    Posters are a marketing strategy and

    acts as a reminder to the consumer to

    buy it. Audiences often associate the

    style of the artist to the genre of the

    music. Their image is symbolic in

    creating a star image and determines

    who they attract.

    Richard Dyer argues that the star

    image communicates an important

    message to the consumer. We

    wanted Synergy to appeal to the

    young demographic by keeping with

    the young fashion wearing jeans and

    simple t-shirts.

    In contrast to the previous poster, this one I created has the same informationfor the event, but is marketed towards the male crowd. I used a simple layout

    with the text and design, but made it interesting by being over a guitar pick.

    I believe that both poster concepts juxtapose each other in the necessary ways

    in attracting a wider audience. The poster in that sense is effective as part of

    our campaign.

    Lawrence Grossberg, author ofThe Media Economy of

    Rock Culture (1993) believes that everything is fakewithin popular music and there is no authenticity.

    Mary Hannon, author ofMcRock: Pop as aCommodity(1998) says that Authenticity in relation tocontemporary popular music is indexed quite clearly inthe terms rock and pop.

    She makes a contrast between the genre of pop androck by saying that rock is indicative of authenticity andreal, while pop is also equally authenticity butsynthetic.

    Our music video is a mix of both of these genres which

    is good thing because it attracts a wider range ofaudience. Mixing of genres is expected and acceptedin the media. There are many famous bands that fitthis category such as; Green Day, Indigo Girls, MeatLoaf, Pink, Avril Lavigne, Maroon 5 and many more.
