In total, I had 16 responses to my survey which I shared on my Facebook profile, out of this 10 people (62%) were aged between 15 and 18, this is perfect because this age range is primarily my main target audience meaning the results will be fitting. The second most popular option was 18-21 with 5 people (31%) of people selecting this box, I am very happy with this because this age range is my secondary target audience. 1 person aged between 12-15 answered my survey and although my magazine is not designed to appeal to them there input will help me shape my magazine better and possibly increase sales within this market.

I thought that it was important to find out about people occupations because it helps me with an idea of what kinds of fashions they would like most and also the kind of money they would have to spend on a magazine. Overall, every person question was in some form of education but the majority are currently in college (75%) which means that they will prefer casual fashions for day time looks. The likelihood is that they do not have a lot of money to spend on magazines meaning I will have to price mine at a reasonable price. However 31%, 5 people, are also in part time work along side their education meaning that they may have extra money. I do not want to base my price around this because it will seclude those we don’t have an extra income from purchasing the magazine.

If my target audience do not currently read fashion magazines it will make my task of appealing to them even harder, lucky 12 out of the 16 questioned do read a fashion magazine whether it is weekly, monthly or occasionally. Occasionally was the most popular option with 6 people (37%) choosing this option, this tells me that there is a market out for my magazine. However 3 people questioned said that they do not read any fashion magazines, this means that not every person in my target audience read the magazines and tells me that I will have to ensure that my articles etc. will draw them to make a purchase.

As one of my ancillary tasks I will be making a website so I thought that it was necessary to gather some research on this area, it is worrying to me that 62% of people questioned said that they either don’t use fashion websites at all or only use them ‘slightly often’. This could be because they aren't aware that the websites exist or simply they have never felt the need to visit one. In order to overcome this I will push the use of the website throughout my magazine and will ensure that people feel a need to use the site by promoting a special competition for website users etc.

Because I am producing a fashion magazine based around autumn fashion, I decided to find out, out of the stereotypically fashion styles, which most people liked and what were the most important. 57% said that they liked the look of woolly jumpers and jeans and where them more prominently, this is very similar to my own style meaning I have a good understanding of what looks good and what's popular. Big cardigans and scarfs were the second most popular option with 6 people (37%) choosing this option, scarfs are an essential part of winter fashion and I will be doing a lot of research into them and what patterns and styles are most popular.

To get readers it is important that word of mouth plays a big part, if someone is recommended a magazine it is more likely that they will buy that one rather than one they have never heard about. 1 people said that they always tend to recommend magazine with 2 saying that they are likely to, this is good because it means that there is an opportunity for word of mouth. However this means that 13 people, a big 81% choose numbers that implied that they don’t typically recommend magazines to people or that it would take something really good to make them tell there friends to look to. Because it is such a big number I will have to act upon this and ensure that my magazine and billboard really stand out to catch peoples attention and impress people.

High street fashion is the basis of my magazine so I wanted to find out which shops are most popular because it will help me decide which shops to feature most in my magazine. As expected, Top shop was the most popular shop with 9 people, almost 50%, selecting this option, River island and H&M were also popular sharing 40% between them. In comparison, the more expensive and high range shops such as Zara and Miss Selfridge shared 10%. This means that people do still shop there but they are not as popular as common, reasonably priced stores such as Top shop and River Island. The other shops mentioned on comments were the likes of international and select which are cheap shops that copy popular clothing for a cheaper price.

The front cover of a magazine is very important in capturing the readers attention, 7 people said that a strong cover image will grab their attention and make them look at the magazine. More importantly, 9 people said that it is interesting stories that draw them in meaning that if the magazine stories are boring and there is nothing appealing to be found inside they will not make the purchase. Special offers on the price or money of vouchers also encourage people to buy the magazine because they don’t feel that they are spending as much money as they would be without the special offer.

There was a large variance with what kinds of articles people wanted to see in the magazine but one that frequently is that people enjoyed reading articles on ‘affordable high street fashion’ because it is something that is available to them and that they will be able to purchase. Another popular item that people like to see is celebrity style steals where they can see what celebs have been wearing and find out where they can purchase the item of clothing or something similar to it. Others wanted hints and tips on beauty and fashion.

People said that they would use a website if there was advertisement for it, this could be because people typically are not aware that there is a website linked with the magazine which provides new information and articles. The word inspiration came up a lot, it appears that people use the website to help them find a new outfit, to experiment with new styles of makeup or simply to get inspired on what key pieces they should have in their wardrobe. Competitions were also mentioned, this has led me to consider making a special competition which can only be found on the site which may then lead them to browse the site and utilize all of the other opportunity's that can be found on it.
