President’s Message by glen mcewen
Tanterra Today December 2016
For those of you that attended the annual homeowner’s meeting at the beginning of November,
thank you very much for attending. For those of you that couldn’t make it, we had a great meeting!
The board recapped the year’s accomplishments from the Easter egg hunt and community yard sale
to the pool closing party. One of the biggest accomplishments was the electronic version being issued for
the Tanterra Today. If you have not signed up to receive the newsletter electronically, please do so. It has
turned out to be a big cost and time saver for the association. Email [email protected] with the email
address you want to use and your street address. A special thank you went out to Wayne Johnson and Dave
Stout for all of their hard work at the pool this year. We are very fortunate that they are our neighbors.
Jim Frye, our treasurer, presented the annual budget for 2016.
Elections for the three board seats that were expiring were also held. The three incumbents that
were running, Wayne Johnson, Dick Bertin, and Dave Bouve, were reelected.
One continuing issue keeps arising that is extremely important – the speeding on Heritage Hills. Sad-
ly, the majority of the people that use and speed on Heritage Hills are members of our neighborhood. For
the safety of our children, PLEASE SLOW DOWN!
Please remember that our community works best when we have a lot of volunteers available to help
serve on the various committees. Please see page 4 of this newsletter for the list of committees as well as
the committee chairs with their email addresses. If you would like to help out, please contact the chair of
that committee. I’m sure they would love to have the help.
Following the annual meeting, the board held their monthly meeting. Officer elections were held
with the current slate of officers all being reelected to their respective positions.
HAVE SAFE AND HAPPY HOLIDAYS AND A VERY HAPPY NEW YEAR.

Olney Home For Life, Inc. is a Village. The “Village” concept was started in Beacon Hill,
a neighborhood in Boston. It is built on neighbors-helping-seniors so they can age in
place by getting help with a variety of their needs. As the U.S. population ages, the
Village concept is becoming a rapidly growing nationwide movement with hundreds
of Villages offering a variety of supportive services to local seniors (e.g., transporta-
tion, social, light chores). A study in Montgomery County of those 50 and above
showed that over 90% desire and intend to continue to live in their own homes and in their neighborhoods. As these seniors
age they will need some level of support to live safely and happily. Olney Home For Life, Inc. is a cost-effective, and reward-
ing way for citizens in Olney to provide—and receive—those services.

ARCHITECTURAL NEWS
STREETLIGHTS - Help keep our neighborhood safe. If you see a streetlight that is leaning, turn-ing on and off, or completely out please report it to Montgomery County. It is easy to do and takes very little time. Just report it to Montgomery County by dialing 311. You will need to give the ad-dress where the street light is located, and the county will send someone out to fix it within a couple of days. In addition, if we as a community would leave a couple of lights on outside of your house throughout the night this will help deter people from outside your house. If you see something on your street that doesn’t look right, don’t hesitate to call Mont-gomery County Police. There are two ways to reach them. One is through the emergency line at 911, and the other is their business line that they will send some-one out when an officer is available. The business line number is (301) 279-8000, and you can re-port anonymously if you are more comfortable. Parking on Sidewalks – Numerous times we have put notices in the newsletter that parking on the sidewalks is against the law. More importantly those cars that are on the sidewalk are making it more hazardous for the children of our community for getting to school and around the neighborhood. If we see it as the HOA, we will report you. If you as a homeowner see it, you can report it anonymously to Montgomery County Police on the business line since this is not an emergency at (301) 279-8000. We’ve spoken to the police, and they will is-sue a ticket to those vehicles that are parking illegally and blocking any part of the driveway. Please cooperate and keep our children safe. Architectural Requests - We’ve been getting great cooperation from homeowners regarding changes to their homes. We have had instances in the past where a request was not made and the work had to be redone to meet the community standards. This ends up being more costly for the homeowner which is something we’d much prefer to eliminate. The process is easy to do and the turnaround by the committee is usually very quick. Remember to fill out the Architectural change request for any work being done on the outside of your house. This includes window and door replacements, staining your house, driveway expansion, shingles, gutters, and sheds just to name a few of the items. You can get this form at the Tanterra Web site at www.tanterra.com Should you have any questions, concerns etc., when it comes to the Architectural issues in Tanter-ra, please don’t hesitate to give me a call or email. Hank Griffith at (240) 461-7536 or [email protected].
