overall objectives
This activity has been designed to meet the educational needs of internal medicine physicians, family medicine physicians, advanced practice nurses, physician assistants, nurses, interns and residents in primary care specialties, and medical and nursing students involved in the cardiac care of patients.
At the conclusion of this learning activity, participants should be able to:
• Discuss current lipid treatment guidelines, antiplatelet regimens, optimal blood pressure goals and guidelines.
• Describe evidence-based medical management guidelines and treatment options/strategies for patients with: Atrial fibrillation, CHF, CAD, pulmonary HTN and syncope, including optimal, patient-specific choice of medication therapy, appropriate non-invasive procedures and other critical interventions.
• Examine the role of cardiac electrophysiology in the diagnosis and management of cardiovascular diseases.
• Review current research and practice guidelines related to the medical evaluation of young athletes in competitive sports.
• Review and describe current evaluation and treatment options for aortic and mitral valve disease as well as the need for early referral.
• Discuss the effectiveness of arterial grafting in CABG.
