1 President Nancys Message Can it really be time to write a message for February? Everyone is so busy in her personal life, her work life, her children/ grandchildrens lives – Is there time for anything else? I sure hope so. If you havent been to a Tau Chapter meeting in the past year, I hope you will make time to attend the February 11 th meeting in Jefferson City. Our program is focused on education issues in the new session of the legislature. Our speaker will be Mike Bernskoetter, Rep- resentative from District 59 representing Cole and Miler counties. Be thinking of what questions and con- cerns you would like to ask. The rest of our meeting will focus on membership. We will initiate Amy Potts. Hopefully we will have several candidates to vote to invite to join us as members in April. Strengthening our membership is one of our strategic goals this biennium. I hope you have been talking up membership in Delta Kappa Gamma with your co- workers and teacher friends. The Recommendation for Membershipform is locat- ed under Resources on our Tau Chapter website. We will also have a Necrology Ceremony for Helen Schulte who died in November. Our business meeting will be brief. Besides voting on new members, we will vote on recipients for our recruitment grants. Tau Chapter Hosts December DKG MID MO Meeting

“Jingle All the Way to Lake Ozark”

The Palmer Banquet Room within the Osage National Golf Resort Clubhouse in Lake Ozark was the setting for the Delta Kappa Gamma Mid MO holiday meet-ing on Saturday, December 2, 2016. Nineteen Tau ladies welcomed nineteen other DKG members from the Mid MO region representing four other chapters: Alpha Lambda, Beta, Beta Iota and ETA. Members registered, mingled, and enjoyed home baked cookies provided by Tau members Gracie Fields and Arlene Broeker and beverages including coffee, tea and water. Round, white clothed tables were decorated with a festive assortment of Santas, borrowed from Tau chapter members. Table favors, favorite Tau ladies’ recipes on holiday cards clipped to wooden apples decorated by Tau member, Deb Meisenhelter, as well as a Christmas tree ornament decorated by Osage students under the direction of Karen Blevins, were placed at each setting. Tau President Nancy Lewis brought the meeting to order with a special greeting, introduced each DKG chapter represented, and lead the group in the traditional DKG Song. The amazing vocal group, The Osage Upper Elementary Choralettes under the direction of our own Tau member Gloria Fields, UES Choral Director at School of the Osage, immediately entertained. The room filled with festive songs by about forty energized and fun-loving 5th graders who shared their love for holi-day music which produced a standing ovation to their grand performance.

TAU CHAPTER DELTA KAPPA GAMMA

A mixer/trivia game “Jingles and Joy,” created by Tau members Karen Blevins and Deb Ferguson, had six teams competing against one another. Members from each chapter made up each team. Trivia categories included Christmas music, “A Charlie Brown Christmas,” Christmas literature, Christmas movies, and Christ-mas food. Do you remember who we pretend the snowman to be in the song, “Winter Wonderland”? Much chatter and laughter filled the room. The winning team received holiday notepads. Tau chapter President Nancy led the group in the DKG Prayer before a wonderful Osage National breakfast brunch buffet including scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, biscuits, gravy, potatoes, fruit and pastries. All en-joyed! Our special guest, Jill Wade, LPC & Clinical Coordinator, with Citizens Against Domestic Violence (CADV), spoke on behalf of the Lake of the Ozarks area outreach center which serves residents of Camden, Miller, and Morgan counties. Crisis services are offered twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. All services which include on-going advocacy, counseling, support groups, court advocacy, sexual assault response team, and safe shelter are confidential and free of charge. CADV’s mission provides safe shelter and advo-cacy services to victims of domestic and sexual abuse as well as promote principles that educate, empower, and support those experiencing domestic or sexual violence. Grants provide a great amount of funding. Community support provides volunteers, monetary donations as well as goods and services. DKG Mid MO ladies chose to help this non profit group for the holidays. Chapters presented Jill Wade, the CADV repre-sentative, with the following donated items: ninety-three rolls of toilet paper, twenty-seven rolls of paper tow-els, ten large bottles of laundry detergent, one hundred twenty-six undergarments and fifty-two feminine hy-giene products. These gifts of love were taken to the shelter the following week by Karen and Deb and re-ceived by Jill and her team for victim use at the center. Each chapter shared the past year’s success stories and plans for the coming year. Tau newsletter editor Judy Stanford took photographs of the whole group as well as individual chapters. Each chapter re-ceived an emailed photograph. Judy sent Deltagrams a Mid MO photo. Karen Blevins and Deb Ferguson were presented with home-baked Eggnog Bread and the recipe from Tau President Nancy Lewis for organizing the event with Lake Tau ladies. President Nancy recognized Josh Crowell, PGA & Director of Food and Beverage at Osage National Golf Resort, and his staff for their fine services and assistance. The gathering ended by Tau ladies presenting each attendee with a dangling jingle bell attached to an organ-za gift bag filled with Lake items collected in November by Lake TAU members--Robin Adams, Carol Bas-sett, Deb Ferguson, Deb Meisenhelter, and Judy Stanford. Items included coupons and discounts from Osage Beach businesses, Stonecrest Book and Toy, Shabby Chic Boutique, the Outlet Mall, lotion from Bath and Body, complimentary homemade candy from Blair & Co Confectionery and a notepad and compli-mentary holiday ornament from Victoria’s Station. Memories and friendships were created, and a fun time was enjoyed by all.

I sent the photo of Deb, Jill Wade, and myself delivering all our wonderful donated items to the CADV to all papers that would cov-er most of the local home areas of the ladies that attended. I know you saw it in The News Focus in Osage Beach. I sent the article to the Eldon Advertiser and the News Tribune, California Democrat and Fulton newspaper. I haven’t heard if it was published else-where. I would like to give a shout out THANKS to all of the ladies that helped with preparing for that meeting. We rocked it with all of our efforts! I just sent cards to Shelley Smith who is recovering from surgery and Joan Marsch whose husband is undergoing cancer treatment.

The Recruitment Grant letters were sent to 12 area high schools on December 31 requesting a return of the Recruitment Grant Application form, a resume, and official transcript. The deadline for application was to be postmarked on/before January 31, 2017. I have received 3 very promising applications so far. In the past I received 8 or 10 more by the deadline date. This year we had the ice storm the first week of January and schools were closed.
