Takeda Pharmaceuticals North America, a subsidiary of Takeda Pharmaceutical Company Ltd., Japan’s oldest pharmaceutical company, purchased a 70-acre tract of land for a new corporate headquarters campus in unincorporated Lake County, Illinois. The master plan calls for five linked office buildings totaling approximately 962,000 SF of gross leasable area, a day care facility, a remote delivery facility, and a hotel to be developed in three phases as the company grows. A two-day charette was held early in the planning with the design team, development manager, and ownership to develop a strategy for implementing the LEED criteria for the project. As a result, the master plan restores a large portion to the site to native prairie grasses and forbs, and implements various storm water best management
practices to cleanse storm water runoff and reduce the load on the local sewer system. The areas around the building perimeter are more ornamental in character.
Wolff Landscape Architecture, Inc. was the project landscape architect and a consultant to TVS Design, with responsibility for developing the landscape master plan, sustainable design principles for the full build-out of the property, as well as preparation of detailed design and construction documents for the project. Phase 1 (Buildings 1 & 2 and the first phase of site work) was completed in 2006 and achieved LEED Gold certification. Phase II (Building 3 and additional site and landscape development) was completed in 2010 and also achieved LEED Gold certification.
