SPAMILTONSAT SEPT 16

ROYAL GEORGE THEATRECHICAGO IL

Created by the Forbidden Broadway mastermind Gerard Alessandrini, the hilarious musical mash-up, Spamilton celebrates, and roasts the Broadway blockbuster with a cast of five. It is distributed with outrageous references to other Broadway hits: Gypsy, Chicago, The King and I, Assassins, Camelot and Sweeney Todd. Not only are Lin-Manuel Miranda and the stars of the original cast of Hamilton comically “under the radar” but they are joined by caricatures of living Broadway legends: Patti Lupone, Audra McDonald, Stephen Sondheim, Stephen Schwartz, Barbra Streisand, Bernadette Peters, and many more beloved icons. There is not a single adult moment, and no curse words in the show. The Hollywood Reporter “You don’t have to see Hamilton to have side-splitting fun” -The Huffington Post “All that is required is that you love Broadway”. FOOD ON OWN. Time to eat before 5pm performance. Selection of nearby restaurants will be available. 20 tickets only available. Cancel by: Aug 14. Includes: Transportation /Performance. SUPPORT GROUP MEETING FOR CAREGIVERS, FAMILIES, AND ANYONE

LIVING WITH ALZHEIMER’S AND DEMENTIAS

TIME: 1:00pm to 3:00pmThird Thursday of the Month

At The Ceramics Room in the Club House

If you are caring for someone with Alzheimer’s or a related Dementia, you are invited to join our support group. Here in a friendly supportive environment you can participate in discussions geared toward the needs and interests of individuals who are caregivers, family members, or friends of someone with dementias. It is a chance to learn more about dementias and what to expect along the way.

Those with the dementia are also welcome if they are able to sit in the discussions and benefit from the group. They do not have to enter the discussions if they are not comfortable or able to do so.

Our support group is an opportunity to learn from and share with others who are experiencing the same situations in their interactions with someone with dementia. A support group helps individuals understand that they are not alone in their situation and that others do understand and can often offer suggestions that may help. And it is comforting to know someone will listen and understand.

For more information please call the facilitator ARLENE ALBERT at 815-744-6770.

Words to Move YouWe have a place, all of us, in this story;

a story we continue, but whose end we willnot see. It is the story of a new world that became

a friend and liberator of the old, the story of asociety that became a servant of freedom, the

story of a power that went into the world to protectbut not conquer. It is the American story—

a story of flawed and fallible people, united acrossthe generations by grand and enduring ideals. The grandest of these ideals is an unfoldingAmerican principle that everyone belongs,That everyone deserves a chance, that no

insignificant person was ever born.

George Bush

Carillon VFW Post 12059 will be holding a ceremony at Essington Place Retirement Village for all residents who are Vietnam Era War Veterans commemorating the 50th Anniversary of the Vietnam War. All Vietnam Era Veterans will be given a lapel pin and a certificate commemorating their service to this great nation during this war.

Carillon VFW Post 12059 made one trip to The Illinois State Veterans Home in Manteno, Illinois this past month with the donations from the Carillon Community. As always they were excited about what was brought to the veterans who reside in the home. Without exception they were very happy with the donations from our community and send their love and thanks for your thoughtful generosity.

Carillon VFW Post 12059 wishes to introduce to the community four new members of our post who recently moved into Carillon. Paul Chase of Carlisle, Debbie Leinweber of Applegate, Stanley Richard Williams of Dover, and Andrew Rivers of Canterbury all have recently become members of our post. The post is proud to call them brothers and sisters and welcomes them with open arms.

IN THE MIDST OF GRIEFThe journey of grief after loss is one of life’s most difficult experiences, but we don’t have to walk alone. If you are grieving the death of a loved one, please consider joining Carillon’s bimonthly support group for bereaved adults and discover the healing process within a safe, supportive and confidential environment. The group will provide time to share stories, process emotions, learn new coping skills and self-care practices. The sessions are facilitated by Carillon resident, Phyllis Girdwood. We meet the 1st and 3rd Friday of every month from 10:00am – 11:30am in the Craft Ceramic Room. Pre-registration is not required, but if you have questions, please call Phyllis Girdwood at 765-277-0031.

LOW VISION SUPPORT GROUPPlease Note: There will be no meeting of the Low Vision Support Group in July since the first Tuesday of the month falls on July 4th.

Please plan on joining us on August 1st for our next meeting. We have really great plans for future events.

This support group welcomes anyone who is experiencing low vision or the expectation of low vision. Friends and family are always welcome to join us.

HANDICAP PARKINGHandicap parking is designated parking for a person with a Handicap Permit ONLY. If a spouse, roommate etc. shares a car with you, and has a Parking Permit, but that person is not in the car when you come to park, please be considerate of others. Please take the permit out of the window and DO NOT park in a Handicap designated parking place.

Remember that we have “Super Seniors” and disabled persons who really depend on the closest parking spots in the lot. If going on a CAMA trip for the day, please consider parking further back in the parking lot so people with limitations can easily walk through the parking lot. We are a community that needs to be respectful of each other’s needs.

CRAFTY CRAFTERSI am the American Flag. I have earned the right to be heard. I will speak from the wisdom of life. Look at my face. I have known over 40 presidents. I have traveled far. I have lived long and seen much. I have paid the price for my freedom of speech. I have wrapped my arms around those who have died for me. I am proud of my country, preserve my dignity; you have the freedom to choose. Old Glory they called me, and I am the American Flag, under God, with liberty and justice for all. Happy 4th of July.

We’ve been busy, busy at Crafty Crafters. We donated over 50 baby items to the Carillon Women’s Club for their annual baby shower. 10 lap robes and 70 baby hats went to Presence St. Joseph Hospital. And, sadly, we presented 5 prayer shawls to widows in Carillon. And, we have a closet full of hats, scarves and afghans to be gathered and donated to nursing homes and charities.

Thanks to the nice lady in Cambridge who donated hats, slippers, afghans and yarn. Sorry, I didn’t get your name. Also, thanks to Norma Reed of Canterbury East who donated yarn, needles and books.

We meet every Wednesday in Club Room 2 from 12:30 to 3:00. If you are a knitter or crocheter, come join us. We will be glad to see you.

TEE TIMERSWe are the Ladies Tuesday morning, 9-hole, no handicap golf league. League play was to start May 2, but the weather gave us some competition with cold, wind and rain…it seems to be cooperating now.

We would love to have more golfers…if you would like to join us, please call president Connie Teckenbrock, 630-297-1813.

Have a great day!Norma Thompson

THE NEEDLEWORKERSThe Needleworkers meet on Tuesdays from 1:00-3:30 in Club Room 3. Anything you wish to create with a needle, the group does: knitting, crocheting, cross-stitching, needlepoint, sewing, some quilting, etc: Some have joined our group just to socialize, get interested in a craft and now have busy hands also.

The first Tuesday of the month finds the Needleworkers enjoying lunch at different local restaurants before meeting at the clubhouse.

If you are moving or no longer doing needlework and need to dispose of your “stash”, there are several groups that can find homes for your items, putting them to very good use. You can bring them to Room 3, (the Library) on Tuesdays, from 1:00-3:30.

If you are interested in working on any project that uses a needle, come join the group. Members have knowledge of many crafts and even though they do not teach, they will gladly try to help with any stitching problems. For information please call Sandie Denklau 372-0558 or Phyllis Taylor, 886-4789.

WOODSHOPThe machines in the woodshop are very busy during the morning hours by the men in our community. They are working on many items for themselves, making items to sell at Carillon’s craft fair in October, and doing repairs for the residents. If you have an item that needs some TLC, please bring it to the Woodshop during the morning hours to see if it can be repaired by the men. And men—if you enjoy woodshop and would like to share your expertise on Wednesday afternoons for 3 hours, the women’s group need additional instructors or helpers.

April 2017, the women’s woodshop group celebrated 12 years in existence. We have made many items for ourselves and for the craft fairs. If you are interested in joining our group, please call Sandie Denklau, 815-372-0558, or Sara Pittman, 815-372-0596. You don’t need any experience, just a desire to create something in wood with your hands. Our instructors are very helpful and anxious to share their expertise.

At the current time, there is a waiting list as we are in need of a couple more men or women instructors/helpers/monitors before we can add more members. Many women have been on the waiting list since May 2016 and are anxious to begin working in the woodshop. Won’t you please consider giving 3 hours of your time and talent each week so these women can experience the same joy you feel as you saw, scroll, sand, and then admire your finished wood pieces? Please call Jerry Pittman, 815-372-0596 or come to the woodshop Wednesday afternoons to see if this is something you would like to do.

Just a reminder: There are wood items in the hallway glass case by the Woodshop for purchase. Handmade items always make wonderful birthday, anniversary, and thinking of you gifts.

ANDOVERHappy Fourth of July!

Hopefully, your summer is going well.

This may be one of the shortest articles on record, as there is very little news to share. I can only write about that which I know, so please keep me informed if there is something “newsworthy.”

Due to the July 4 falling on a Tuesday, the Homeowners’ meeting took place in late June. Sorry, but I can’t fill you in on those proceedings until next month.

Remember that Debbie Centanni of the monuments decorating team will accept appropriate holiday/seasonal decorations for the two monuments. Please give her a call if you have anything, (815)545-5387.

If you are starting any type of outdoor project, you need to call Sharon Gomez from Foster Premier to start the process. Her contact information is (815)886-7576, Ext. 211.

Keep Margaret Sherpan in your thoughts and prayers. She had some health issues recently.

The Ladies’ Brunch is Thursday, July 13, 11 AM, at Southern Belle.

The Men’s Breakfast is Thursday, July 20, 9 AM, also at Southern Belle.

Until next month,Jeanne Garritano

ASSOCIATION NEWS

12 Talk of the Town July 2017

ASHFORDOnce again it’s time to put together the Ashford TOTT article so I ponder what information or news to write about this time. Certainly we have the good old standbys- birthdays, men’s and women’s breakfasts, and the holiday’s for the month. June was full of Carillon activities; the start of our team games, opening the pools, and a whole bunch of activity for the Weber Road Construction project.

Here it comes-- the 4th of July! The time to celebrate our independence as a sovereign nation. A time for picnics, parades, fireworks, and fun. I hope it’s a great day for all of our Ashford residents!

As I have solicited our Ashford residents for news items, I thought a bit that maybe I too should contribute a few of my own occasionally just as I have requested from you. Getting involved in Carillon is a good thing for us as a community. I’ve been busy doing that myself. I’m now the Chairperson for the Marketing Committee, the Chairperson for the New Comers Committee, a member of the Carillon Weber Road Safety Committee, the alternate for the Ashford Security Committee. I design the custom templates for the Carillon email broadcasts, post the Ashford HOA and Board meeting minutes, write our TOTT article each month, and contribute and assist on design work for the Carillon web site. I also spend my Thursdays doing volunteer work at Silver Cross Hospital. Don’t take this as I’m bragging or complaining, not in the least, it just keeps me busy, no pay, volunteer work! Maybe I’m crazy! (What can I say, I needed something to write about, I need to get this to 500 words!)

Happy Ashford Birthdays! Catherine Thomas 7-8, Karen Daehn 7-11, Helen Moran 7-14, Phyllis Adelmann 7-15, Michael Moran 7-19, Jeanne Zabelny 7-23, Michael Kennedy 7-23, Lydia Brown 7-24, Richard Thomas 7-27, Ginny Rossi 7-28, Theresa Bailey 7-30. I missed two birthdays last month for new neighbors that both had June birthdays – Happy belated birthday wishes to Mark & Karen Garbe!

Ashford Women’s Breakfast – July 26th- Blueberry Hill, Plainfield at 10AM. RSVP no later than the previous Monday to Carol Walsh (815) 372-1474 or Sharon Postil (815) 372-2109. Let them know if you need a ride!

Ashford Men’s Breakfast -- The Ashford men are going to meet for breakfast every month on the third Thursday of the month at 10AM. We will meet from January through October due to the Holidays in November and December. Look for details that will be included as a TOTT insert page.

As many of you know, our Ashford neighbor Marge Strauel fractured her femur on March 31st and had to go through a very difficult recovery. I’m very happy to report Marge is recovering and was able to participate in an Alaska vacation which started on June 8 with her family. Marge wanted me to send a big “Thank You” to all of her Ashford neighbors who made phone calls, visited, sent food, and showed her much care, well wishes, and support. I think we’ll all be anxious to hear more about Marge’s Alaska exploration!Send me your news items for TOTT- I just did mine!

Regards,John Overend

THE ELDERLY NEED SPECIAL CARE IN HOT WEATHERSeniors account for a disproportionate number of heat-related hospitalizations and deaths. Health problems such as heart disease making it more difficult to circulate blood properly and

dissipate heat: Medications, like diuretics, that cause water loss and worsen the dehydrating effect of high temperatures. Elderly suffering from Dementia or Diabetes may not even be aware of being thirsty or feeling too hot. SO IT IS IMPORTANT TO PAY CLOSE ATTENTION TO HEALTH AND WELL-BEING OF LOVED ONES, NEIGHBORS AND FRIENDS DURING EXCESSIVE HOT DAYS! AROUND THE NEIGHBORHOOD: Tom & Jeanne Kelsh had visitors in June, Tom’s two sisters from Colorado. This family really tries to get together every year, either Illinois or Colorado. One of Tom’s sisters is a golfer so I’m sure they did play a game or two.

If you noticed in May some people gathering around our Berkshire monument, it was Tony & Brenda Bannon and Tom & Jeanne Kelsh. Our flag pole was leaning into the trees. Tony & Brenda donated a flag pole and Tony & Tom installed the new one. Thank you Tony & Brenda for the donation of the flag pole and Tony & Tom with the installation.

Oops, I forgot to tell everyone that Ginny Joritz had celebrated her 91st birthday June 1st. We wish Ginny a very happy but belated birthday. Also, Ginny is staying at Senior Star on Weber.

Happy Independence Day. The Declaration of Independence was principally authored by Thomas Jefferson and then approved by the Continental Congress. It wasn’t signed by all the delegates until August 2, 1776, and wasn’t ratified by all of the states until March 1, 1781. Happy birthday America!

In the Dog HouseQ. What should I do to help my dog handle the noise of the 4th of July?A. The American Veterinary Medical Association recommends:

• Make sure your pet has identification tags with up-to-date information.

• Consider getting your pet microchipped. Make sure the information is up-to-date.

• Take a current photo of your pet.• Make sure your environment is safe and secure.• Leave your pets inside and at home. Loud fireworks in

unfamiliar places can be frightening.• Consider putting your pet in a safe-escape-proof room or

crate.• Check your yard for fireworks debris before allowing your

pet outside.• And NEVER leave your pet in your car.

We want to celebrate with you. Please share your news! Submit your information by the 5th of the month. Call, text, email, or drop off at 13743 S Hickory. Thank you, Mary Woods (630) 310-4163, [email protected].

Happy event for four of our residents – Jean, Joan, Barb and Peggy happened to be enjoying lunch at the Cracker Barrel, when a very nice couple across the aisle walked over and said they would like to pay for their lunch and picked up the checks. The lady returned and said they had also paid the gratuity. Our ladies said they wanted to share this happening and how nice it was to know there are some wonderful people around, who will be blessed for their act of kindness.

Just a note – it has been brought to the attention of the Board that we have residents driving just a wee bit too fast on Bayberry. Just slow it down - please.

Mary O’Dekirk is feeling very proud and blessed. Over Memorial Day weekend she attended her Granddaughter Carly’s graduation from the United States Military Academy at West Point with her family. Carly is now a 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Army and will attend Walter Reed Medical School in the Fall. Mary’s Grandson Tim, also graduated from St. Mary’s High school in St. Louis with a full scholarship to St. Mary’s University in San Antonio TX.

Good News to report! Our former HOA President Rudy Jezek is recuperating very nicely after his long health scare. He is walking and eating normally and with his daughter along even driving in the neighborhood a little as he put it, “mostly to Doctor appointments.” We are grateful Rudy is doing so well!

E-MAILSI am still trying to start an emergency e-mail list for those in Chelsea. I won’t share your e-mail address without your permission. I would use it to send out emergency announcements in-between the TOTT issues. Say – someone passes away, I can send out an e-mail with the info and the info for the services. That way, most things are timely – and not delayed. So, please drop me a line. I know I have a few of you already, just need to get the rest of you!!!

ANNIVERSARIES/ANY OTHER NEWSI am looking for Wedding Anniversaries to put in the TOTT. I know that a few of you will be celebrating big milestones this year. So, please send your info, and any other news you’d like to see in the TOTT.

go-getter and Tom & Jim would check problems that occurred & needed attention right away. They were a team. Remember, Jim is still watching over Darlington and saying to Tom, “We have to get 3 bids & don’t forget the Architectural Application”. We all know Jim had a great smile and enjoyed everything he tried to do for Darlington.

Our deepest sympathy and prayers go to the families of Pat Nolan, Mary Burke and Carolee Michalek on their passing. They will all be missed by their friends here in Darlington.

Thank You to Wayne & Vivian Foster for taking over decorating the Monument. The Memorial Day decorations were beautiful. A job well done and keep up the good work.

HAPPY JULY BIRTHDAYS to Sharon Peterson, Kanti Chandarana, Vincent Costanzo, Adrianne Carter, Gerri Mills, Craig Olson, Gordon Peterson, Helmuth (AL) Reuter, Carol Reuter, Josephine Sorce, Jerry Spillane, Jaison Thomas and Aaron Wolff.

Old Man & Wife at doctors:After his exam the doctor asked the elderly man: “You appear to be in good health. Do you have any medical concerns you would like to ask me about?” “In fact, I do,” said the old man. “After I have sex with my wife, I am usually cold and chilly, and then, after I have sex with her the second time, I am usually hot and sweaty.”

Later, after examining the man’s elderly wife, the doctor said: “Everything appears to be fine. Do you have any medical concerns that you would like to discuss with me?” She replied that she had no questions or concerns.

The doctor then said to her: “Your husband had an unusual concern. He claims that he is usually cold & chilly after having sex with you the first time & then hot & sweaty after the second time. Do you know why?”

“Oh that crazy old fart,” she replied. “That’s because the first time is usually in January and the second time is in August.”

And anniversary congratulations to: Vic and Sandee Bialczak 7/8

The May ladies luncheon was held on May 23rd at Raymes restaurant in Lisle. It was hosted by Norma Kelps and Barb Rabig. Twenty-nine women enjoyed a nice variety of food and as usual, great conversation. Unfortunately, on the day of the luncheon Barb became ill and could not attend. Linda Brif stepped in to give Norma a helping hand. Barb is fine now (just a 24 hour something). There were a few other women who could not attend due to illness. But, nothing serious. Many thanks to Norma, Barb and Linda. Well done!

Our next luncheon will be held on July 25th and will be hosted by Caroline Fontana and Gloria Walsh. Mark your calendars. As usual a flyer with all the information will be distributed before the event. And don’t forget the Summer Party, August 4th, information to follow.

Happy Days!!Eagle Ridge Resort in Galena was the setting for the fabulous wedding of Jack and Nance Nagy’s oldest grandson, Paul. Of the 36 people in their immediate family, 33 were there so it was doubly wonderful. Over 200 guests were in attendance and the Nagy’s are glad the bill didn’t fall on them!! Remember the day when you paid under $2.00 for a family style dinner? Gone forever!

And Carol Davis has spent the better part of these last months preparing for various family celebrations. Granddaughter Abby married in Grand Rapids, Michigan on March 25th. Grandson Keegan from Texas graduated Texas A & M Magna Cum Lauda. One trip down South. And weeks later Grandson Ryder, also a Texan, graduated as the Valedictorian of his High School. Trip #2 for a proud Grandmother. Three cheers for the Davis clan.

Our Ladies Breakfast arranger, Caroline Fontana, was surprised with a birthday candle pancake at the last breakfast. Remember that is the second Friday of each month at the Breakfast Club. Call Caroline if you are a new “breakfaster”. Huh?? Mens breakfast at Larry’s also the second Friday with no advance notice necessary. Just show up.

Recently one of our neighbors encouraged me to try the Yoga class at the clubhouse every Tuesday at 9:00 and/or Thursday evening at 6:00. Both floor and chair Yoga instruction. The routine helps with balance and general movement. I enjoyed the class and even with a chair felt like I loosened up a bit and intend to continue (maybe even improve). Hopefully some day lose the chair! Come try and see if it helps you.
