GEOMETRY ON THE STREETS!
POINT A point names a
location and has no size and is represented by a dot.
LINE (SEGMENT) A line segment is
a part of a line consisting of two points and all points between them.
PLANE
A plane is a flat surface that has no thickness and it extends forever.
ANGLE An angle is a
figure formed by two rays, or sides with a common endpoint.
PERPENDICULAR LINES Perpendicular
lines intersect at four 90 degree angles.
PARALLEL LINES Parallel lines are
coplanar and do not intersect.
TRIANGLE A triangle is a
closed plane figure having three sides and three angles.
RIGHT TRIANGLE A right triangle
is a triangle with one right angle.
PENTAGON A pentagon is a
polygon having five angles and five sides.
HEXAGON A hexagon is a
polygon having six angles and six sides.
SQUARE A square is a
rectangle having all four sides of equal length.
RECTANGLE A rectangle is a
four-sided plane figure with four right angles.
TRAPEZOID A trapezoid is a
quadrilateral plane figure having two parallel and two nonparallel sides.
PARALLELOGRAM A parallelogram
is a quadrilateral having both pairs of opposite sides parallel to each other.
CIRCLE A circle is a
closed plane curve consisting of all points at a given distance from a point within it called the center
CYLINDER A cylinder is a surface
or solid bounded by two parallel planes and generated by a straight line moving parallel to the given planes and tracing a curve bounded by the planes and lying in a plane perpendicular or oblique to the given planes.
SPHERE A sphere is a
solid geometric figure generated by the revolution of a semicircle about its diameter; a round body whose surface is at all points equidistant from the center.
OCTAGON An octagon is a
polygon having eight angles and eight sides.
POLYGON A polygon is a
figure, esp. a closed plane figure, having three or more, usually straight, sides.
EQUILATERAL TRIANGLE An equilateral
triangle is a three-sided regular polygon.
