Gati Dance Forum's upcoming annual journal that will address
questions of the body and the performative will feature
contributions by Swiss writer Rahel Leupin, and writers from
South Africa, Egypt and Brazil. Supported by Pro Helvetia's
liaison offices, this edition of the journal will focus on the
theme 'Strategies of Resistance'.

Cultural Exchanges (2017-2020)
A chance for gaming professionals from the region to attend
Ludicious Zürich Game Festival in January 2019. The video
game industry and development convention consists of a
programme aimed at providing exposure and skill
development for game developers.
Artist-in-Residence (Research) – Sonja Feldmeier, a
multimedia artist will observe and engage with the idol-
sculptors of Bengal. The artist is concerned with issues
like politics and constructions of identities.
Chris Leuenberger and Marcel Schwald will premiere
EF_FEMININITY in India at the Serendipity Arts Festival in Goa,
and two other cities. The performance brings on stage a
gender-diverse ensemble of four performers examining the
concepts of femininity, hyper-femininity and effeminacy.

Artist-in-Residence (Studio) - Performer-composer Marcel
Zaes will traverse through Bengaluru, Delhi and Imphal,
collaborating with local dancers and musicians, conducting
workshops and premiering his solo album ‘Pulsations’ in India!

Artist-in-Residence (Research) - Sarah Singh, Founder
Director of Panorama Punjab, a new international arts
initiative based in Punjab, travels across Switzerland to
explore possible collaborations for the next edition of
the festival.
Ceramic artist Jacques Kaufmann will present an installation,
and collaborate with Nalemitha, a traditional Lippan Kaam
mural clay art expert from Bhuj, Gujarat. Linking two varied
practices, this collaboration will see a new approach to
materials at the interface of ceramic sculpture and earthen
architecture.

Pro Helvetia has invited Nimmy Raphel, resident actor-
director and performer at Adishakti, Puducherry, to attend
a seminar at the Taipei Arts Festival. The seminar is a space
for intensive knowledge exchange between twelve
international performance practitioners.

Artist-in-Residence (Research) - Imran Nafees Siddiqui,
a theatre artist from Pakistan on a residency in Zurich to
experience contemporary theatre practices in Switzerland
and envisage future collaborations between the two
countries. Imran presently heads the Institute of Performing
Arts and teaches theatre.
Artist-in-Residence (Research) – Azizullah Hazara, an artist
from Afghanistan, on a residency at the Embassy of Foreign
Artists in Geneva. His focus will be an exploration of issues
faced by Afghan migrants living in Switzerland, and the socio-
political fabric and how these shift with the idea of migration.

Ruby Hembrom, Founder and
Director of Adivaani - an archiving
and publishing initiative - will be in
Switzerland to explore a range of
ideas on the crossroads of literature
and oral culture, and documentation
of these present in archives.
An exhibitory platform which runs
parallel to the Kochi-Muziris
Biennale, the Students' Biennale
reaches out to government art
colleges across the country working
with an experienced curatorial team.
The objective is to look at the
different art educational institutions
and tap into the potential of the
students.

Artist-in-Residence (Research) - Jana Jakoubek, Artistic
Director at Fumetto, Lucerne, back in India for the second leg
of her Research Residency. Travelling to Bengaluru, Chennai
and Ahmedabad, she will plot future collaborations in the field
of comic art and graphic novels for the Fumetto Comic
Festival 2019 in Lucerne.
Artist-in-Residence (Studio) - Cop Shiva aims to establish
a dialogue between the tradition of Swiss documentary
photography and his own practice, during his Studio
Residency. His works have been influenced by the principles
of the ‘Kollegium Schweizerischer Photographe’ that
indigenised a new visual language.

Swiss magazine Reportagen to carry freelance journalist
Sharanya Deepak's piece on journalism and reporting in
small town India. The pitch was selected after a call for
applications.

Artist-in-Residence (Studio) - While in India, Shirana
Shahbazi's lenses will scan the landscapes and motifs of
Delhi and Rajasthan before zooming in on Mumbai. She will
also lead a workshop for young photographers in Colombo,
Sri Lanka.

their style ranging from Baroque to
Future Rock, on a journey across

diverse European languages. Like
the previous editions, a Swiss writer
will be in the line-up too.

Laurence Rasti to present a talk
about her body of work and engage
with a community of young
photographers in Myanmar. Her
photographs question the notion of
identity and codes of beauty. Born
to Iranian parents, Laurence lives
and works in Geneva.

George J. Steinmann, an artist and
mediator who furthers the dialogue
about our living environment, will be
on a research-based project at
KHOJ. The second leg in Bengaluru,
in collaboration with swissnex India,
will include a talk by Steinmann.

Swiss jazz trio Gauthier Toux will be
on a three-city tour to perform in
festivals and clubs in the region as
well as give a workshop. Led by
French pianist Gauthier Toux, the
trio has developed a unique jazz
