Characterised by state-of-the-art weaving technology, refined materials and multidimensional colours, Tailor Made explores the concept of fine-tailoring applied to interiors. In doing so, the collection translates the particular sensation of well-being that comes from wearing tailored garments into spaces. Reflecting this, the curtains and rugs comprising the collection are ‘worn’ by interiors. Surprising and intricate, they consistently unveil fresh haptic and visual traits, as well as providing illuminating insights into the essence of the environments they inhabit.

Like tailored attire, the textiles in the collection act as a medium for self-expression. For instance, with the curtain Clique, press buttons in metallic hues are transformed into tools for sculpting shape and drape, according to individual taste.

Intriguing new interpretations of classic motifs associated with tailoring are a defining feature of Tailor Made. The collection forms a meticulous language from archetypal patterns in weaves and materials, such as herringbone, polka dot, argyle and pinstripe, as well as bouclé, cord and tweed.

In addition, Tailor Made offers a scale of sensuous structures and surfaces, which reference fine-tailoring. Ranging from transparent and airy to natural and dense, these engage in a lively dialogue with vivid effect yarns and special finishes.

Further building on the concept of tailor made, all the curtains in the collection gain a strong sculptural aspect when draped. They play with perception and highlight materiality: pattern fuses with structure; form is shaped by surface; colours unite into shades.

The colour concept for Tailor Made infuses the collection with exceptional versatility as it draws on mixed tones and refined palettes to unfold subtle gradations and fresh notes.

This evocative, nuanced approach to colour ensures the Tailor Made rugs and curtains can be combined in many ways while seamlessly adapting to typical architectural surfaces and materials. Notably wood, stone and metal.

The collection is designed by Creative Director Isa Glink and her team.

Claque  6859

Claque is a sparkling plain with a particularly fluid, elegant drape. It comes in a colour palette combining nuances that radiate vitality and more ‘silent’ tones. Woven with multifilament yarns, this versatile microfiber curtain is easy to use and care for. Claque is coordinated with and features the same ground as Clique.

Width 149 cmMaterial 100 % polyesterColours 12

Clique  6864

Clique features anodised press buttons in metallic notes that are integrated into a fresh, fluid ground, which is the same used for the curtain Claque. These serve to shape a contemporary ornament while acting as tools for sculpting drape and shape, to suit individual taste. Clique is coordinated with Claque. Width 140 cmMaterial 100 % polyesterColours 4

Broyd  6861

Broyd is characterised by a rhythmic subtle yet graphic pattern of irregular stripes. The fil coupé1 weaving technique used to craft the curtain makes the curtain’s voluminous bouclé yarn look like it is embroidered by hand. The three colours of the woven effect thread, range from light to dark neutral tones, creating a delicate interplay with the linen ground.

Height 315 cmMaterial 72 % linen, 28 % polyesterColours 4

Big Weave 6873

Big Weave, with its expansive rhythm of irregular dense and translucent stripes, offers a sophisticated take on the classic herringbone pattern. The curtain projects a strong sense of up and down movement and has a three-dimensional presence. This is derived from a special binding construction that uses a shrinkage yarn, which causes the vivid structure to emerge. Height 310 cmMaterial 100 % polyester Trevira CSColours 5

Cord  6851

Cord offers a sensuous new take on the classic material corduroy. To craft the curtain, vertical ridges or ‘wales‘ of flame retardant chenille yarn are interwoven into a contrasting base, creating an intriguing duo tonality. The use of this yarn also enhances the textile’s softness while delivering outstanding depth of colour, as the fibres catch the light in a multitude of different ways. Height 300 cmMaterial 100 % polyester Trevira CSColours 7

Cosmix  6855

Cosmix offers a vivid, sculptural drape and a chromatic, silky surface. The curtain derives its voluminous, vibrant character from a double piece-dying process, which adds extra depth to its intricate blend of polyester, cotton and metal yarns. A gentle washing process together with a special drying method completes the textile’s high-end expression. Width 140 cmMaterial 65 % polyester, 20 % cotton, 15 % metal Colours 13

Coo  6866

Coo is a fresh, white plain crafted to compliment Peek. It is made from the same flame retardant, cotton-like material. When the two textiles are used together they enter into a gentle dialogue.

Coater 6854

Coater is a piece-dyed plain with a vibrant, glowing surface reminiscent of finely glazed leather. Surprising in touch and look, it is created using pioneering coating technologies from the world of high fashion. Constructed with a blend of viscose and cotton, the curtain drapes softly and comes in delicately poised colours, which are neither pastel nor bright. Ease  6862

Ease captures the poetic charm of materialised translucency. Constructed with an extremely fine leno weave4, the curtain provides enticing glimpses through misty layers of soft gauze. In doing so, it offers a sense of secretly peaking behind the stage.

Height 320 cmMaterial 55 % polyester Trevira CS,45 % polyester Colours 8

Lino Lino  6856

Lino Lino unites two semi transparent layers of pure linen, connected by invisible monofil yarns, in refined contrasting shades. As light travels through the curtain, the layers merge with a subtle moiré effect, creating oscillating colour nuances and bringing out the light natural structure. Lino Lino is reversible.

Height 295 cmMaterial 100 % linenColours 7

Duff  6872

Duff offers a Nordic interpretation of a tartan motif with a light moiré and a complex jacquard2 double weave construction. The curtain explores extreme scaling and its impact on the shape and rhythm of spaces: it features stripes of giant checks that, due to their sheer size, are transformed into geometric colour fields. These are overlaid with delicate white tone fields, adding an extra dimension of subtlety to the design. Duff ’s soft hand and three-dimensional texture derive from the different properties of its mixed natural and man-made fibres. It is reversible.

Cross By 6870

Cross By is a semi transparent all-rounder. Crisp and three-dimensional, the curtain features fine lines of coloured linen threads interwoven into a shimmering, transparent ground. The jacquard2 construction, which integrates a shrinkage yarn3, creates a relief of intercrossing lines and irregular diamond shapes reminiscent of the classic argyle pattern.

Peek  6865

Peek brings a lively reinterpretation to the classic polka dot pattern. Constructed with flame retardant spun yarn that feels like cotton, the curtain features blade-cut dots, which are intricately stitched around the edges, using the same technique as for confectioning button holes. These form a refined grid which creates playful shadows as the light travels through the material. Peek combines well with the plain Coo.

Width 140 cmMaterial 100 % polyester Trevira CSColours 3

Moyo  6863

Moyo features a three-dimensional, graphic rendition of the v-shaped lines of classic herringbone. Constructed as a double layered crispy cotton, the curtain is crafted with a caustic print5. This shrinks the fibres, resulting in a remarkable density and feel that cannot be achieved by weaving alone. As the curtain is draped, the three-dimensionality of the pattern creates sensuous, rhythmic shapes.

Width 136 cmMaterial 100 % cottonColours  4

Loox 6860

Loox, exceptionally for a dimout curtain, has a refined, natural-looking surface. Strong and crease resistant, it is crafted with a 3-ply bouclé yarn, which comprises a core, a looping and binder yarn. Its bouclé expression is achieved through a sophisticated spinning process, in which the looser strand forms loops. A two-tone dying process infuses Loox with pronounced colour richness.

Width 150 cm Material 100 % polyester FR Colours 11

Regent 6852

Regent is a sophisticated plain with the aesthetic of fluid, translucent chain mail. The curtain has a subtle yet dynamic expression: cool, precious metal nuances consistently emerge from its transparent gauze, as the light and the conditions change. It is suitable for both contract and private use.

Spooler  6869

Spooler ’s delicately coloured surface and sculptural volume derive from a spun yarn, which combines cotton and polyester fibres wrapped by a fine metal thread. The curtain’s variegated lines in subtly contrasting colours come from the injection dying technique: here the dye penetrates the fibres in tonal shades, ranging from white to full colour. As a result, Spooler offers an exceptionally lifelike yet puristic and fresh play of colour nuances.

Height 295 cmMaterial 67 % cotton, 21 % steel,12 % polyesterColours 7

Stan  6867

Stan offers a bright, graphic interpretation of a pattern inspired by sports uniforms. It features a transparent stripe with an effect line that travels between boldly contrasting colour blocks. Acting as a graphic statement, this adds a vibrant extra dimension to the mesh-like ground. Stan combines well with Stanet.

Height 304 cmMaterial 100 % polyester Trevira CSColours 4

Sashi  6853

Elegant Sashi features apparently hand stitched lines reminiscent of haute couture. These contrast with its very soft and natural semi-transparent ground, which is woven using a high quality linen yarn with extra long staple fibres. Contrasting braided ribbon yarns are used to create its subtly lustrous pinstripe. This, together with a careful finishing process, which includes tumbling and soft ironing, gives the curtain a handcrafted expression that references classic tailoring techniques.

Height 320 cmMaterial 84 % linen, 16 % cottonColours 4

Stanet  6868

Stanet joyfully celebrates the spirit of high-end sportswear attire. Constructed from flame retardant Trevira CS, the curtain features a meticulous mesh construction. It comes in a range of versatile and accentuated statement colours. Stanet combines well with Stan.

Suki  6874

Suki combines a three-dimensional irregular pleat with a digitally printed faux crash integrating fine pinstripes. Due to the folds, the print does not cover the entire curtain. This creates white spaces that emerge from its surface. The intriguing contrasts between the graphic print and the delicate folds gives Suki a particularly multidimensional presence. Suki is coordinated with and features the same ground as Davos.

Width 115 cmMaterial 100 % polyesterColours 4

Teamer  6871

Teamer has a minimalistic, soft expression with a natural drape, and features a stripe coordinated with Tweex. The colour mixes in the curtain’s melange spun yarns chime with the character of tweed, expressing a scale of earthy, delicate notes. These range from moss green into neutrals and sky blue.

Width 206 cmMaterial 60 % cotton, 40 % linenColours 3

Straw  6850

Straw combines natural beauty and a sophisticated yarn construction to deliver a characterful, multidimensional presence. The curtain is crafted with twined yarns in two different colours in the warp, and more saturated notes of a melange yarn in the weft. As a result, it offers nuanced palettes and a heavyweight expression though its weaving construction is light and airy.

Height 300 cmMaterial 82 % linen, 12 % polyacrylic, 6 % polyesterColours 5

Toyo II  6857

Toyo II is a re-edition of a classic curtain from the Kinnasand collection. Crafted from spun yarns of flame retardant Trevira CS, it offers a sculptural expression of interwoven wide bands. Toyo II derives its exceptional dynamism from a complex double weave construction: the chalky natural notes of the spun yarn, which emerge from the denser parts, coordinate with the transparent monofil yarns that appear to be on its surface. This creates a three-dimensional effect that is most pronounced when the curtain is draped horizontally. It can be confectioned vertically too.

Tweex  6858

Tweex unites a rich, refined blend of natural materials to invoke the spirit of tweed. The design catches the eye with intricate yarn details and meticulous colour mixes of melange yarns in warp and weft. Crafted using a special finishing technique, the curtain combines the best properties of comforting, crease resistant wool with the freshness of linen. Tweex combines well with Teamer.

Scrap_CMYK is a curtain collection created by the Japanese graphic designer Rikako Nagashima for Kinnasand Lab. It comprises four designs and the plain base fabric made out of 100% recycled polyester.

With Scrap_CMYK , Rikako Nagashima takes inspiration from, and gives new life to, ‘waste’ test-print paper sheets and their accidental patterns. These are produced during the off-set printing process when fine tuning colours.

The collection unites the aesthetic, graphic expressions of the paper sheets into a digitally printed series of curtains, which are characterised by surprising designs and intriguing rhythms.

The marks left by the printing machines vary in intensity, depth and precision: some are virtually invisible or bleed organically; others are more clearly defined blocks and stripes. Curiously, this imbues the designs with an almost painted expression, as well as a particular dimensionality and depth.

The woven ground material for the curtains is made of specially developed 100 % recycled polyester, which is produced from used plastic bottles. This has a crepe-like character reminiscent of matt, sandy paper and chimes with Rikako Nagashima’s concept of transforming end-of-life into new life.

The colour concept for Scrap_CMYK precisely matches the inks used in the off-set printing process: Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Key (black). Each of the designs is solely linked to one of these specific colour settings.

Rikako Nagashima: “I often consider how I can use the concept of upcycling in my work, giving something that was once considered waste, new value. For this collaboration with Kinnasand Lab, I took scrap papers from various projects at my graphic design practice and highlighted the ink stains and print errors as a serendipitous design pattern.”

Rikako NagashimaBorn in 1980, Rikako Nagashima is a graduate of the Musashino Art University. She is a founder and principal of the design studio, village®. Her work spans graphic design, art direction, signage, and editorial design.

Rikako Nagashima’s aim is to question existing viewpoints by collaborating with clients and organisations, particularly dealing in the fields of environment, art, welfare, and culture. She also runs her personal art practice called “Human Nature”, which questions the relationship between humankind and nature.

Cascade  7220000

Cascade, a Persian hand knotted rug, occupies a space between pattern and structure, and offers extraordinary colour depth. This property comes from combining materials that express hues in subtly different ways – wool, silk and linen – as well as a washed finish and a rich pile. The new edited colour palette comprises powdery neutrals, earthy notes and subtle yet fresh harmonising colours.

Kanon is a hand knotted, hand woven rug, that fuses different contrasting colours, materials and techniques into one harmo-nious expression. It features an extremely short, hand sheared pile characterised by simple elegance. The rug’s subtle differ-ences in pile height, tactile velvety feel and contrasting flatweave are completed by a dense woven border. Kanon comes in a new colour palette which reveals extraordinary, timeless colour combinations, ranging from strong to more subtle shades.

Appendix

1 Fil-coupé is a weaving pattern made with additional, floating warp or weft threads. These threads are cut after weaving to produce various effects in colour, transparency and design.

2 A jacquard weave is created through a loom process, which is programmed to raise each warp thread independently of the other threads. This allows for more detailed, complex designs and large repeats.

3 A shrinkage yarn contracts to become smaller than its original size when treated. This has the effect of densifying the material and leads to the creation of vivid, three-dimensional surfaces.

4 Leno weave is a technique in which two warp yarns are twisted around the weft yarns to provide a strong yet sheer fabric. The technique produces an open weave structure characterised by exceptional resistance to yarn slippage.

5 Causticisation is a treatment with alkaline substances that significantly improves the fabric’s quality. The weave becomes denser and properties improve. The process also structures the surface.
