A taxicab or taxi or cab is a type of vehicle for hire with a driver, used by a single passenger or small

group of passengers, for a non-shared (or shared) ride, conveying passengers between locations of their

choice. This service differs from other modes of public transport, where the pick-up and drop-off

locations are determined by the service provider, and not by the passenger.

The transportation and logistics industries have evolved, and with them has the face of privatized public

transport. Beginning way back when rides were ferried across horse carriages, to the first generation of

formalized Government-regulated metered taxis, and then the advent of Ride-hailing platforms mediated

by the second generation Transport Network companies. We claim that this is not the pinnacle of

evolution, as we present before you Drife - Taxi 3.0.

Drife is a decentralized ride-hailing platform with the intent of empowering the value creators and

extractors within its ecosystem – the platform drivers and riders. Drife aspires to disrupt the existing

business model and to create a fairer, more efficient and transparent ride-hailing economy and

transportation marketplace.

Current ScenerioThe taxi aggregator industry is currently one of the most attractive markets for investors across the

world, which is evident from the ever-increasing funding and soaring valuations of these new companies.

The existing business model has worked exceedingly well, with companies penetrating to more markets

and customers receiving affordable rides. This, In turn, has helped in creating highly valued privately-held

corporations across the globe. But these highly valued companies are yet to become profitable and are

facing criticism from multiple fronts for the way they handle their business. The recent furor over the

integrity of data shows a glimpse of the faulty system in place.

INTRODUCTION "Mobility, the big business"Background

Market Sizing

‘As everything moves,’ the global mobility service chain industry has had one of the most distinct

transformational trends in the history of mankind. With the influence of technology and economic

motivation growing side by side, the business of mobility has never been more interesting.

Currently, the global taxi market has a fair estimation of 108 billion USD. These figures are constantly

being challenged by the increasingly new forms of ride-hailing experiences.

Ride-hailing, as a multi-billion-dollar venture, has influenced many urban and suburban regions to a large

degree, bringing new scopes to drivers’ economic empowerment. Currently, the major regional coverage

for the industry spans through USA, EU, Japan, China, India, and Southeast Asia. The current valuation of

the ride-hailing market is about USD 36 billion. Analysts have projected this sum to be approximately 285

billion USD by 2030, which is eight times the current valuation.

Since the beginning of industrialization, the problems of centralization, which is the basic infrastructure of

the private sector and government systems, has plagued every major industry.

A centralized structure gives rise to many intermediaries, or “middlemen,” concentrate the flow of power,

decision making, and the economy to itself and it is difficult for any meaningful growth or development to

take place with this type of structure in place.

Centralization in the ride-hailing industry stifles growth as it concentrates control towards larger

corporations and entities that host these platforms. This essentially leaves other value creators devoid of

any meaningful rights or say in the system, and with less income, To sum up, the current centralized

system is flawed on various fronts - high (and increasing) commissions that are a major detriment for the

drivers, data breaches that put the personal information of drivers and riders at risk and centralized

control over drivers and their income.

Skyrocketing Commission

Ride-hailing platforms are known for charging high commissions from the drivers from the total fare, for

every ride. However, there is no standard rate of commission charged and it has increased over the years

from a range of 5%-8% to 25%-30%.

According to a sample of drivers interviewed for MIT research, existing aggregators increased their

commissions to 20-30% of the trip value from an initial range of 15-18%. Some drivers end up losing

money after insurance, maintenance, and other costs, according to a study raising concerns over labor

standards.

Price ManipulationRide-hailing platforms gather a treasure trove of data about its users, including riders’ location, gender,

spending history, contacts, and even their phone battery level. These platforms may soon find out

whether you’re drunk or not. While that’s scary enough, just imagine a scenario where these platforms

combine all that data and analyze it through the lens of behavioral science. This gives them a dangerous

potential to exploit users for profit.

Ride-hailing platform also personalizes their prices by analyzing users’ personal data and figure out how

price-sensitive a particular user is. Personalized pricing, which is also known as price discrimination or

price optimization, is a growing trend.

According to a recent Deloitte and Salesforce report, 40% of brands that currently use AI to personalize

the customer experience have used it for tailored pricing and promotions in real-time.

Lack of loyalty

As incumbents have established market superiority in markets and there is either a monopoly or a

duopoly situation, the introductory cheap prices are being hiked up gradually. The prices per taxi ride for

hailing taxi has become more expensive these days, and thus riders look for alternatives. The ultimate aim

of any ride-sharing organization is to create a loyal customer for the long term. But practices like “Surge

Pricing” are becoming infamous among the customers and is often a major factor in decreasing loyalty

among riders for a particular service provider.

Drivers also aren’t being loyal to a single ride-hailing service provider. Keeping up with the rapidly

changing space of the taxi/ride-hailing ecosystem has become a more daunting challenge for drivers than

those of the taxi aggregators. Such a challenge becomes a deterrent factor or keeps a driver searching for

alternatives and makes it rather hard for them to pledge allegiance to a particular ride-hailing firm,

leading to loss of loyalty fuelled by a sense of disillusionment.

The hashtag #DeleteUber, in which people posted screenshots of themselves deleting the app in protest

of Uber’s response to the refugee crisis, is one of the examples of customer rage against ride-hailing

platforms.

Platform centric problemIt is evident that the current ride-hailing app service providers promised the moon and are failing to

deliver even the most basic requirements. To aggravate the already failing situation, there is poor conflict

resolution, leading to the disenchantment of riders, inefficient feedback mechanism, absurd penalty

framework and unjust barring of users, all of which points to a hegemonistic style of working where all

that these services aim for is profits.

Our journey, at DRIFE, began by underscoring the need to evaluate drivers’ incentive to create a more

personalized economy and be incentivized to uphold the sanctity of the ride-hailing ecosystem. Our

product in no way undermines the need to circumvent the obstacles of a bureaucratic world, however,

our solution in its way creates an organic system for the ride-hailing industry to thrive well on the internet

3.0 economy and beyond.

What we’ve created in the DRIFE ecosystem is a new paradigm for the ride-hailing industry. We are the

first platform in this niche to express the full features of the decentralized ride-hailing economy. However,

it is not only the decentralized nature of it that distinguishes it from the other platforms. The platform

deals with a whole new economic model and can incentivize all the value creators inequitable terms.

The DRIFE platform is developed to solve the current concerns in the drivers’ community, alongside

enhancing the quality of rides for the customer.

No commission

We aim to eliminate excessive transaction fees, reduce censorship (reduce interference from DRIFE side)

and redistribute value back to the community while enhancing transparency.

A zero-commission structure leads to better incomes for drivers, who, in turn, can pass on some of these

benefits to the riders who save on commuting costs. So the DRIFE platform eventually becomes a

platform that provides high incomes to drivers and economic incentives (in the form of savings) to riders

as well.

SOLUTION

Offer a price, choose the drive – transparently, verifiably

At DRIFE, we are not just creating a platform for service providers and receivers; we are creating a self-

reliant ecosystem where every stakeholder plays a vital role in its growth healthy sustainability. On the

DRIFE platform, we provide drivers with the option of offering a price for a ride. Riders can choose the

ride, depending on offered rates. All of this being done on the blockchain provides an extremely high level

of transparency and verifiability.

Page 8: Taxi 3 - Drife · Taxi tank $54 bn Estimated global taxi market opportunity in 2030, that’s the half of the size of market in 2016 Most Popular Countries China ranks first in terms

08

The DRIFE platform is a true peer-to-peer network, where the two main stakeholders - the rider and the

driver - are directly connected for mutual benefit. Also, the DRIFE platform is more a community than a

service providing platform, so riders and drivers can form their networks to help each other out in times of

need.

We at DRIFE are committed to making the riders’ journey safe and we have created multiple safety

solutions which are currently absent from the ride-hailing ecosystem.

P2P Network

Safety

Psychological Test for each Driver –Following successful completion of the KYC

process, every driver must undergo an extensive psychological test before being accepted as

a DRIFE Driver Partner. Full background verification, together with a positive psychological

analysis, will enable an applicant to become a DRIFE Partner. The test is designed to analyze

such issues as road rage, the general predisposition of a driver and to avoid employing

sexual offenders. Not only will our thorough testing methods be conducted as part of the

application process, but we will also conduct periodic testing to ensure the drivers remain in

a sound psychological state.

Facial Recognition (Automation of DRIVER ID)- Facial recognition represents a

new wave of identity and authentication solutions. Every driver has to identify themselves

as the one who registered with DRIFE to start their rides. This will ensure that the DRIFE-

registered driver is matched to the driver offering the ride.

Ride Notification-This feature will allow riders to share the ride status with their network

(family and friends). When a passenger sends a ride status alert the driver will also be

notified that the ride is being tracked.

Drife is a decentralized application built over blockchain infrastructure. Blockchain is a distributed,

incorruptible, digital ledger of transactions that can be programmed to record just about anything of

value. One of the most unique features of blockchain is its quality of acting as a decentralized, trustless

database shared between parties in a peer-to-peer network. This eliminates the involvement of

middlemen or third-party intermediaries. Within the digital decentralized network of a blockchain, there

can exist not only the digital identities of the peers involved but also digital protocols and pieces of code.

Smart Contracts are such programmable computer code residing on top of a blockchain, constituting a

set of rules which are agreed upon by the involved parties. Every time the smart contract is triggered,

there is a transition in the state of the system, and a transaction is recorded on the ledger. Therefore,

blockchain and smart contracts permit trusted transactions and agreements to be carried out among

disparate parties without the need for a central authority, legal system, or external enforcement

mechanism. Drife uses them to create a sustainable peer to peer network of the users - drivers and

riders who are the platform stakeholders, having stakes in the Drife Ride-hailing ecosystem.

10

While some major blockchain-based ride-hailing service providers like Singapore-based TADA or Chasyr,

are more rider-centric, DRIFE is meant for improving the incentives of both the riders and drivers for using

the platform. Other innovations like DACSEE, which is a ride-sharing social media platform, may be very

unique in their approach, but they are not scalable. They are fit for working within a small community, but

will not function efficiently within larger and diverse communities.

DRIFE not only allows quality services in terms of drivers but also emphasizes the authenticity of their

identity. The same is true for the riders, the quality of service of the drivers is rated and are rewarded

accordingly. Thus, with great conviction, we see how a community-based approach to ride-sharing can

be realized through DRIFE, which in this respect, beats all its peers in terms of scalability and incentives.

Value Proposition for all stakeholdersAs mentioned earlier, DRIFE is more than a service providing platform, it is a true P2P community for the

mutual benefit of all stakeholders. Every stakeholder is equally important for the ecosystem to sustain

and flourish.

VALUE PROPOSITION

Higher Income-With zero commissions deducted by the platform and real-time pricing,

drivers are set to earn more per ride than other services. This will attract more drivers to

join the platform and provide high-quality service and ride experience to not only gain

more income but also higher ratings and other incentives.

Flexibility and Freedom -A clutter-free UI and ease of using the DRIFE system makes

the daily ride and work management easy. Drivers can also enjoy the freedom of choice in

categories of subscription plans, the rides to accept, the fares to quote..

Network-Drivers can create their networks by inviting more drivers into the ecosystem.

Each driver that brings another driver into the DRIFE ecosystem benefits from the earnings

of that driver. The bigger a driver’s network, the more he earns passively.

Rider Partners

Economical fares-A zero commission fee structure means better fares for riders

leading to savings on commuting costs.

Incentivized Participation-Riders can earn incentives by supporting and helping

other riders in times of need and also for active and helpful participation in the

community.

Choose your Driver-The in-built safety features ensures that riders can rest assured of

a safe secure drive. The freedom to choose the best rated and reviewed drivers or to

choose the rides that satisfy their monetary criteria empowers the rider to use the system

to their maximum benefits.

DRF Holders/ Stakers

Access to DRIFE Network-Token stakers can participate in network building and

earn rewards for their contributions

Interest on DeFi Lending-The Fintech revolution has provided a breaking ground in

this regard where people have access to all financial services, which have usually been

provided by institutions in the legacy financial system. Token Holders can lend DRF to

other Network Participant and earn interest calculated by the smart contract.

Added Utility benefits-Token holders can now enjoy all the benefits associated with

the DRIFE platform and DRF tokens in everyday life.

TECHNICAL ARCHITECTURE

The Drife decentralized application (DAPP) is built over the EOSIO blockchain infrastructure which tries to

solve some common blockchain development challenges like low speed and transaction throughput,

scalability, and high mining/gas cost, thereby making it technologically and economically more viable to

create and support enterprise-level decentralized applications. EOSIO is an open-source blockchain

software protocol that provides accounts, authentication, databases, asynchronous communication and

the scheduling of applications across multiple CPU cores and/or clusters. EOSIO’s operating system-like

construct enable vertical and horizontal scaling of DAPPs.

Drife platform is powered by the drf.io token (an eosio token) and employs a unique staking mechanism

in which these drf.io tokens need to be held and locked in (staked) by platform users - drivers and riders

to use the platform, carry out transactions on the network for availing rides, making and recording

payments, etc. The platform abstracts away the concept of staking and other platform costs (like data

storage) by wrapping them up in subscription plans for its users.

Drife System Design

By being a decentralized application, a lot of Drife’s business logic is implemented within the Drife’s

Smart Contracts and a lot of state data is persisted across Drife owned RAM, both existing over the

public EOSIO blockchain environment. However, to build an enterprise-level application that will scale,

and is easy to use nonetheless, Drife integrates a complete backend implemented in a microservices

architecture pattern with the user interface built using React and Redux. The interoperability of

microservices and smart contracts is crucial in building a unique platform that leverages blockchain

technology for overcoming significant platform-centric issues facing ride-hailing application these days.

Microservice architecture plays a critical part in allowing systems to operate at scale. Microservices are

small and autonomous services deployed independently, with a single and clearly defined purpose. They

support what are known as the IDEAL properties: Isolation of state, Distribution, Elasticity, Automated

management and Loose Coupling.

Drife is run by the following microservices:

Drife Blockchain Services

Drife Blockchain Services are a set of services to interact with the blockchain. Drife also uses Dfuse

blockchain services and APIs. Drife has multiple non-producing EOSIO Full Nodes running to which the

transactions by the clients and the Drife Oracle can be pushed. Dfuse Lifecycle APIs are also used to

submit transactions to the blockchain and receive guaranteed irreversibility in a single call. Drife used a

back-end infrastructure pattern similar to the Demux architecture described by EOSIO. Dfuse streams

real-time updates reflecting the state of RAM tables on the blockchain, and also sources blockchain

events to Drife’s Contract Action Handler which are used to deterministically update a Mongo database

in a way that makes the data stored in it verifiable by the blockchain. The database can then be queried

by the front-end DAPP through our APIs, reducing the amount of direct interaction with the blockchain to

retrieve data. This architecture enables the best of both worlds: the flexibility and speed of traditional

queryable databases, coupled with the trust and immutable properties of a blockchain. Drife’s Contract

Action Handler also forwards relevant blockchain state updates to the consuming Drife microservices.

Dfuse stream service is useful not just for the backend infrastructure, but also helps build dynamic user

interfaces that update in real-time.

interact with the EOSIO blockchain and sign and push transactions onto it, has been incorporated; eosjs-

DRF will be used as the main payment method by users for subscriptions and payments for rides taken.

Subscription prices on DRIFE Platform will be denominated in USD$ and not DRF. Drivers and Riders can

buy DRF tokens and then spend them for trips they take on DRIFE Platform. The total number of tokens a

user will get at the time of purchase will depend on the DRF coin market price.

Additionally, a token holder can stake their DRF to earn incentives and Lend DRF to others and earn

Platform fee

The services that DRIFE provides will be completely free to its commuters. Rather than charging our

Driver-partners commission to cover the costs of the services we provide, we will instead use a

subscription model, where we will get an annual fee from our driver-partners to get access to the DRIFE

Driver app.

BUSSINESS MODEL

Referral Model

In an attempt to empower the participants within the ride-hailing economy, DRIFE strives towards

building a strong community of value creators and extractors in its ecosystem - the platform drivers and

riders. DRIFE’s referral program is a step in that direction. Its primary intent is to incentivize community

building, and for creating sustainable incomes for its partners and benefits for its users. Referrals in

DRIFE are of the following types:

Ref

erra

ls Linear

Cross

Driver to Driver

Rider to Rider

Rider to Driver

Driver to Rider

Upon being referred to the DRIFE platform by a “Referrer,” the “Referred Persona” is registered onto the

network. The account name is used as a Referral ID as it is unique across the network. The Referrer’s

account name is linked with the Referred Account.

In case when someone requests to join the network without a Referral (and Referrer), the “DRIFE society”

account becomes the referrer by default. For each of the two parties involved in a ride transaction, there

are their referrers. They could either be platform users’ (rider/driver) accounts or the “DRIFE society”

account. And for each of the personas, there should be a separate component in the 2% Incentive

Component of the ride fare.

To keep up with the demand and supply of DRF Token, we have come up with a staking model wherein

the number of DRF tokens that are being staked by both drivers and riders will determine the additional

benefits they will get from the DRIFE Platform.

Staking Mechanism

Driver Staking Every driver can stake DRF tokens to level themselves up as compared to their peers; each level of staking

will contribute to ride allocation. Higher the stake, more are the chances of getting selected. Below are

details of all the levels and benefits associated with them.

Rider Staking Every rider can stake DRF tokens earned to make payment for rides. Moreover, they can use the DRF to

level themselves up and get additional benefits.

DRIFE platform in different economy

As an increasing number of people get involved with cryptocurrencies in some way, particularly retail

rather than professional investors, regulators have taken a keen interest in the industry. There is still no

uniformity among nations as to their approach in treating cryptocurrencies as either assets, securities,

mode of payment, or something entirely else. While some countries have embraced this technology and

have created a decent regulatory groundwork that has attracted many blockchain entrepreneurs (Malta,

Estonia, etc.), governments of many other major nations (like India and China) are still unsure about how

to treat this new digital asset class, although they are convinced about the potential of the underlying

technology.

This might naturally raise questions regarding the implementation of the DRIFE dApp across crypto-

friendly nations and those that have either banned or have hostile crypto regulations. However we need

to understand that DRIFE is a blockchain-based platform with the ability to pay using DRF token and

staking DRF to get additional features. Thus in countries where cryptocurrencies and other virtual

instruments are banned, we will remove the features of DRF payment gateway and DRF staking. We will,

however, follow governmental regulations and introduce DRF points which can be used in a similar

fashion to how DRF will be used in crypto-friendly countries.

ROADMAP

DRIFE will roll out in 4 stages:

Phase-1(estimated time 6 Month): We will launch the platform with 10,000 drivers and 1,000,000

commuters in Bangalore, India and will grow to 100,000 drivers in Bangalore. Drivers and Commuters

will interact using the Mobile-based platform, with a backend that will allow us to monitor the trips.

Throughout Stage 1, we will solicit feedback from all 10,000 Drivers and 1,000,0000 Commuters on a bi-

weekly basis to make continual improvements to the platform based on real-time feedback.

Phase-2 (estimated time 1 year): We will expand the program to 4 Metro Cities (Delhi, Mumbai, Pune,
