Congratulations to our fifth grade graduates!
Love of Learning
This year's Science Olympiad team consisted of sixteen 3rd and 4th graders. Each student duo had to become experts in 3 different areas of scientific inquiry and face off against elementary students across eastern Tennessee. We are very proud of the effort, teamwork, and sports-manship that these budding young scientists showed!
Joy of Service
Third graders are partnering with McKamey Animal Cen-ter to begin the “Paws and Read” program. Next school year, students will visit the shelter monthly to read to the dogs. Students gain from reading practice and dogs bene-fit from the calm and comfort of a child’s reading voice.
A Lively Faith
Fifth graders enjoyed their last week of school together at Kanuga’s Mountain Trail Outdoor School. It was a great week of outdoor adventure, learning, and bonding of friendships!

THE TABLE is a group of young and young-at-heart adults who gather on Sun-day mornings to discuss the Bible and Christian spirituality as it applies to every-day life. We search for and celebrate the presence of God in our everyday lives through sharing our “God Sightings,” while we help each other navigate the chal-lenges that we find along the way. We use the Animate series on Faith and the Bible as the starting point for lively discussions on living our faith in the modern world. Recently we’ve begun plan-ning off-site activities: we experienced the Stations of the Cross together and also hiked with our families. [Thanks to The Table for this month’s beautiful cover photo!] We look forward to more fellowship and fun in the future! Our social events are open to anyone, so even if you can’t join us on Sunday morning, feel free to partic-ipate in any of our events. Children are always welcome, too. The Table meets from 10:00 to 10:50 (ish) a.m. in the Conference Room off the corridor that runs from the Narthex to the School Library. We’d love for you to join us and get fed at The Table! For more information, contact James & Bylinda Bell at 870-1755 or [email protected].

A Note from Christian Ed Director, Linda Cooper
All of the adult Sunday school classes have decided to continue to meet throughout the summer months. This includes Book Club, The Table, and Spiritual Explorations. I plan to have Sunday school for the children in June and August, but will be out of town for most of July. We will also suspend breakfast during the month of July unless someone wants to assume that responsibility. Please let me know if you are interested.
Thank you to all those who have made our Christian Education program a success this year: Susan Self and the Rev. Valerie Carnes for the Book Club; Richard Smith and Jaye Harris for Spiritual Ex-plorations; Sam Bowen for The Table; Betsy Beckham, Jaime Por-ter, Mark Porter, Chele Roberts, Morgan Howard, and Connie Roberts for helping with the children. Thank you all!
Please join us at WELCOME HOME, 400 S. Germantown Road, on
Sunday, June 5. We will begin promptly at 9:00 am with a communion
service and then start our work projects. We will be there until about
noon. Children are welcome. Come and help us serve others in the
community. Wear your work clothes and bring small hand tools if you
have them. Welcome Home is a hospice facility for the homeless.
Please let Ben Cooper ([email protected]) or Linda Cooper
([email protected]) know if you are coming. See you there!
"Church Has Left the Building" returns Sunday, June 5!

This summer will mark the fourth year that Matt Rog-ers has been involved at St. Peter's. He is currently attending school at the University of Tennessee where he is studying English and education in hopes of becoming a high school teacher. Matt says, “I can-not wait to get started and see what the summer may bring!”
SUMMER YOUTH STAFF
Mark Colbert is a native of Chattanooga and gradu-ated from Red Bank High School in 2012. He attend-ed East Tennessee State University and graduated with a B.A in philosophy. He is also commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Army. He loves video games, sports, and watching anime. Mark says, “I'm really excited about being an intern at St. Peter’s this summer, and I can't wait to get started!”
Ellie Pickett has attended St. Peter’s Church for the past 4 years. She believes that young people are the future and what we do with them really matters, so she has been working with young people for over 25 years. She has worked as a youth leader, volley-ball coach, Sunday school teacher, and middle school art teacher. For 8 years she organized week-long art camps at St Matthew's. She and her hus-band, Jack, and daughter, Winter, met Youth Minis-ter Jody Davis at Camp Grace Point where they were volunteer counselors. Ellie says, “It made my day when I was presented with the opportunity to help with the Youth this summer!”
Dear Parish,
I am writing to inform you that the Vestry, at the last regular meeting,
sent a letter to the Bishop asking for a meeting to discuss the progress of
our Rector Search using the “Priest in Charge” process. A meeting was
arranged and the Vestry met with the Bishop and Canon. The Bishop
gave his permission for us to search for a rector using the traditional ap-
proach, which takes longer and is more labor intensive. The Vestry held a
special meeting to consider whether to adopt this approach and it was
approved by acclamation. Until we get started on the church profile, we
will continue to use the “Priest in Charge” process as well, in the event a
priest shows an interest. We have also asked the Canon to look for an
interim during this time.
We are meeting with our consultant very soon to begin the selection of
the search committee. Please pray for your Vestry as we begin this process
to find a “Good Shepherd” for our parish. This is an exciting time for
us, but there will be many challenges ahead. I am confident that we will
prevail, with God’s help. Thanks to all for your attendance, faithful giv-
ing, and your prayers in these challenging times.
Many Thanks,
Bill James
