Health Skills (Life Skills) • One way to evaluate your life skills is to ask the following questions:

1. Do I periodically evaluate the three parts of my health?

2. Am I making good decisions?

3. Am I setting & meeting my goals?

4. Do I use refusal skills when I need to?

5. Am I communicating my feelings?

6. Do I compare products & services for value & quality?

• Life skills work together to improve your health & wellness

1. Using refusal skills leads to good decisions.

2. Good communication can help you reach goals.

3. Making good decisions will keep you healthy.

4. Staying informed will alert you to the areas that you need to improve on.

5. Assessing all 3 parts of your health keeps your level of wellness high.

6. Learning to evaluate media messages & to comparison shop makes you a wise consumer.

COMMUNICATION STYLES Passive • Inability or unwillingness to express thoughts and feelings. • Example… passive people will do something they don’t want to do or make up an excuse rather than say how they feel.

Assertive• Standing up for oneself. • Example… assertive people will say what they think and stand up for their beliefs without hurting others.

Aggressive•Overreaction, blaming and criticizing. • Example… aggressive people try to get their way through bullying, intimidation or even physical violence.
