• Before 1948 on the island of Bermuda, cars were forbidden.

• You might be surprised to learn that the cowboy hat was not as widespread in the Old West as might be assumed from watching old movies. The most popular headwear on the frontier was the bowler hat. The bowler had the advantage of stability; it wouldn’t blow off in high winds. It was worn by Bat Masterson, Billy the Kid, Black Bart and Butch Cassidy.

Justin Richard Hennessy was born July 5, 1981 to Rick and Jill Hennessy in Graceville, MN. He was raised in Graceville and graduated from Clinton-Graceville High School in 2000.

Justin joined the MN. National Guard on March 18, 1999. He attended Basic Training at Fort Sill, OK in June of 1999 and completed his (AIT) 13 Bravo School at Fort Sill, OK in June of 2000.

His first deployment with Charlie Co. 1-151FA took him to Iraq from Oct. 2004 until December of 2005. This was in Support of “Operation Iraqi Freedom”. He was again deployed with Charlie Co. 1-151FA from March 2009 until April 2010. Prior to deployments, training, was done at Fort

Dix, NJ and Fort Hood, TX. He presently holds the rank of SGT and trains monthly with C-BTRY in Ortonville, Minnesota.

He attended NDSCS in Wahpeton, ND in the Plumbing Field following his High School Graduation. He has been employed as a Journeyman Plumber for Home Plumbing and Heating in Fargo since June 2001. Justin is married to Stacy (Gaulrapp) and they live in Moorhead, MN. They have 2 sons, Gunner, age 5 and Tucker, age 3.

Some of Justin’s interests include hunting, fishing, camping and spending time with his family.

• On June 29, 1613, the Globe Theater, where most of Shakespeare’s plays debuted, burns down. The Globe was a round wooden struc-ture with a stage at one end, and covered balconies for the gentry. The galleries could seat about 1,000 people, with room for an-other 2,000 “groundlings,” who could stand around the stage.

• On June 24, 1803, Matthew Thornton, one of New Hamp-shire’s delegates to the second Continental Congress, dies at age 89. Because he did not arrive in Philadelphia until Sep-tember, he missed the initial approval of the Declaration of Independence, but later added his signature to the document.

• On June 26, 1911, athlete Mildred “Babe” Didrikson is born in Port Arthur, Texas. At the 1932 Olympics in Los An-geles, Didrikson won gold med-als in the javelin and 80-meter hurdles. She had qualified for five events, but women were restricted to three events at the Olympics.

• On June 28, 1928, a 26-year-old Louis Armstrong and his Hot Five fellow jazz instru-mentalists record a song called “West End Blues.” The technol-

ogy didn’t allow for playback, so when Armstrong and his Hot Five ended their session, they hadn’t even heard the recording that is recognized as a critical influence, even on rock ‘n’ roll.

• On June 30, 1936, Margaret Mitchell’s “Gone With the Wind” is published. While recovering from a series of injuries, Mitchell began writ-ing the story of an Atlanta belle named Pansy O’Hara. A publishing company later convinced her to change the name to Scarlett.
