Attendance
Well done to Class 4 for the best attendance this
fortnight with 98%
We will be carrying out the draw for 100% attendance
in February on Friday.
The prize for February and March
will be an Easter Egg.
Dear Parents,
Another half term has quickly come to a close. Pupils have
enjoyed learning all about Wales and have begun getting their
St. David’s Day performances ready to share with you on their
return from the half term break. Estyn will be visiting the school
on 6th/7th March and so the celebrations for St. David’s Day will
now be on Friday 8th March.
With a fresh start after half term, please can everyone ensure
that pupils arrive in school on time as we are experiencing many
latecomers recently. Registration opens at 8:50 and closes at
8:55. Please make every effort to ensure that your child arrives
on time to avoid receiving a late mark.
Wishing you all a lovely half term break.

School Uniform Please remember that all pupils

school. Governors have noticed that some pupils
are regularly coming to school in different clothing.
Please remember to use the school uniform bank
in the community centre to pick up some new
uniform if needed. Thank you.
Nursery – Mrs. Dawn Jones
We celebrated Chinese New Year by making red dragons, tasting
Chinese foods and playing with rice in the tough mat.
Valentine’s Day activities included, printing activities and making
jam heart sandwiches. The children listened carefully and
followed instructions. They buttered the bread, spread the jam,
folded the bread and cut out a heart shape. The finished heart
shaped sandwich was enjoyed by all and photographs were taken
for their memory books.
The children are enjoying the Pori Drwy Stori activities in class and
learning a new rhyme each week. Please return the yellow folders
each Monday so new resources can be added.
Lovely castles have been made using ICT skills and these will be
displayed with our castle display in class.
Class 1 – Mrs. Catherine Thomas
In English we have been thinking of adjectives to describe our dragons. The Year 1's painted a dragon and typed some adjectives on JIT Mix. We have been creating our own salt dough 'pet' dragons and added details with beads, feathers and various tools. In Maths we have been practising taking away up to 20 in Year 1 and up to 10 in Reception and sorting and counting coins. We have been learning about Fair Trade with 'Pablo the Banana'. Reception created Fair Trade posters and the Year 1's sequenced the journey of a banana and wrote about it. In ICT we have been finding out how to stay safe online with 'Smartie the Penguin' on Safer Internet Day. Reception created a song which you can view online. The Year 1's created a comic strip and as part of their challenges they will be writing instructions for keeping safe online. We have also been finding out about Chinese New Year and sequencing the Chinese animals. The Year 1's used the internet to find out which animal year they were born in.
Class 3 – Mr. Darren Richards
I can’t believe we are half way through the term already. The children have been working so hard over the last few weeks. They are currently editing and redrafting their non-chronological reports about their chosen wonder. In maths, they have looked at line graphs and have now moved on to pie charts and fractions. The children are all working so hard and it is a joy to see them continue to grow and produce some fantastic pieces of work. Keep going Class 3!
Class 2 – Mrs. Donna Davies
This last fortnight we have continued to practise learning about money, ordering amounts from cheapest to most expensive, finding totals and giving change. We have learnt about fractions of shapes and numbers. In Language, we have completed our group ‘Report’ about the Welsh Red Deer, using our notes, and then making it into a booklet. We have all started creating our own individual booklets about our chosen Welsh animal. In topic, we have counted the different Welsh animals, and then created tally charts, pictograms and graphs, using different increments. In PE and Welsh, we have been practising our folk dancing and songs for St. David’s Day. The children have spoken confidently about their projects
which they have made at home. Thank you for your
support, have a great half term. 😊
Class 4 – Mrs. Gaynor Johnson
Well we are coming to the end of another rapidly going term and the children have been busy conducting a survey of birds to send to the Big Schools' Birdwatch (RSPB). They reported seeing 97 birds!! Using their frequency charts they created pie charts and graphs to show their results. Some are becoming quite an expert using the protractor to measure out degrees! We have also begun sorting data using mode, median mean and range. In English, the class are continuing their report writing on their Wonder of the World and in topic their Wonder of Wales. They have also written postcards in Welsh from one of their Wonders, using the 1st and 3rd person in the past tense. Please keep
practicing tables! 😊
