf was installed, while numerous other smaller projects were initi -ated to aestheti cally improve the appearance ofthe facility. Barber has also engineered the addi-ti on of the brand new Daktronics video score-board located in the North end zone and the fi rst expansion in seati ng capacity at Williams Stadium, bringing permanent seati ng to 15,052 just prior to the 2009 football season. However, Barber’s chief facility accomplishment since joining the Flames in 2006 was overseeing the completi on of the Williams Football Operati ons Center. The 48,000-square foot state-of-the-art home base for the football program is one of the most outstanding FCS (formerly I-AA) football-only fa-
ATHLETIC ADMINISTRATIONciliti es in the nati on. In additi on to Barber’s athlet-ics facility achievements, the Director of Athleti cs has spurred a dramati c recording-setti ng increase in Flames Club memberships and season ti cket sales for football and basketball. In 2007-08 the athleti cs booster club set new re-cords, pulling in $351,000 in annual membership contributi ons. The same year saw Liberty Athleti cs surpass the $1 million mark in giving, as the Flames Club brought in $1.3 million in total capital gift s. It was another banner year for the athleti cs booster club in 2008-09 as member growth has ballooned to 1,537 members contributi ng $382,000, with $2.2 million in capital gift s to construct new or improve existi ng faciliti es. Also under Barber marketi ng/sponsorship revenue has increased at 150 percent each of the past three years. Barber has also guided the Flames to success on the athleti cs fi eld of competi ti on, highlighted by the back-to-back Big South Sasser Cup championships, bringing Liberty’s total to seven. Liberty won 10 teamchampionships during the 2007-08 campaign, includ-ing eight Big South ti tles, an NCAA East Regionalchampionship in wrestling and an IC4A outdoor ti tle in men’s track and fi eld. Liberty followed up capturingseven team championships during the 2008-09 year, including six Big South ti tles and its third straight NCAA East Regional wrestling championship. Besides the Sasser Cup championships, Barber alsosaw Liberty bring home the Big South’s Men’s All-Sport and Women’s All-Sport trophies, along with its second individual nati onal championship when Josh McDougal crossed the fi nish line fi rst at the 2007 NCAA Cross Country nati onal championship. Liberty also repeated in capturing the Big South’s Men’s All-Sport trophy in 2009. Liberty is only the second athleti cs department in Big South history to win the Sasser Cup, Men’s All-Sport and Women’s All-Sport trophies in the same year. The Flames’ success has garnered nati onal at-tenti onon several levels, earning Barber a four-year appointment to the NCAA’s Recruiti ng Cabinet, begin-ning with the 2008-09 academic year. Barber is also on numerous other committ ees, including a four-year
appointment on the NCAA Division I FCS ADA Execu-ti ve Committ ee, Big South Conference chair for the league’s Television Development Committ ee and the liaison for the Men’s Basketball Committ ee. Barber also sits on the Big South committ ees for football, vol-leyball, publicity and promoti on, while he also took part in the Big South Conference 25th Anniversary celebrati on committ ee. Barber is a member of NACDA and NAAD and serves on the Board of Directors for the Child Evan-gelism Fellowship for Central Virginia, and also on the Board of Directors for the Fellowship of Christi an Ath-letes. Barber brought a wealth of experience in the areas of athleti c fundraising and administrati on to LibertyUniversity, including 25 previous years in the athleti cindustry. Barber came to Liberty aft er spending 11 years atSouth Carolina, including his last three years as SeniorAssociate Athleti c Director for Development/Game-cock Club Executi ve Director. Barber served on the senior management team atSouth Carolina for nine years, helping raise more than$14 million annually, while working closely withlegendary football coaches Lou Holtz and Steve Spur-rier. Barber supervised the solicitati on and receipt of over $85 million during his tenure at South Carolina, setti ng records each year in annual gift s to the Game-cock Club, which was at 16,500 members when he fi nished. He was also responsible for all major gift s to the Gamecock Club which exceeded $15,000 annually and developed that level of giving from 21 members to 137 at his ti me of departure. Barber joined the athleti cs department at SouthCarolina in 1996 as an Assistant Athleti c Director forDevelopment and was promoted to Associate Athleti cDirector/Gamecock Club Executi ve Director in 1999.Prior to his days at South Carolina, Barber served fi veyears at Furman in Greenville, S.C., starti ng as Execu-ti ve Director of the Paladin Club in 1991, before beingpromoted to Senior Associate Athleti c Director forExternal Aff airs in 1994.
