TRANSCRIPT
The Taptation projectʼs purpose is essentially to give common PT2399 DIY delay projects currently available the capacity to be driven by a versatile tap tempo control.
We recognize that the Taptation is not a perfect product, that there are potential issues to prevent itʼs use. Take a look at the chart below to consider the costs involved.
Element Cost Source
Taptation PCB $7-9 plus shipping JMK PCBs
Taptation Chipset $20 plus shipping DIY Stompboxes
Onboard parts $1-3 plus shipping Various suppliers
Offboard Parts $3-5 plus shipping Various Suppliers
Total $31-38 plus shipping
Because of the costs involved in adding the Taptation to any project, we fully recommend you plan very carefully!! There are plenty of DIY delay projects available out there, and the great majority of them are designed around the PT2399 chip because of itʼs abundance and affordability, and the Taptation makes for a great tap tempo control that is compatible with not only the currently available projects, but likely the majority of
future projects as well. Check out the following chart for a list of potential projects for which the Taptation is compatible - but know that this is not a complete list, other
PT2399 Delay projects may be compatible. We have gone through these projects to describe how to combine the Taptation with them. If you may try to implement the
Taptation with another Delay project and want some advice, email us for help.*Keep in mind, many of these implementations are unverified*

Taptation Implementation Guide
(c) 2013 JMK Pedals - Version 1: 01/22/2013
JMK Delay Implementationverified
Because the JMK Delay is specifically designed to work in conjunction with one of the three Taptation boards available from JMK PCBs, it is by far the easiest to implement. What sets the JMK Delay apart is that it leaves off the delay pot, meaning that extra parts are not taking up PCB space, which allows for the PCB to be installed easily using board mounted parts and leaving more room inside an enclosure. Utilizing the JMK Delay and Tapation boards should make it relatively easy to install the entire delay into a 1590BB enclosure. Here are the steps needed:- Populate both the JMK Delay and the Taptation PCBs- If you are using board mounted pots, ensure that youʼve left enough room inside your
enclosure to both mount your boards to the appropriate pots and keep the PCBs from interfering with each other.

Cave Dweller Implementationunverified
The Cave Dweller, from Madbean Pedals, is a unique PT2399 delay due to both itʼs size and itʼs unique set of controls. While not being the best candidate for being controlled by the Taptation, it is nonetheless capable of being implemented. Here are the steps- Populate the Cave Dweller PCB except for R11 and the Time Pot.- Populate the Taptation PCB- Connect the pads listed below:

Rebote 2/2.5 Implementationunverified
The Rebote is perhaps the earliest commercially available DIY PT2399 Delay Pedal project. (Say that 10 times fast). For many itʼs the first introduction to the PT2399, and itʼs a very easy, very useable pedal. Itʼs foundation is the PT2399ʼs datasheet, with some improvements. The original was improved upon with version 2, and then again with 2.5 which features more subtle corrections. Both version 2 and version 2.5 continue to be popular builds. The Rebote is an excellent candidate for taptation integration.- Populate the Cave Dweller except for the 1K resistor indicated and the Delay Pot.- Populate the Taptation PCB- Connect the pads listed below:

* Can be changed from 15k to 10k to get endless
repeats with repeats pot maxed. If this results in
undesired runaway repeats, change it to 11k, or a

This is an attempt to improve on the Tonepad Rebote2 Delay by providing better filtering. Shortest
delay time is 10mS. Maximum delay time is 580mS, repeats become a little dirty with longest delay
times, they are clean on shorter delay times. Off board components except for the potentiometers are
not shown on the layout. Trademarks are property of their owners. Visit for more!tonepad.com
PT80 Implementationunverified
The PT80 has been a very popular version of the DIY PT2399 Delay due to itʼs use of a Compander to assist with filtering. Itʼs a relatively quiet version of a PT2399 delay, and can be bought in kit form from GGG. This is a great candidate for Taptation integration, and the two can be combined very easily.- Populate the PT80 except for the 1K resistor indicated and the Time Pot.- Populate the Taptation PCB- Connect the pads listed below:

Sea Urchin Implementationunverified
The Sea Urchin is a clone of the DBD, or the “Deep Blue Delay” made popular in commercial format on ʻThe Gear Pageʼ by many users. Itʼs an expensive pedal to buy, but not very expensive to build in comparison to many delays. It features somewhat better sound than the popular Rebote in a similar number of parts and configuration.- Populate the Sea Urchin except for R18 and the Delay Pot.- Populate the Taptation PCB- Connect the pads listed below:

De Profundis Implementationunverified
The De Profundis is a relatively new design that utilizes a specific style of filtering to get long repeats without noise. The trade off of course is a lot of the high end, but dark repeats sound very analog, which can be very appealing. The long repeats of the De Profundis Delay make for a very good candidate of Taptation integration.- Populate the De Profundis except for R17 and the Time Pot, and pads M1/M2.- Populate the Taptation PCB- Connect the pads listed below:
