Horror Film Target Audience Questionnaire

• I decided to produce a questionnaire to give to 20 participants. There were a range of ages of the participants. They ranges between 16-60.

• My questionnaire was specifically about Horror Films. We did this so I can collate all of the information so I would have a greater understanding of who our target audiences are, and what they expect to see and what attracts our target audience to this specific genre. This means we would know what things we should most definitely include to attract our target audience.

• A questionnaire is a great way of gathering information from a range of people to come to a conclusion that can add to research.

What I have found out…

• (Question 1) I found out that most of the people that like horror films are between the ages of 16-20

• (Question 2) The majority of people that like horror films were men.

• (Question 3ii) I found out that the main reason people enjoy horror films is because they are exhilarating and full of suspense. The use of the gory scenes keeps them on edge and the jumpy bits scare them which they enjoy the thrill of. The ‘scariness’ is the main aspect which draws the audience in.

• This not allows me to know what people like and expect to see, so I can make sure I include these feature into my film opening.

• ( Question 6) I also found out that overall, the main things they expect to see is suspense/tension,

psychological twists, unknown/questionable plot and gore scenes.

• This has given me an insight into the expectations my target audience has for their favoured genre.

This then allows me to make sure I include these aspects to ensure my target audience would be

satisfied.

My findings have been useful…

These results/answers I have collected have now given me a greater insight to my target audience, who

they are, what they are like, what they expects and what they enjoy specifically about the genre I am trying

to create. I now know that the one particular target audience my film opening will try and appeal to is 16-

20 year olds (teenagers to young adults). I also know what aspects, specific codes and conventions I need

to include to fit my audiences expectations.

As my film is a zombie/post-apocalyptic horror film, I know what sort of aspects are relevant and as I

have researched zombie films, I know how to include these typical aspects/codes and conventions

professionally and effectively.

Secondary evidence (statistics) • My group and I acknowledged the fact that our research/results may not be

as complete as other, more thoroughly researched and valid secondary

sources, thus we decided to research what other people have found out.
