The YES in Christ
Have you ever been asked to do something that you really didn’t
want to do? How did you respond?
My youngest son, Isaiah, loves to
swing. We have a swing set in our
back yard and Isaiah will find me in
the evening just when I have settled
in, “Dad, will you swing me?” My
favorite non-committal answer is
“We’ll see.” But lately, as I have witnessed the fragility of life, I
stood up from the recliner, put on a pair of sandals to go outside
and push Isaiah on the swing set (and often Emma will join us).
Their shrieks of delight as they fly through the air become music
for my soul. By saying, “Yes,” I showed my kids I loved them.
By saying, “Yes,” I laughed with my kids. By saying, “Yes,” our
relationship grew.
God has said “YES” to us through His Son, Jesus Christ. Now granted, Jesus
doesn’t always say, “Yes” to want we ask for. But Jesus says, “here’s what I’ll do
for you. You might not have a job or the job that you want, but in me, you have
someone who did the job you couldn’t do. For the times you’ve grumbled and
complained and failed to be content, I never grumbled and complained and was
always content. For the times you failed to love God and your neighbor as
yourself, I loved God and my neighbors perfectly. Through my death and
resurrection, my perfect life is yours and your sins have been forgiven. You want more? Here’s something else I’ve
done for you. For the times you’ve looked at physical treasures and found them lacking, rest assured that spiritual
and eternal treasures are yours in abundance. You also have my promise that I’ll give you the physical resources you
need for your body and life. Here’s another thing I’ve done for you. You might never achieve the status you want in
life, but you already have a status higher than anything else this world could provide. You’re a child of God and an
heir to an eternity in heaven.” (continue to page 2)
In all honesty, what more could you ask for? What more
could you need? I look at the lives of so many people
living in this world—their lives are like a puzzle with one
missing piece. Something missing that drives you crazy
until you find it. Something that drives people to plug in
pieces that don’t fit: money, possessions, fame, fortune.
Like a square peg in a round
hole, these pieces don’t fit. Life
consumes them until they are
consumed by it. The only piece
that fits is Jesus. Once that piece
is in place, the puzzle is complete
and life has purpose and
meaning. It changes the way we see things. It changes
the way we live.
This Fall at TLC, we are going to celebrate the YES we
have received in Christ. Jesus offers Himself as the
bread of life and invites us to eat and drink and never be
hungry or thirst again. Jesus calls us to use what we
have received to care for others – to say YES to our
neighbor, to say YES to the awkward teenager at church,
to say YES to the ministry opportunity, and to say YES in
the same way God has said YES to us in Jesus Christ.

Lutheran Campus Ministries of Kent
Hygiene Item Collection
The students of Lutheran Campus Ministries are
collecting hygiene items (shampoos, conditioners,
deodorants, soaps, body wash, feminine products,
toothpaste, toothbrushes, etc) to assemble hygiene kits
on campus for the local homeless. They will assemble
the kits and invite new students and others interested in
the campus mission to help the homeless. Going on a
trip this summer? Staying in a hotel? Have any of the
shampoos and soaps from your stay? Or maybe you will
be going on a trip and you can help the homeless by
bringing back the soaps, shampoos from your stay and
drop them off at the Lutheran Campus Ministry box by the
TLC mailboxes! Or you can
purchase items and bring
them in or you could make
a donation to “Lutheran
Campus Ministries.” Thank
you and God’s Blessings!
– Pastor JJ Voelker
MOPS Open House Thursday, August 23, 9:00 am-11:00 am
MOPS isn’t just a Bible study, a mom
club or a coffee time meetup. MOPS is a
welcoming place for Moms to share life
and motherhood. This ministry makes an
eternal impact through simple gatherings that offer
friendship and encouragement, childcare for a
much-needed break, resources to help moms be the
best that they can be, and an opportunity for them to
experience God’s love!
MOPS stands for Mothers of Preschoolers
(by “preschoolers” we mean infancy through
kindergarten – expectant moms are invited
too!) At the Open House, Moms can learn
more about our group, meet the steering team, and
enjoy a light breakfast. We will meet on the playground
at Tallmadge Lutheran, so bring your kiddos to play!
MOPS meetings are held on the second
Thursday of each month, 9:00 am-11:30 am.
Each month’s theme is unique, but Moms
can always count on insightful speakers, fun
crafts, small group conversations, prayers for
each other, and, of course, we provide brunch and
childcare! NEW this year, we are offering an evening
meeting to better serve working Moms: MOPS@Night
Meetings will be held on the fourth Thursday of each
month, with dinner served at 6:00 pm, and the meeting
beginning at 6:30 pm. MOPS@Night will
have an informal, relaxed feel. Moms are
encouraged to bring their older children
along as well.
MEMBERS OF TLC: How can you support this important ministry?
Do you know a young mom who is yearning for friendship and community? Invite them to our Open House!
Provide dinner for our MOPS@Night group
Work in the MOPSKids toddler or nursery rooms during morning meetings
Mentor young moms by attending the parenting book study
PRAY that the Lord would use this ministry to transform hearts and lives!
Brooke Michlberger ([email protected])
and Hannah Lang ([email protected]) would love
to share more about this ministry with you!
The Wise Owls
The next Wise Owls event is August 18. A catered
dinner with speaker Pastor Zachrich. Sign up for this
event needs to be completed by August 5. Hope to see
you there.
The Wise Owl Picnic was a huge success! The group
came together at Lehner Community Center in Munroe
Falls for a pot luck lunch and fellowship. Pictured above:

Tallmadge Lutheran Church is partnering with
Tallmadge parents and churches to provide an
after-school Christian Club called KiDs Beach
Club® at Munroe Elementary School in
Tallmadge. Last year, over 80 students participated in
this Christian after school club. KBC happens twice a
month – typically the second and fourth Thursdays of
each month.
We need your help! We are looking for members to
serve as Surf Team Leaders (small group leaders),
Snack Queens/Kings, and Lifeguards (prayer
partners) (see full descriptions below or go to https://
www.kidsbeachclub.org/volunteering). Because of their
relational nature, we would prefer Surf Team Leaders
that could commit to being at every Blast KiDs Beach
Club®. But there are also opportunities to serve on a
month to month basis.
Training events for Blast KiDs Beach Club®
volunteers will be held at TLC in Room 12 on
Saturday, August 18 from 9:00 am to 11:00 am and
again on Wednesday, August 22 from 6:30 pm to 8:30
pm. Please prayerfully consider serving in this exciting
outreach ministry! If you feel that Lord is leading you
to serve in Blast KiDs Beach Club®, please talk with
Pastor Andy, Hannah, or Kyle.
Theresa McCormack is TLC’s new Business
Administrator. Theresa began working as a part-time
business administrator on Tuesday, July 24. She helped
start and supervised the Family First Moving Company
(a Christian company) out of Hudson for over 17
years. Theresa will be working at TLC Tuesday,
Wednesday and Friday mornings. When you’re in the
church office, please be sure to stop by and introduce
yourself.
Welcome to the Staff
Mark Your Calendar FORGE Event for Men – Wednesday, August 8 at 7:00 pm Join Pastor Andy at St.
Stephen Lutheran Church (3725 Kent Rd. in Stow, OH) for a time of worship, a relevant
message, and a time of fellowship. Pastor John Corsi will share a talk about Connecting
with the Next Generation – sharing your faith with children, youth, grandkids, and
younger men. Come be encouraged in your walk with the Lord and to connect with other
godly men.
Blessing of Backpacks With each new school year comes the excitement and
anticipation of a new beginning, a new chapter! We want to celebrate the
beginning of the school year, and say a special prayer of blessing over all
students and teachers, and those involved in education in any capacity. ALL
ages of students, from preschool all the way to post-secondary, are invited
to bring their backpacks to church Sunday, August 12. At both of our
worship services there will be a special celebration, and you’ll receive a gift to
remind you that Jesus goes with you into a new school year!
Tables For Eight - Be sure to check your calendars and sign up for the week of
August 13-19 by filling out a form (found in the back of Sunday’s bulletin and by the
church mailboxes to be part of Tables for Eight) and placing it in Pastor Andy’s box.
After registering, you’ll be contacted by a Tables for Eight host who will invite you to
gather around their table and give you all the details you need to take your next step.
If you love hospitality and would like to host a Table for Eight, make sure to indicate
that when you sign up.
Confirmation Orientation – There will be a confirmation orientation for all Sixth,
Seventh, and Eighth graders and their parents on Sunday, August 26, 2018 at 9:20 am
in the TLC Fellowship Hall (gym). At this orientation, Kyle, Hannah and Pastor Andy will
be sharing the vision and goals for this year of confirmation. Confirmation will begin with
a Family Night on Wednesday, September 5, 2018 at 6:30pm.
Our annual church picnic is Sunday, August 26, at Maca Park. The picnic
begins at 12:00 pm at pavilion number one. Hot dogs, hamburgers and drinks will
be provided. Please bring a dish to share: last names A-M bring a salad or side
dish; N-Z bring a dessert. There will be games for kids of all ages and the annual
piñata. Please sign up at the Communication Center outside the church of-
fice. Enjoy the day as the Body of Christ as we eat and enjoy fellowship
together. The picnic is hosted by the Board of Directors.
