A hot water heater is an indispensable appliance
every home should have. It sure is a costly
investment but you’ll realize that the
convenience it provides is worth your every
penny. You won’t have to wait for water to boil
in your kettle just so you can use it for cooking
or cleaning. You won’t have to warm water on
the stove just so you can take a warm bath. All
you have to do is to have a hot water heater
installed for you to get hot water from your taps
and showers in a snap. Here’s our DIY
installation guide!
Selecting Your Water Heater
Water heaters are either tankless or tank-type. They can also be powered by
electricity or gas. You should also find a lot of different models in the market and
they also vary in terms of features. Choose the water heater that’s fit for your
needs. Each of these has its own set of advantages and disadvantages so you
might want to weigh things down carefully. Among the factors that you’ll have to
consider when choosing a water heater for your home include your budget for
the heater, your daily requirements for hot water, operational costs and even the
area where you’ll have the appliance installed.

Pre-Installation Tips
If it’s your first time to have a heater installed at
home, your plumbing still needs to be
appropriately configured. You’ll need to have
water supply lines and a separate valve installed
for the heater. If, on the other hand, it’s a
replacement heating unit, expect ready water
lines. Another point that you’ll have to take note
of is that tank-type water heaters are not light.
You’ll need the help of another person to carry it
from the delivery truck or from your doorstep to
the area where you’ll mount it. Have an
appliance dolly ready so you won’t have to lift it
up all the way.
Installation Guide
1. Before working on the new water heater installation, you’ll have to first shut
off the water supply. Also turn the power source off as well.
2. If you have an old water heater, drain its tank first by flushing the tank. Detach
the water supply lines and remove the old heater from its mount. Make sure that
you’ll clean the area before you install the
new unit. Also see to it that you’ll dispose
the old heater properly. Call a garbage
disposal company to take care of it for you.
3. Get the new water heater and put it in
place. Guarantee that it’s level and standing
straight.
4. Once the water heater is mounted
properly, install the new plumbing fittings.
Connect the water supply lines and then the

fuel source.
5. If you’re installing a gas hot water
heater, remember to properly connect
the exhaust flue.
6. When you’re done with the utility lines,
turn the water heater on. Turn on your
hot water faucet to make sure that the
heating system is working.
