Executive Summary

The evaluation of the research paper tells that there is more strength as compare with the

weaknesses. The Strength of the research paper is mainly the clarity of the background and in

problem definition. There are many aspects which tell that the research is in right direction.

So I conclude that according to me article is well written and it is also very easy to

understand. Summing up all it is a very good research paper despite some weaknesses.

Introduction

The objective of this report is to critique the article Entrepreneurial inclination amoung the

international students in Dubai. Relationship between perceived barriers to Entrepreneurship

and Entrepreneurial inclination by Shoaib Riaz of SZABIST institute.

The evaluation of strength and weaknesses of this article is done by mainly focussing on

following three parts.

How well does the background lead into problem definition?

Basically the background of the research should describe all the aspects for the study that will

help out to solve the specific and immediate problem. Background study can be very vast in

nature but the researcher has to narrow it down to the specific and immediate problem.

The article is easy to understand because it background is very briefly and clearly explained

and it is also presented and documented in a efficient way. Due to that we can say that we can

say that problem is well defined _Strength.

Dose the background set the context and scope for the study?

Context and scope define that what are the area and boundaries selected by the researcher for

the research. As it is clear from above question and from the introduction that the background

has successfully set the context and scope for the study. And the background of the whole

article also explains that why research is being conducted _Strength.

Is the research question clearly stated?

Problem definition, as it is also often referred to a clear, precise, and succinct statement of the

question or issue that is to be investigated with the goal of finding an answer or solution.

(Uma Sekaran 4th edition). Once a research problem is defined, specific measureable

objectives must be developed (Zikmund 2003).

The research question is defined in a efficient way that (Entrepreneurial Inclination among

the International Students in Dubai--Relationship between Perceived Barriers to

Entrepreneurship Inclination)_Strength. The research objective is very clear from the start

that is to determine the barriers influencing the entrepreneurial inclination of graduate

international students in Dubai and there is a point that researcher having to find a positive or

negative correlation between the barriers. Which is according to me a broad topic? And

according to the Hallmarks parsimony factor should present in research. Which is missing

according to my analysis? Weakness.

How well does the literature review identify and discuss the relevant

conceptual and/or theoretical issues?

Literature review or survey is documentation of comprehensive review of the published and

unpublished work from secondary sources of data in the area of specific interest to the

researcher. (Uma Sekaran). The aim of literature review is to provide the background to and

justification for the research undertaken. (Bruce 1994)

In this research the literature survey is conducted in a efficient way. And the justify the

literature survey. Like definition of entrepreneurship clear state that what is entrepreneurship.

Strength.

Referencing style is very good _Strength.

Research design and data collection:

Describe the research design used (exploratory, descriptive, causal, or some

combination).Is the research design appropriate for the research

objectives?

A research design is a master plan specifying the methods and procedures for collecting and

analysing the required information. There are three type of research design exploratory,

descriptive and causal. The choice of most appropriate design is determined by the nature of

the research problem. Zikmund 2003.

The research design is co relational here. This type of study help in finding the influence of

one factor over the other or influence of one variable over the other. And this study also

explain the connector words like when, where and how etc of the topic here. Strength. Here

the dependent variable is entrepreneurial inclination while the independent variable are

Aversion to risk, Fear of failure, Lack of resources, Lack of idea, Aversion to stress and

aversion to hard work. These hypothesis are well enough and suitable also. And this can

answer all the questions. Strength. Although more factors can be included like time and cost.

Weakness.

Are the methods used to collect data (e.g. focus groups, questionnaires)

sufficiently justified and described?

There are two basic research methods for co relational research. Lab experiment and field

experiment. The choice of objective will depend upon the objectives of research method, the

available data sources and the urgency of decision and the cost of obtaining data (Zikmund

2003).

In this research data were collected by structured questionnaire to test the hypothesis. This

may be convenience to the researcher_Strength. Face to face interviews are done. The

advantage of that is researcher can collect data within a short period of time_Strength. So if

there are any doubts in the researchers mind he can clear it on the spot. The researcher is also

motivating the respondents to give their frank answers_Strength. Pretesting of questionnaire

was also conducted to test the validity_Strength.

Was the sample strategy appropriate?

A sampling strategy consists of five steps beginning with defining the target population,

identification of a sample frame, selection of a sample method, determination of sample size

and instruction for drawing the sample units from the frame (Lawley 2007).

The purpose of the research is to find out the barriers that influence entrepreneurial

inclination of graduate level students, so this research is a co relational in nature. The target

respondents are the graduate student of universities in Dubai. So convenient sampling was

conducted for is research. The total questionnaires which were distributed in universities in

Dubai are 150 through email and lectures. Out of that 60 filled questionnaire were received.

And 51 out of 60 were used for analysis purpose.

The target respondents were graduate international students in universities in Dubai. And

convenient sampling is used for this purpose_Strength. But out of 150 only 60 filled

questionnaire were received_Weakness.

Were the respondents treated with due consideration for ethical standards?

Many ethical issues are there in conducting a research, the respondent have the right to be

informed of all aspects of the research. Face to face interview suggests that researcher inform

all the aspect of research to the respondents_Strength.

But the researcher does not mention that how he approaches these universities and whether he

informs the respondents about their right or not_Weakness.

ANALYSIS AND INTERPRETATION

Were the data analysis techniques applied, appropriate to the research

objectives and the research design?

Numbers of statistical techniques are available for the interpretation of data. But the choice of

appropriate method of statistical analysis depend upon the

Number of variables involved Scale of measurement for the variable involved. Number of groups being compared. (Zikmund 2003)

The researcher have taken statistical test to justify the data collected is parametric (data which

is normally distributed) and is meeting the objectives in data analysis_Strength.

Are the conclusions presented in such a manner that it is easy to connect

them with the purposes of the study and the specific research objectives

that shaped it?

The conclusion is presented in well organized way and for any one it is very easy to connect

the conclusion with the purpose of the study and specific research objectives_Strength.

Does the paper link the findings to the literature review appropriately?

Yes the paper dose links the findings to the literature review. For example the fear of failure

among the graduate level student affects their inclination towards entrepreneurship_

Strength.

Is the author frank and thorough in presenting the limitations to research?

The researcher is frank enough in presenting the limitation of the research. In the paper he

admits that there can be some more factors that can affect the entrepreneurial inclination of

the students. For example students involvement in family business. So due to some other

factor all aspect cannot be explored_Strength.

Conclusion:

So the evaluation of the research paper tells that there are more strength as compare with the

weaknesses. There are many aspects which tell that the research is in right direction. So I

conclude that according to me article is well written and it is also very easy to understand.

Summing up all it is a very good research paper despite some weaknesses.
