By Joe Ziino Our biggest event of the summer is now history.. August 9th, the World of Dogs at the Wisconsin State Fair: One thing for certain must be said about the GSDCW; We are an active and competitive club! Throughout the day, we were either competing or meeting/greeting fair goers interacting with our dogs. We did very well this year in competition, winning 1st place Team Obedience and 3rd place Best Booth Costume. This year our booth theme was styled back to our roots, as we highlighted our Alpine sheepherding beginning along with the many services a German Shepherd performs; Seeing Eye, Military, Police, Therapy, Companion. We had our Handler/Dog team of Nancy Bertsch with Macy and Marla Ziino with Peter Edward. Due to the heat, we spared the dogs from putting on their alpine lederhosen and only had them wear the alpine hat. Our handler team wore their Alpine outfits, complete with hat & red suspenders. If you have been to the Fair before to see our booth, you know we always try to do things right in a very special way to promote the breed and our club. I would like to thank Marla Ziino and Nancy Bertsch for helping me set up the booth this year. Team Obedience: Congratulations on 1st Place! Team competition is extremely tough with typically only a few points separating each team and it takes a lot of time and effort training for Team Obedience. All team members deserve a lot of credit. Obedience Team: Congratulations on 1st Place Team Obedience Linda Cekosh, Shayna Dennis Kratz Bear Donna Riekert, Koda Chris Getter, Spirit Paulette Gallatin Zeta (alternate) And special congratulations to Tim Brown who handled Linda Cekosh’s Zeke in the Parade of Breeds….who would have thought he could run around the ring at his age and still walk out of the ring! Booth Participants, Teams & Moral Support Members: Thank you club members for coming out and spending time manning the booth, hopefully I didn’t miss anyone.

Carol Lumley Ron & Camille Labinski, I would also like to thank a number of people who assisted in taking the booth down after a long day. Nancy Bertsch, Ron, Camille Labinski, Jolene, Jack Zimdars, Joe, Marla Ziino. I apologize if I missed anyone or misspelled names. We had such a great turnout; I really would like to thank everyone.

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU

A big thank you to all who participated in the July 4th demo at Malone Park in New Berlin. The obedience and agility showcased the versatility of our dogs and the socialization, both at the event and on the grounds afterward, exemplified “well trained” and “responsible dog ownership”. As one working to rewrite responsible legislation, I appreciate the example we portrayed and as a club member/4th commissioner I appreciate your sharing your holiday with our festival. possible. Again it was a great success for the club!!!!

Hope you had fun! Thanks again, Karen Grikstas Hope you had fun Without your help the trial would not be possible. Hope to see you again next year. Very Sincerely, Karen and the girls Agility trial worker coordinator, Karen Grikstas

Agility Training Update Takin’ a Break

Between some personal commitments of the instructors and reduced class attendance, it makes sense to take a break from agility training. So, there will be no agility classes held during the months of September and October. Classes will resume indoors in November. Agility is fun sport for us to share with out dogs. It’s a great opportunity to get some one-on-one time with our best friend(s), get a little exercise, and improve both verbal and nonverbal human-canine communication skills. If you are interested in joining us on Saturday mornings this winter, please contact Cheri Antony (instructor) by phone at 414-327-9912 or via e-mail at [email protected], or Lois Kutschera (Director of Training) by phone at 262-835-4245.

For those people that still owe for your business cards Please send your check made payable to the GSDCW And mail it to: Sharon Golden 28506 Ivy Lane Waterford, WI 53185 Or if you wish to change your information please see me or E-mail me: [email protected]
