What is NSBW? The School Breakfast Program makes

it possible for all school children in the United States to receive a nutritious breakfast every school day. National School Breakfast Week (NSBW) was launched in 1989 to raise awareness of the availability of the School Breakfast Program (SBP) to all children.

NSBW is scheduled for March 6-10, 2017, but you can celebrate whenever is most convenient for you and your staff!

NSBW provides a great platform to share important facts with your audiences such as:

• SBP meals meet federal dietary guidelines

• It’s a healthy and affordable way for kids to start the day

• There is an established link between eating breakfast and academic success

School Breakfast Challenge

National School Breakfast Week (NSBW) is March 6-10, 2017. The 2017 NSBW theme, “Take the School Breakfast Challenge” encourages students, staff and school officials \to increase their participation in school breakfast. This week highlights how eating a nutritious breakfast helps students fuel up for success in the classroom and beyond. The resources in this toolkit will help you reach different audiences and your NSBW goals.

As you know, school nutrition programs play a critical role in ensuring all students receive a healthful breakfast. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, schools are in a unique position to promote healthy eating and help ensure appropriate food and nutrient intake among students1

New to this year’s toolkit are punch cards. These cards have been developed specifically for #NSBW17 (this year’s hashtag). Provide students with one punch each day when they purchase at least one breakfast item. The goal is to get all five punches throughout the week to be eligible for a raffle (to be determined by each school). Visit www.schoolnutrition.org/NSBW to download the cards.
