System RequirementsTargetPro Canada Server and Client can reside on the same computer, or you can install multiple TargetPro Canada Client computers to access a single Server. The computer(s) must have:

• One of the following operating systems:

Windows 2000 Professional with Service Pack 4Windows 2000 Server with Service Pack 4Windows 2000 Advanced Server with Service Pack 4Windows 2003 Server Standard Edition with Service Pack 1Windows 2003 Server Enterprise Edition with Service Pack 1Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 2

• A 256 color XGA or better resolution monitor with 1024 by 768 pixels.• A CD or DVD-ROM drive for the installation of data and software.• Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.5 with Service Pack 2, or higher.• Enough disk space for a Server installation; refer to Server Space Requirements.• Enough disk space on the C drive for the installation. In any installation, some files are always

installed to the C drive.• Administrator privileges on the computer where you are installing TargetPro Canada.

Server Space RequirementsEnsure you have enough disk space on your computer for the Server Software and data. The TargetPro Canada Server Software needs 400 MB (150 MB of this is on the C drive) but the data requirements depend on the amount of data you have purchased and licensed. The data that ships standard with TargetPro Canada can reach in excess of 3.5 GB.

Any supplemental data sets you license such as Census, Consumer Spending Potential will increase these requirements. Further space will also be necessary for the addition of customer or boundary data to the system.

Note If using your own data, in addition to MapInfo data for TargetPro Canada, then consider its space requirements as well.

Client Space RequirementsTargetPro Canada requires space on the local drive for all types of installation. The Client Software requires a maximum of 250 MB of drive space. The Client Data requires a maximum of 700 MB of space. To minimize the amount of space you will need on the drive, you can install the Client Data to a different location.

The following scenarios show the various space requirements on the local drive.

• Default installation.

The Client Software and Data are installed to C:\Program Files\MapInfo\TargetPro Canada, and C:\Program Files\MapInfo\TargetPro Canada\Data respectively.

Requires up to 1 GB space on the C drive, depending on the amount of data you install.

Page 11: TargetPro 4.7 Canada Install Guide - Pitney Bowesreference1.mapinfo.com/.../4_7/TargetProCA47_generic_InstallGuide.pdf · Chapter 1: Install Guide 7 • TargetPro Canada Server Data

Chapter 2: Pre-Installation

Install Guide 11

• Client Software installed to the default path of C:\Program Files\MapInfo\TargetPro Canada. The Client Data installed to a different local drive.

Requires 250 MB disk space on the C drive and 700 MB on a separate local drive for the boundary and geocoding data.

• Client Software and Data both installed to a local drive other than C.

Requires 500 KB disk space on C (some components are installed by default onto the C drive). The rest of the installation takes up to 1 GB depending on the amount of data.

SQL Server RequirementsIf you already have Microsoft SQL Server 2000 installed on your computer, and want to use it with TargetPro Canada 4.7 it should be configured with the following settings:

• Case insensitive code page.• Support for both Windows and SQL Server authentication connection modes.

Default or Named Instance Installations

TargetPro Canada 4.7 can be installed on a default or named instance of SQL Server. SQL Server 2000 lets you run multiple instances on the same computer; these may be either default or named instances, or both. This allows you to group common application tasks to be served by a specific SQL Server instance. Each instance of SQL Server 2000 has its own folder location for its copy of program and data files.

A default instance is identified by the network name of the computer alone. You can have a maximum of one default instance. A named instance is identified by the computer name and an instance name as follows: computer_name\instance_name. It is possible to have multiple SQL Server 2000 named instances, with or without a default instance.

Canada A boundary that represents the entire nation.

Province The set of boundaries that represent the 12 Provinces in Canada plus the Northwest Territories.

Census Division (CD) The census division boundary file is a geographic polygon file representing the graphical boundaries for Canada's 288 census divisions.

Census divisions (CDs) are geographic areas between the province level and census subdivisions. Where provincial law does not designate census divisions, Statistics Canada in cooperation with those provinces has created CDs for statistical purposes. Census divisions represent areas such as counties, regional districts, regional municipalities and united counties.

Census Subdivision (CSD) The census subdivision boundary file is a geographic polygon file representing the graphical boundaries for Canada's 5,600 census subdivisions.

Census subdivisions (CSDs) comprise the political municipal boundaries (such as cities, towns, villages, townships, and Indian Reserves) within provincial census divisions.

Census Metropolitan Area (CMA)

The census metropolitan area and census agglomeration boundary file is a geographic polygon file representing the graphical boundaries for Canada's 27 census metropolitan areas and 113 census agglomeration areas.

Census metropolitan areas (CMAs) are very large urban areas with populations over 100,000 (in the previous census). Census subdivisions (municipalities) that make up a CMA must have a high degree of economic and social integration with the "urbanized core". Similarly, Census agglomerations (CAs) are smaller areas with urbanized cores over 10,000 but less than 100,000 in population (in the previous census). Both CMA and CA geographic areas are not political; they are defined by Statistics Canada.

Census Tract (CT) Census tracts (CTs) are small urban or rural neighborhood-like communities in Canada's census metropolitan areas and census agglomerations, having an urban core population of 50,000 or more in the previous census. The population in a CT ranges from 2,500 to 8,000, averaging 4,000 in size, except for census tracts in business districts. When census tracts are first delineated Statistics Canada makes every effort to ensure that the social/economic status of census tract populations are as homogeneous as possible.

Forward Sortation Area (FSA)

The first three characters of the postal code identify the forward sortation area (FSA). Individual FSAs are associated with a postal facility from which mail delivery originates. The average number of households served by an FSA is approximately 7,000, but the number can range from zero to more than 50,000 households. This wide range of households occurs because some FSAs contain only businesses (zero households) and some FSAs serve very large geographic areas. Rural FSAs are identified by the presence of a zero in the second position of the FSA code. As of May 2001, there were approximately 1,600 FSAs in Canada.1

Dissemination Area (DA) The dissemination area (DA) boundary file is a geographic polygon file representing the graphical boundaries for Canada's 53,000 dissemination areas.

A dissemination area is a small area composed of one or more neighbouring blocks with a target population of 400-700 persons. The DA boundaries follow the road features creating the block while also respecting the boundaries of all census subdivisions and census tracts. Occasionally, a high-rise apartment building will form its own DA (if its population meets or exceeds 300).

Forward Sortation Area Local Delivery Unit (FSA LDU)

A Canadian postal code is a string of six characters that form part of a postal address in Canada. Like British postcodes, Canada's postal codes are alphanumeric. Most other postal and ZIP code systems use only numbers. Canadian postal codes are in the format of ANA NAN, where A is a letter of the alphabet, and N is a digit, with a required space separating the third and fourth characters. An example is K1A 0B1, which is for Canada Post's Ottawa headquarters. The FSA LDU is represented as a point location.

See also Forward Sortation Area (FSA).

Federal Electoral District (FED)

The federal electoral district boundary file is a geographic polygon file representing the graphical boundaries for Canada's 308 federal electoral districts.

Based on the 2003 Representation Order, each of these geographic areas/ridings return one member to serve in the House of Commons.
