MEET THE NEW TACTICAL ASCENDER RANGE

Seven years ago Swedish Ascender Manufacturer ActSafe developed the T1-16 Assault Ascender with impor-tant input from Safe Tactics as well as top tier and world famous special operations units. Looking back we can proudly say we truly revolutio-nized Tactical Climbing and Rescue operations. We are proud to say our Power Ascenders are now in use with most special operations units around the world. Based on this success and the les-sons we learned over the years we will introduce several new models in 2016. The fact that we will mar-ket our products as TAGS Power Ascenders by ActSafe emphasizes the exceptional good cooperation between ActSafe and Safe Tactics (TAGS Systems).

Powered AscendersT1-16 ASSAULT - POWER ASCENDERRegardless of being onshore or at sea, in urban or remote locations; the state-of-the-art T1-16 Assault Ascender has been developed for tactical- and rescue operations under extreme conditions. These unique, watertight battery-powered Ascenders are almost silent and can ascend and descend at very high speeds. Giving you great tactical advantage, our Ascenders will not only make your operations more effective but also safer.

Instead of strenuous climbing a rope or ladder you just ride the rope! One hand operation ensures you are able to operate your weapon and lets you fully concentrate on your task. Once the first operator is on top the rest of the team can be winched up easily by using the remote control system.

The T1-16 Assault Ascender was introduced in 2010 and is now in use with many special operations units around the world. It has proven to be an ideal tool for many boarding and various urban tactical and rescue scenario's. With a battery capacity of 400m/1300ft this device is considered the "work horse" among our battery powered ascenders.

The rope grab is optimized for TAGS® Patron PLUS ropes but also works with other specified semi static ropes (EN1891A). The optional 9mm rope Grab is ex-clusively designed and approved to work with TAGS®

Patron Assault (9mm special Dyneema utility rope).

The T1-16 features an internal battery system and is optimized for diving ops up to 10m/33ft depth.

Powered AscendersTCX ASCENDER RANGEMeet the new revolutionary TCX Platform: super compact, lightweight and powered with external changeable batteries. The bi-directional "gas handle" (patent pend-ing) controls both up and down movement without the need of switching buttons. This unique new feature adds speed to the process by allowing the operator to act more instinc-tive and eliminates the need of extra push buttons. Ofcourse the TCX features a remote control option as well. The new rope cover makes rope leading even more easy than it is on the succesful T1-16. Its new design eliminates the possibility that the cover opens under load and offers better protection by covering the rotating rope grab completely.

The rope grab is optimized for TAGS® Patron PLUS ropes but also works with other speci-fied semi static ropes (EN1891A). Optionally the TAGS® Patron Assault (9mm special Dyneema utility pope) can also be used without the need of changing the rope grab.

TAGS magazine 7

TCX SEAL - POWER ASCENDER The TCX SEAL is the first ascender that is based on the new revolutionary TCX Platform: super compact, light-weight and powered with external changeable batteries. The TCX SEAL is designed for tactical, remote, urban & maritime operations and aims at top tier special operations units. Built for speed and watertightness. The speed and lifting capacity are optimized for one fully equipped operator and diving operations up to 10m/33ft depth.

TCX ASSAULT - POWER ASCENDER The TCX Assault Features the exact same specifications as the TCX SEAL except for the watertightness. The In-gress Protection Level of the TCX Assault is IP 67 (solid: dust tight/water: up to 1m/3,3ft).

TCX FORCE - POWER ASCENDER The TAGS TCX Force is the work horse of the TCX fam-ily. Designed for both active and passive rescue and lifting operations. The speed and lifting capacity are optimized to lift a fully equipped operator plus casualty with stretcher and medical equipment (or other 250kg payload); without the need to rig a pulley system. The TCX Force is ideal for rescues in remote, urban and industrial locations and military and law enforcement special operations where high lifting capacity is of the essence. The TCX Force is dust proof and watertight to a depth of 1m/3,3ft (IP67).

Visit www.tags.systems for latest information and learn how our ascender range is being used in tactical and rescue operations; in industrial, urban, maritime and remote area’s. Several applications are highlited for boarding ships and other maritime operations, for tactical ascending and descending and complex rescue operations. The possibillities however are only limited by your imagination.

Powered AscendersPME - PETROL POWERED ASCENDER The PME Power Ascender is a heavy duty lifting tool made for military and rescue professionals. It is pow-ered by a strong but lightweight 4 stroke Honda engine and best described as compact mobile winch that works with semi-static rope. The rope grab is optimized for TAGS® Patron PLUS ropes but also works with a vari-ety of other semi static ropes (EN1891A).

The PME allows you to work fast and efficient and it has proven to be a compact and efficient rope winch for vari-ous military applications.

It is a rugged lifting tool for hard work. Scorching heat or biting frost? It doesn't really matter; the PME does the job.

The PME is a lightweight alternative to other lifting equipment. An already high lifting capacity that can be further extended by a pulley system makes it ideal for lifting/dragging material and equipment. Since the PME is very compact and runs on unleaded petrol/gasonline this tool is ideal for extended use in remote locations or mountaineous area's.

Some applications:• Lifting or dragging equipment and supplies.• Installation of structures, antenna's (lifting).• Lifting explosives (EOD).• Disaster Relief/USAR (collapsed building: win-

ching objects).• Mountain rescue (crevasse rescue, long drops,

heavy lifting, etc.).

PMX - PETROL POWERED ASCENDER The band new PMX Power Ascender can been seen as a further development of the succesful and field proven PME Ascender. The big difference with the PME is that ht PMX features a descending/lowering function. You can actively ride up and down a rope or use it as a lifting/lowering tool (having it suspended on a rigging/belay point.

The PMX is very compact and runs on unleaded petrol/gasonline.

The new rope cover makes rope leading even more easy than it is on the succesful PME. Its new design elimi-nates the possibility of the cover opening up under load and offers better protection by covering the rotating rope grab completely.

The rope grab is optimized for TAGS® Patron PLUS ropes but also works with a variety of other semi static ropes (EN1891A). An already high lifting capacity that can be further extended by a pulley system makes it ideal for lifting/dragging material and equipment and difficult rescues.

These unique features make the PMX the ultimate rescue tool for prolonged -heavy duty- operations in remote locations (e.g. mountain rescue).

Some applications:• Lifting/lowering or dragging equipment and

supplies.• Installation of structures, antenna's (lifting).• Lifting explosives (EOD).• High angle rescue.• Disaster Relief (collapsed building: winching

objects).• Mountain rescue (crevasse rescue, long drops,

heavy lifting, etc.)

TAGS® ROPE AND LADDER LAUNCHERSTAGS® high performance pneumatic launchers are specifically designed for use in the toughest maritime and urban environments. They are extremely effective and easy to use in difficult special operations (diving, boat-based and land-based). Meet the most durable launchers on the market today. They are surpris-ingly simple to maintain -even in the field if necessary- and require only few spares to take along. The systems are very cost effective if used frequently and extremely reliable.

TAGS® COMPACT LAUNCHER MKIITAGS® Compact Launchers have been specifically designed for use in the toughest maritime, remote and urban environments. We can proudly state it is trusted by many top notch units around the globe!Operations around the world have shown that the launcher is extremely effective and easy to use in dif-ficult scenario’s (diving, boat-based and land-based ops). Based on operational (end user) experience we have implemented major improvements which led to our brand new MKII model.

SIMPLE TO USE Rather than designing products that look fancy TAGS® offers products that work! After building the first prototypes we thought “how can we make this product look more cool”. Soon we came to the conclusion that it would be better to keep things simple and robust. Using it in extreme cold weather conditions with unexperi-enced users we came to the conclusion that this was a very wise decision. The launchers are extremely easy to operate.

A compact rope container can be mounted on the left- or right side of the barrel and fits around 50m

(165ft) of 9mm rope (both left-or right-handed opera-tion possible). You can also fit both; ideal if you have to take multiple shots. The dedicated ladder canister fits a 20m/65ft FibreLight II ladder and is mounted beneath the barrel. No tools or difficult actions are needed to mount the canisters. You can easy mount them wear-ing thick gloves in pitch dark. Two simple rubber bands prevent the rope or ladder falling out of the canister. You can leave the bands when taking the shot.

The Compact Launcher is fitted with a folding stock that features shock mitigation. This ensures compact stor-age and transportation and mitigates the impact on the shoulder.

HOW SIMPLE...?Push the projectile in the barrel. Put safety catch on. The safety catch puts a 100% mechanical lock on the projectile and locks the trigger also. Rest assured we made it very reliable. Open the main valve to pressurize the pressure chamber (have a look at the gauge and pressurize depend-ing on the height needed). Then aim, release the safety catch off and pull the trigger. Thats all...

After a shot you can immediately re-start the process; just put another projectile in and shoot again. Depending on the pressure setting it is possible to fire 3-5 projectiles without the need to exchange the 500cc air bottle. No shot fired? Make sure the safety catch is on and release the air from the pressure chamber using the release valve. Remaining bottle pressure can be measured with a seperate bottle pressure tester (included in all SF Kits). The air bottle is fitted with an automatic valve and can be exchanged very easily in the field as well. Bottles can be filled using any scuba diving tank or scuba compressor. The filling assembly fits both 200bar/2900psi INT or DIN and 300bar/4350psi DIN systems).

This Magazine features an important part of the products and services we provide in the field of ACCESS. It is however impossible to cover all topics and information in this issue. Check www.tags.systems for a full overview, the latest information on products.

PROJECTILE OPTIONSThe Compact Launcher can be used to deploy a climbing rope, flexible ladder or towing line (to get a line from building to building, ship to ship/shore, over a canyon, etc.). There are two grapnel options available. Choose the right option based on your pre-operational intelligence. The SF Kit includes both Grapnels and a Messenger Line Projectile.

EXTERNAL GRAPNEL The External Grapnel is the first choise for edges and round bars. The projectile seals the barrel watertight so in diving operations the shot can be taken immediately when surfacing.

External Grapnel Projectile

FOLDING GRAPNELThe Folding Grapnel works best on (fishing-) nets, cables and (wire-) ropes. This grapnel almost com-pletely dissapears inside the barrel making it very compact.

RANGEThe range depends on the fire pressure selected and on type and diameter of rope used (see the rather optimistic specifications on the right). Of course wind or specific payload can always be a factor. By choos-ing the right pressure and angle you can pretty much shoot the projectile where you want it to be. With the Messenger Line Projectile you can also use the launcher to shoot a line across a canyon, ship-to-ship, building to building, etc.).

STRONG, DURABLE, EASY TO MAINTAIN AT LOW COSTHaving dealt with launchers for many years in both operations and trainings we learned that reliability is one of the main concerns. Even if used heavily during long training only a few very cheap spares are needed to maintain the launcher in perfect condition. Very cost effective if used frequently. The main O-rings can be changed in the field by every operator without technical knowledge. Even without any tools! It is built super robust. It will probably still work if you drive over it with a car.

TAGS® WORK & RESCUE LAUNCHERSOur new high performance Work & Rescue Launchers are powered by compressed air and specifically designed for use in the toughest remote environments. The new revolutionary design features zero kickback and is extremely quick and simple to use. The compact non-pyrotechnic devices are very safe, cost effective even if used frequently and proven to be extremely reliable.

TAGS® WORK & RESCUE LAUNCHER Our new high performance Work & Rescue Launcher is the ideal tool to cope with difficult operational work & rescue challenges. This compact non pyrotechnic device is powered by compressed air. No special storage, ship-ping or licensing is required and safe to use in an oil and gas environment.

EXTREMELY QUICK, SAFE AND SIMPLE TO USE The Work & Rescue Launcher is stored ready to use. Simply connect the mini bottle to the body (bayonet mount) and pull the release mechanism. You can fire another payload in seconds; just push a new projectile down the barrel, connect a fresh bottle and pull the release mechanism again. Bottles can be easily charged from a scuba bottle or scuba compressor (compressed outside air) so training is in-expensive.

The filling assembly fits both 200bar/2900psi INT or DIN and 300bar/4350psi DIN systems). Re-charging a bottle takes about 5 seconds. The mini bottles feature a pres-sure gauge so you can easily see if a bottle is charged or empty.

ZERO KICKBACKWorking with air launchers for years we have learned that a lot of users -especially those not used to work with weapons- are afraid for the kickback that air launchers usually have. Hesitating to pull the trigger; losing precious time during a rewscue or even missing the target as a result. The most amazing feature of this new revolutionary design is the absolute absense of any kickback! Simple handheld operation. No buttstock is needed. This also ensures that the launcher does not look as a weapon and making the design very compact.

A compact rope container can be mounted on the body. There is a dedicated one for the 4mm Messenger Line and a dedicated one for the 8mm NFPA Foating Throw Line. No tools or difficult actions are needed to mount or exchange the canisters. You can easy put a cannister on wearing thick gloves in pitch dark.

Some applications:• Swift Water Rescue: deploy a floating rope with

RIGID LADDERS, POLE LADDERS & FLEXIBLE SIDED LADDERSTAGS® Modular Ladder Pole System and Marine Boarding Ladders make under-way boarding vessels from a RHIB very easy and safe. In addition to these rigid ladders our flexible ladder range has been extended with the new TAGS® WireSafe Ladders. In this chapter will also take a closer look at our Fibrelight II Ladder; a complete re-design of the established Fibrelight Ladder. Exclusively for TAGS®.

TAGS® MODULAR LADDER POLESOur Modular Ladder Poles are designed for rapid board-ing of static and moving targets. The Ladder Pole is simple to deploy and climbing is very easy. The operator can effectively run up the ladder if necessary. If you need to transfer persons from the vessel to the RHIB you will find that it is also easy to climb for persons that are not as well trained as your fellow team members.

The Ladder consists of a Top Assembly, Bottom Standoff Assembly and in between you can add Pole Sections that come in two sizes. You can basically choose the right length for the vessel you need to board.Combining the modules to a ladder is safe and simple and can be done within seconds without the need of tools.

To prevent the ladder from accidentaly being kicked off the vessel by the RHIB at high seas states; a flexible sec-tion (Fibre Light Ladder) can be mounted to the Bottom Standoff Assembly. This modular setup makes it a very versatile tool that can be optimized for a wide variety of scenario’s. Ideal for urban operations also.

TAGS® FIBRELIGHT II ASSAULT LADDERSExclusively for TAGS®; a complete re-design of the es-tablished Fibrelight Ladder. Where the “normal” Fibrelight Ladders carry the load of one operator; this one can take at least three at a time! Built for heavy use by Special Forces and Tactical Teams in harsh condi-tions!

Lightweight, noiseless, non conducting, contains no metal parts and presents no radar signal. Important features that will put the ‘old school” steel wire ladder immedeately out of service.

The sides are flexible yet stable and the steps are rein-forced with carbon fibre rods; making it easy to climb (far more easy than the traditional steel wire ladders), durable, safe and strong.

With the design of several existing fibre ladders you have to be very careful not to rig the ladder upside down as the stitching could break and rungs could come off. This has proven not always to be easy in the heat of an operation. The new Fibrelight II design can be loaded in both directions! Very safe when the going gets tough...

BUILT FOR HEAVY DUTY MILITARY USEThe rung runs all the way through the sides of the lad-der so it can not be pushed out of its pocket (something we have seen with other flexible ladders).Built for heavy duty military use in marine environment!

JOINING FIBRELIGHT II LADDERSOne end of the ladder has a single attachment point for fast and easy deployment. The other end has two separate attachment points (three for the double rung ladder). You can use this side to put 2 ladders together. With the optional TAGS® Universal Connectors the distance between the rungs remains consistent. These attachment points can also be used to connect it to two (or three) seperate anchor points to rig it slightly more stable. The choice is yours.

TWO OPTIONS: SINGLE RUNG & DOUBLE RUNGAvailable in two versions: Single Rung 200mm/8in and Double Rung 390mm/15in widths. Rung spacing: 30cm/12in. All ladders are supplied with a black nylon carry bag.The optional TAGS® Ladder Standoffs make climbing easier when used against a flat surface.

BUILT FOR HEAVY DUTY MILITARY USETAGS® WireSafe Ladders are designed for extreme mari-time environment and are built to last. The Safe Work Load of the ladders equals 3 fully equipped operators. The ladders are supported by high quality stainless steel wires. The black anodized rungs are made out of aluminium aloy and feature a special reinforced core that guarantees safety when using fifi hooks and a diamond edged surface structure that ensures grip in wet conditions.

JOINING WIRESAFE LADDERSThe top ends of the ladder are long enough to be joined and clipped into a single anchor point. The bottom side of the ladder has two shorter ends. You can use this side to join 2 ladders together. With the optional TAGS® Universal Connectors the distance between the rungs remains consistent.

Ladders & Ladder SystemsRIGID MARINE BOARDING LADDERSOur TAGS® Marine Boarding Ladder has been developed for Military, Police and Custom’s Officers to board ships under way for inspections and rapid assaults. The ladder top hook, is simply placed over handrails or the ships outer kick plates allowing the lower section stand off to touch the side of the vessel. The sealed construction makes the ladder fully buoyant even in fresh water allowing immediate recovery if ac-cidentally lost (or thrown) overboard.

The heavy duty built ladder has a black Xylan high impact resistant coating which gives excellent protec-tion against corrosion, chipping and wear. The rungs are 270mm/11in wide and 50mm/2in deep and have projections in place to prevent slipping.

The Rubber feet allow the ladder to be used onboard the vessel as stand alone ladder as well. Due to this feature

this ladder has proven to be an ideal lightweight tool for urban operations as well. Available in 2m/7ft and 3m/10ft versions. CE-Certified.

Marine Boarding Ladder 2m

The flexible ladder extension is optional but highly rec-comendable at high sea states as it avoids the ladder to be kicked of the ship by the RHIB. The rungs are mount-ed on 4 steel wires and the rungs feature cross bars to make them extra strong and avoid severe damage should the ladder accidently get hit by the RHIB.Lenght: 1m/3.3ft. HOOKED ON POLES..?Boarding vessels, platforms and climbing urban structures is often very tricky and involves difficult manouvres. Our poles and hooks are being used around the world and have proven to provide effective means to gain access quick, reliable and safe. We have learned that intensive contact with end users, continuous product development & testing and using only the best materials are the key elements to succesful operations. Meet the latest technology.

TAGS® POLE SYSTEMS & HOOKSOur telescopic hook on poles can be used to quickly deploy a hook with a rope or ladder attached. Than gain access by climbing the ladder or rope -or bet-ter- ride the tope with one of the power ascenders featured elsewhere in this magazine.

In many cases a powered telescopic pole is the best option; super fast and extremely easy to us. Based on the circumstances in some cases it is better to use a manual pole.

All poles come in different sizes. If the pole needs to be super compact (and the target is not too high) we recomend to use our Roll-up pole; ideal for diving but also for urban operations!

In this chapter you will meet all hook on poles. Choise of the right pole, hook and type of rope or ladder is not always obvious. Based on our personal experience and having worked with many teams around the world we can help you with what is consi-dered 'best practice' for your type of operations. Tell us your requirements and we will come up with the right package.

Pole Systems: PneumaticTAGS® NARWHAL POLE SYSTEMSOur most important development in the field of hook placement is definitely the use of pneumatic techno-logy to extract the pole.

Utilizing compressed air, these systems are non-pyrotechnic, re-usable, and easy re-fillable. As the compressed air from the reservoir fills the telescopic pole, each of the segments fill silently, extending the pole upwards. Super fast.

The operator controls the extended length of the telescopic pole by regulating the flow of air with a gas handle. Any vertical increment within the height of the pole is achieved by engaging the lowering handle, leaving the hook at the intended target. Retraction is actively powered. Ensuring maximum speed. Both up and down!

Narwhal Poles are designed to deliver a grappling hook with climbing rope or flexible ladder for use in acoustically covert urban method of access and ma-ritime boarding operations. Swift, smooth and silent! Surpassing the performance of traditional windup- and manual poles by far. These systems may also be adapted to deploy covert surveillance solutions (audio- and video transmitters, etc.) or robotics.

TAGS® NARWHAL PNEUMATIC COMBI POLEThe first pole in this new family of products is the TAGS® Narwhal Pneumatic Combi Pole. The pole consists of 4 sections that can be joined in several configurations. Making it versatile for several applica-tions.

The integrated 2,2 liter, 200bar/2900psi air cylinder is fitted with an automatic valve and can be charged in seconds using any scuba diving tank or scuba compres-sor. The charge assembly fits both 200bar/2900psi INT or DIN and 300bar/4350psi DIN systems). If all sections are joined a full cylinder allows up to five extractions.

With the telescopic base section fitted the pole extends to 7,5m/25ft (height reach of 8,5m/28ft on land). The transportation is only 2m/6,5ft. Ideal for urban opera-tions or diving operations with strong currents.

A second telescopic section can be fitted on top of the first one. With a lenght of up to 12m/40ft and an

TAGS magazine 27

Pole Systems: Pneumatic Pole Systems: Pneumaticintegrated air cylinder the pole is optimized for diving and swimming operations. It can also be used for urban-, vehicle based- and boat based operations. If you want an "in between" size we added a rigid section to the package that can can be mounted easily to the telescopic base section. In this configuration the pole extends to 9m/30ft.The pole is made from aircraft grade aluminium and carbon fibre components. Shock absorbing elements in between the sections avoid noise when the pole is retracted. The operating controls are extremely easy to use in ex-treme conditions. There is one handle for extracting and another one for retracting the pole.

TAGS® NARWHAL COMBI POLE PACKThis versatile pole pack includes all sections plus integrated air cylinder (transportation lenght 2m/6,5 ft maximum extention 12m/40ft. ). The pole can be used in several configurations. The pack also includes the Access Hook, Flibrelight Single Rung Ladder (with connector), charge kit and transportation box.

TAGS® NARWHAL BOAT/VEHICLE POLEWinter in 2016/17 we will introduce a longer pneumatic telescopic pole that is optimized for vehilcle and boat based operations. Let us know if you are interested so we can keep you informed.

Pole Systems: Roll Up

Shoulderbag with Molle holds complete system

Simply unroll to make a very rigid pole.

TAGS® ROLL UP POLESThe TAGS® Rollup Pole Pack is the ideal tool for urban and Maritime operations. Its small pack size allows you to dive through extremely narrow pas-sages or stow your pole in a leisure day pack for covert operations. It is lightweight and extremely easy to use.

By throwing the roll on the ground holding it with one hand (or dropping it underwater) it “automati-cally” unfolds to a 5m/16ft sturdy pole. Fit the top adapter and the hook with ladder fitted and you will get instant access to 7m/ 23ft high objects (pole lenght plus body reach). We have included a 10m/33ft ladder to accomodate a little bit reserve (this comes in handy in many occasions e.g. when coping with current). As soon as the hook is placed just pull it out of its top adapter so hook and ladder remain. The pivoting release system allows control-lable freedom of movement when placing the hook and avoids that the connector pin gets jammed in the pole adapter. Although placing is very reliable and exact; detaching the hook remains extremely simple. Several hooks can be placed in no-time!

If the pole isn't needed anymore simply roll it up. As soon as you have finished rolling it up it will not unroll by itself.

The TAGS® Rollup Pole Pack 5 comes in a shoulderb-ag with Molle System, a 5m/16ft Rollup Pole (Black), the TAGS® Assault Hook with pivoting release system, a 10m/33ft Fibrelight II Single Rung Ladder, Rollup Pole Hook Adapter and TAGS® Universal Con-nector. Weight of this whole kit is just 6,5kg/14,5lbs.

The TAGS® Rollup Pole Pack 7 comes with an extra Rollup pole. The two poles can be folded together with an overlap extending the range by approxi-mately 2.5 meters (8ft).

Pole Systems: Hooks

TAGS® ASSAULT HOOKThe Assault Hook was originally designed for the TAGS® Rollup Pole but quickly became popular for use with Telescopic Poles and even for use without any poles (e.g. urban climbing over walls and fences). It features very aggressive teeth. The first pair is faced downward, the rest is facing inward. These teeth -in combination with a well thought through angle- ensure a phenomenal grip on the surface.

Firm, easy and secure placement! The pivoting release system allows controllable freedom of movement when placing the hook and avoids that the connector pin gets jammed in the pole adapter. Although placing is very reliable and exact; detaching the hook remains extreme-ly simple.

Two small stand off brackets prevent the hook from rotating sideways. If used as a climbing aid without poles the brackets secure a firm grip on the hook for your hands. The bottom hole accommodates the TAGS® Universal Connector. The Assault Hook is lightweight (0,8kg/ 1,7lbs) yet very strong. The maximum break strength of the CE-Certified hook exceeds 1000kg/2200lbs.

The Access Hook has been designed to work best with TAGS® Poles (compatible with both Telescopic Carbon Fibre and Rollup Pole) and we have found it also fits poles of several other manufacturers. CE Certified. TAGS® ACCESS HOOKThe reinforced box construction ensures this hook is re-markable strong yet lightweight. We have made it very durable so that it will remain fit for purpose even after long use in harsh environments (eg maritime). The hook can be used over a railing or parapet wall but it will also balance on its point on flat surfaces like roof tops or wide walls.

The maximum break strength of the CE-Certified hook exceeds 1000kg/2200lbs. Should the temperature hardened tip get blunt over time you can either sharpen it using a grinder machine or easily screw a new one on (considered consumables).

The pivoting release system allows controllable freedom of movement when placing the hook and avoids that the connector pin gets jammed in the pole adapter. Al-though placing is very reliable and exact; detaching the hook remains extremely simple.

UNIQUE TECHNOLOGY FOR WATERBASED OPERATIONSWith help of top notch units around the globe we are rapidly developing innovative equipment to cope with the ever changing threats and operational challenges. In this chapter we will have a closer look at three unique developments for maritime operations.

TAGS® BOARDING MAGNETSThe brand new TAGS® Boarding Magnets are designed for instant, super strong tethering in maritime environments.

Maintaining a specific position under water can be ex-tremely difficult. Especially when strong current occur. Permanent magnets can be used but the impact on the metal can be heard throughout the ship hull or structure and will certainly give your position away.

TAGS® Boarding Magnets can easily be switched ON/OFF and offer a covert and secure solution to attach yourself, equipment or devices (eg tracking systems) to a vessel or any metal structure. Holds up to 455kg/1000lbs (depend-ing on the thickness and the surface of the metal). At-taches above and under the waterline to both flat surface and pipes. Just place the magnet where you want it to be and turn the lever 180 degrees to “switch the magnet ON”. Since it is already placed against the surface the ac-tion is completely noiseless. The unit can be relocated or removed within seconds. Without leaving any trace.

TAGS® Boarding Magnets feature marine grade corrosive resistant coating and are equipped with positive locks. Available in 2 sizes.

TAGS® ASSET RECOVERY DEVICE (ARD)The versatile TAGS® Asset Recovery Device (ARD) makes it possible to recover assets from below the water line. Ideal to recover equipment that has ac-cidentally been dropped into the water whilst diving or during boat based operations.

Loosing expensive mission critical equipment to the sea might negatively influence the operation. If that is not the case it will definitely influence next years budget. The ARD features a bladder system that automatically inflates from CO2 cartridges. Its buoy-ancy will surface the equipment attached.

The deflated bladder is packed in a compact size bag that features several attachment options (including MOLLE System).

Inflation controlled by a sophisticated trigger system. The trigger can be set to any depth (up to 90m/295ft). Using this “depth mode” has several ap-plications. Set the trigger to a low depth for surface operations in order not to expose sensitive equip-ment to water pressure. During diving operations you can choose the trigger setting just below the deepest point in your planned depth profile. Which of course varies with the type of diving (eg scuba vs rebreather). The trigger is also equipped with a manual actuator.

The bladder is available in several sizes to accomo-date different weight lift options.

PROGRAMMABLE SUBMERSIBLE LIFE VEST (PSLV)Programmable Submersible Life Vest (PSLV) features the first automatic inflating vest available in three modes: Immersion or “Auto” mode, Submersion “Dive” mode and “Scuba” mode.

In Immersion or Auto mode, the PSLV is an auto-inflating Personal Floatation Device (PFD), and is virtually immune to wave splashes, heavy rain, and high humidity. While a wet environment will not set it off, simply immersing into the water will.

In Submersion or Dive mode, the PSLV inflates only when the user’s self-set time and/or depth triggers are exceeded. This valuable delay in inflation allows for the operator to:

1. Recover from a fall into the water when early in-flation is not desirable and could be detrimental

2. Save a sinking buddy3. Recovery from sink holes in rivers or swamps4. Time to escape a sinking aircraft or an over-

turned boat to avoid early inflation that might trap them.

The Depth trigger is valuable when the operator is faced with a rapid sink rate, which can accelerate as he descends into deep water. Even though the time trigger has not been met, exceeding the depth limit will cause inflation.

In Scuba mode, the user may stay underwater as long as the mission requires, however if he exceeds his depth setting, the PSLV will fire. This mode is use-ful in shallow-water tactical rebreather operations.

TAGS® BACKUP DEVICES TAGS® RED BACKUP DEVICEThe TAGS® RED is a simple, yet highly

effective back-up device.

The RED's non-aggressive Cams have a

positively locking spring, which means

that the device is self-parking (rather

than self-tailing, like many Ropegrabs).

This self-parking function is important

for Rope Access work techniques as

they stipulate that the back-up device

should be positioned so as to reduce

fall factors to a minimum.

The TAGS® RED makes use of 'Rota-

tional Breaking'- the more the device

rotates clockwise, the greater the build

up of friction, which provides the auto-

matic breaking in the event of a fall or

sudden pull on the Cows-tail.

To increase the effectiveness of the

Rotational Brake in a panic situation

(for example, a main-line failure), the

RED can be fitted with a 'Popper' tow

cord release clip.

SAFE TACTICS ACADEMY® TRAINING & CONSULTANCYSafe Tactics have been providing bespoke access training and consultancy for military and law en-forcement special operations since 2001. It started in the Netherlands but soon we found ourselves on the most remote locations on the planet. In 2010 we started to develop products together with Swed-ish ascender manufacturer ActSafe® and under our own brand name TAGS®. Based on field experience with our end users we noticed there was a lot to improve on the equipment side. Nowadays we are developing and producing high end access gear. We are proud we can state we are being supported by some of the most famous top notch units around the world. Despite a massive evolution on the equipment side we still value the fact that the best equipment still does not automatically lead to success. It all starts with the right procedures for the team and a well trained operator who has the essential skills to per-form the task in a safe and effective manner.Rather than training the operator to use a specific tool (eg Air Launcher) we train the team to ef-fectively perform a task (e.g. get 10 mnts of the existing boarding procedure and add safety by us-ing modern equipment). This unique approach has proven to be very successful for many units.

Safe Tactics Academy®

COMPREHENSIVE TRAINING & CONSULTANCY WORLD WIDESafe Tactics have been providing bespoke training and consultancy for military and law enforcement special operations since 2001. All over the globe. In Spring 2013 we decided to formalize this very successful concept and continue under a new brand name “SAFE TACTICS ACADEMY®”. Lets have a look what it’s all about and why it is so unique.

TAGS magazine 45

Safe Tactics Academy®

WHY SAFE TACTICS? Our mission in regards to training:• Follow all the international Health and Safety

(HSE) standards, directives and guidelines.• Latest technology and equipment on the market

being used.• Safety measurements are important but have to

be reasonable in regards to the job• Strong relation with field of operation (train to

the job).• All training is developed in cooperation with the

customer: tailor made and flexible• Trainers with many years of operational expe-

rience.• Possibility to implement training solutions on

short notice.• High quality standards: small groups and highly

qualified trainers.• Fair price / quality proportion.

SAFE TACTICS TRAINING CENTRE OR ON SITE Most of the courses are held in our purpose built 600m2 training centre near Amsterdam Airport in the Netherlands. TACTICAL URBAN ACCESS COURSE With the help of our extensive network we develo-ped a comprehensive Tactical Urban Access Course (TUAC). This is not about abseiling and making silly knots. The course covers the use of a wide variety of innova-tive equipment (air launchers, manual and pneumatic poles and power ascenders) as well as basic climbing skills and the use of minimal gear in urban environ-ment.

The first week we will build a comprehensive "tool-box" consisting of skills and techniques. This building block is organized in our purpose built training centre.
