Last year’s LAPN Sprint brought out some of the fastest hors-es in Louisiana. In the end it was Thomas Galvin’s Su Casa G Casa who scored a ¾-length victory under jockey Miguel Mena. Su Casa G Casa’s time of 57.44 for five furlongs turned out to be the fastest clocking of the season at that distance. The stakes record time for the LAPN Sprint was established in 2011 when My Star Runner stopped the timer in 57.08. My Star Runner was also ridden by Mena.

Heavy On Themister became the first horse other than Star Guitar to win the LAPN Championship since 2008 when he romped by 5-1/2 lengths in 2013 under nationally prominent jockey Rosie Napravnik. Heavy On Themister will have his work cut out for him if he is to break Star Guitar’s record of four consecutive LAPN wins and over $1.7 million in career earnings, which is an all-time record for a horse bred in the Bayou State.

Christine G. Hardy’s Hit the Road Lee won a pair of stakes races at Delta Downs last year including the LAPN Gentlemen Starter and the Fremont Stakes. Overall he won four of six starts during the 2012-13 season. Under jockey Joe Patin, Jr., Hit the Road Lee led every step of the way in the Gentlemen before hitting the finish line 8-1/4 lengths in front of race favorite Silent Pipe. His time of 1:43.53 was the fastest of the season for the 1 1/16-mile distance.

Fjr Bread N Butter set a new stakes record time of 17.140 for 350 yards while winning last year’s Lee Berwick Futurity under jockey Martin Rubalcava. The 2013 Lee Berwick Futurity carried the largest purse for a Quarter Horse race in track history at $551,055.

Zupers Quick Dash capped off an incredible season in 2013 with a victory in the $100,000 Louisiana Classic on Louisi-ana Showcase Night. In all, Zupers Quick Dash won three stakes races during season. In addition to the Louisiana Classic where he set a new track and stakes record, he also won the Vals Fortune and the John Alleman Memorial Stakes.

After setting a stakes record while winning the Louisiana Purchase Stakes on May 24, Fast Talkin Henry scored another im-pressive victory in the $148,260 Delta Downs Derby on Louisiana Showcase Night last year. Fast Talkin Henry went over the $200,000 mark in career earnings with his exploits in the Delta Down Derby. John Hamilton rode Fast Talkin Henry in both of his stakes wins last season.
