UKRAINE: ZBIG’S GRAND CHESSBOARD & HOW THE WEST WAS CHECKMATED
Ukraine: ZBIG’s Grand Chessboard & How the
West Was Checkmated is a follow up to Zbigniew
Brzezinski’s The Grand Chessboard: American
Primacy and Its Geostrategic Imperatives,
which has long been the operative canon for State
Department Hawks, Neoconservatives and
Russophobes. Since the fall of the Soviet Union,
the implementation of Zbig’s Grand Chessboard
strategy has moved at a feverish pace, gobbling
up former Soviet satellites and then converting
them into NATO forward bases. The endgame for
the West, via these moves, has always been to
quash Russian and ostensibly Chinese
independence, economic viability and, thus, their
ability to project power in Eurasia.
Ukraine: ZBIG’s Grand Chessboard & How the
West Was Checkmated speaks to the historical
and geostrategic moves by the West to control the Eurasian landmass: the broken promises and
treaties, the geostrategic missteps and, finally, how Grand Chessboard fundamentalism actually
catalyzed Russia’s re-emergence as a global power, shifted geostrategic power eastward and,
proverbially, snatched defeat from the jaws of a U.S./NATO victory.

EXCERPTS
According to Russian foreign minister, Sergei Lavrov, who was present, Putin tried to impress it upon Rice that efforts to bring Ukraine into NATO would be disastrous all the
way around: “Putin explained what Ukraine was – at least a third of the population are ethnic Russians—and the negative consequences that could arise, not only for us but for all
of Europe if Ukraine and Georgia were dragged into NATO.”
American ambassador Bill Burns who was with Rice, Putin and Lavrov at the
meeting says he listened, as Rice declared, “That each sovereign nation had the right to decide for itself which institutions or alliances it wanted to join.” Putin reportedly replied
in what would turn out to be prescient terms: “You do not understand what you are doing. You are playing with fire1.”
—Natylie Baldwin
The world is a highly complex, dynamic and multi-variant system. It is ever changing. If one were to merely consider the social, political and economic interactions
taking place among nation states, from year to year, the changes would be nearly impossible to predict. In this same vein, if one were to hold fast to a set of ideological
models, strategies and attempt to predict the relationship between nation states, some two decades hence, the odds of a successful prediction (even if one were actively engaged in its
consummation), would be a non-zero, finite sum, approaching zero at light-speed.
Yet, there are those, considered the geo-strategic elite of the West, our best and
brightest, who hold fast to ideologies and paradigms, fundamentalist political beliefs, launched almost two decades ago, that have become obsolete, dangerous and
catastrophically ill-suited to the times at hand.

UKRAINE: ZBIG’S GRAND CHESSBOARD & HOW THE WEST WAS CHECKMATED
San Francisco, CA, March 20th, 2015—The authors of Ukraine: Zbig's Grand Chessboard and How the West was Checkmated, Natylie Baldwin and Kermit Heartsong, would like you to know that all is not as it appears and that history is repeating itself, as though a reflection in a mirror—that black has, indeed, become white.
The geostrategy that has guided the US and NATO for over two decades has, ironically, destined them for a political, economic, and, possibly, military cataclysm, that few would have dared imagine little more that a year ago.
What has brought the US and NATO to a near-term geopolitical cataclysm? The answer is the geopolitical strategy set forth by Zbigniew Brzezinski’s—Grand Chessboard Strategy that had envisioned Russia
permanently subservient to a US hegemonic empire. However, having employed the Grand Chessboard strategy and utilized unimaginable wealth, power, influence, and the sacrifice of countless lives to achieve its goals, the exact opposite is actually happening—Western hegemonic implosion and the rise of a new multi-polar power block in Eurasia.
Ukraine: Zbig's Grand Chessboard and How the West was Checkmated takes readers from the end of the Cold War to the current Ukrainian crisis, in which the Western gambit to strategically checkmate Russia, has resulted in a resounding checkmate and catastrophic defeat for the US and NATO and, possibly, the world.
