STATISTICS/ IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Chiriquí, Jamie F., et al. "State Sales Tax Rates for Soft Drinks and Snacks Sold through Grocery Stores and Vending Machines, 2007." Journal of public health policy 29.2 (2008): 226-49. ProQuest Research Library. Web. 11 Mar. 2012. (cited)

• UWG Library home page

• (Galileo scholar) • searched through

multiple databases at one time.

• My three keywords were: Tax*; Junk Food; 2005

• it indicates their views on junk food and the idea of it becoming taxed worldwide.

• They believe with a higher tax to pay on junk food less consumption of these products will occur, therefore obesity rates will go down.

TWO SCHOLARLY RESEARCH ARTICLES

Page 4: Tax on junk food revised

• Title: Denmark's, “Fat Tax” targets butter Burger Author: Ryan Jaslow (Heath blogger for CBS) Has been educated

• I found this internet news article by first going to yahoo.com, using the search engine I typed in Tax’s on junk food after using the “CRAP TEST” on all my potential sites I choose www.abcnews.com.

• This site is current and is updated daily, the information given is very reliable and give information that can be backed up with facts.

COMMUNITIES THAT HAVE PASSED A SIMILAR TAX

• not bias. When talking about a touchy subject it can get hard to not appear bias but this website went off factual information that is current.

• Then within their site I typed in (Tax on Junk food) then (Denmark Tax on Junk Foods)

SECOND SCHOLARLY ARTICLE NARROWED RESULTS• Barnhill, Anne. "Impact and Ethics of Excluding Sweetened

Beverages from the SNAP Program." American Journal of Public Health 101.11 (2011): 2037-43. ABI/INFORM Complete; ABI/INFORM Global; ProQuest Research Library; ProQuest Social Science Journals. Web. 11 Mar. 2012. (cited)

• I put 2010 instead of 2005 and instead of Junk foods I decided to search unhealthy foods.

• 622 results and after narrowing down my search brought the total number of results down to 414.

• I chose this article because it talks about New York’s recent petition to the US Department of Agriculture. The article stated, “that New York wanted permission to conduct a demonstration project in which sweetened beverages would be excluded from the foods eligible to be purchased with Supplemental Assistance Nutrition Program (SNAP) benefits (i.e., food stamps) in New York City.

BOOK ABOUT THE ISSUE

Book Title: Understanding Childhood Obesity. Contributors: J. Clinton Smith - author. Publisher: University Press of Mississippi. Place of Publication: Jackson, MS. Publication Year: 1999. Page Number: iii. (Cited)

• This book discussed how childhood Obesity is a big heath issue in America.

• I choose this book not only because it is about the topic at hand but because The author was an expert on this issue

• The article had detailed information discussing the credentials to be considered obese, and some things that can help to prevent the problem of obesity.

WEBSITES

• Yahoo.com

• The New York Times, “As part of a fierce campaign against diabetes and obesity, New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg on Wednesday asked the federal government for permission to ban 1.7 million food-stamp users from buying sodas and other sugary drinks. I felt this information was not only interesting but important.

• You should use this not only because it is credible, but it shows how obesity is becoming a epic problem, and to get results there must be drastic changes.

SECOND WEBSITE

• I Choose this website foremost because it is a credible source

• obesity epidemic and it gives us actual percentages of how many people in our population are obese.

• The site also talks about how the government has passed a similar tax on (cigarettes) and how this too needs to go toward junk foods because they use the extra money from the products causing the problems to contribute to the solution

• Yahoo.com (Obesity Epidemic)

I AM FOR TAX ON JUNK FOOD

The resources I used can only scratch the service if taken lightly, If we work as a whole and push for “Tax Junk Food” worldwide, obesity rates especially of the children will go down its inevitable.

• The federal government needs to stop paying attention to this problem and do what is right for the American people. Cheap fast food and many unhealthy foods that contain unhealthy products are subsidized by the gov't. The government needs to make healthy fruits and vegetables cheaper so that the average American can afford to spend their money purchasing real food instead of food that will ultimately lead them to obesity and a life on medication. (.99cents burger= .99cents salad)

• I say this to persuade you (my audience) to join my protest to form a “Tax on Junk Food World wide.
