TRANSCRIPT
We are so excited about 2017! The Tourism Council of Bullock County’s goal has
always been to offer quality, top-rate theatre in the warm, charming setting of
a lovely, small Southern town. We want our guests to experience professional
productions while relaxing in an atmosphere of days gone by. As we continue in
the second decade of the RED DOOR THEATRE, we are proud to announce our
year of outstanding productions and offer you a glimpse of our SOUTHERN
SPIRIT!
Union Springs is conveniently located between Montgomery, Auburn, Columbus
(GA), Eufaula, and Troy. We are only 2 hours from Atlanta and Birmingham. Our
theatre events are wonderful outings for groups and individuals alike. Many
tour groups, church senior adult ministries and Sunday school classes, and Red
Hat Ladies visit with us each year.
The Red Door Theatre’s 2017 season, SOUTHERN SPIRIT, is a celebration of our
heritage, culture, and future. Each of the four plays being produced has
Southern connections and Southern roots. You are invited to come and
experience the SOUTHERN SPIRIT productions that we are offering in 2017:
♦ February 16, 17, 18, & 19 Tokens of Affection
♦ April 27, 28, 29, & 30 The Honky Tonk Angels
♦ July 27, 28, 29, & 30 The Dreamland Bus
♦ Nov 30 & Dec 1, 2, & 3 Christmas Belles
Seated dinners are served in conjunction with each production’s evening
performances. The Sunday matinee which is our closing performance allows
guests who prefer to travel during daylight hours an opportunity to attend each
of the plays. (Dinner is NOT available prior to this performance.) Although
there are currently no lodging accommodations in our community, larger cities
with hotels are only 35 minutes away. Riding tours to see the town’s beautiful
old homes and other historic sites are available.
Let us assist you in making your journey to Union Springs a memorable
experience--please contact us at (334) 738-8687 or email
[email protected] for information or ticket orders. You may visit our
websites at www.unionspringsalabama.com to discover our city’s many

Tokens of Affection Tokens of Affection Tokens of Affection Tokens of Affection BY TOPHER PAYNE
DIRECTED BY KATHRYN ADAMS WOOD
FEBRUARY 16, 17, 18, & 19 —2017 Tokens of Affection explores the empty nest syndrome, complications of
long-term romance, and general family dysfunction when a wife of 37
years announces she’s leaving her husband. Each partner seeks solace
at the homes of their grown children, and hilarity ensues. A gem from
the wonderfully witty mind of Atlanta’s own Topher Payne! The
Garrett family is learning that although the big things in
life get all the attention, it's the little things that matter
most. This show is packed with clever dialogue, huge laughs and
beautifully tender moments. Definitely one not to miss! (theatrereview.com)

JULY 27, 28, 29, & 30 —2017
The Dreamland Bus, a haunting memory play about the Bradleys of Columbia, S.C., is a
charming, funny, deeply touching, and life-affirming story about family and
homecomings based upon the playwright’s family and his Southern up-bringing.
(theatremania.com) The title reflects the words of his father, a Southern doctor, when
the children were being put to bed – “it’s time to get on the dreamland bus."

NOV 30 & DEC 1, 2, & 3 —2017
It's Christmas-time in the small town of Fayro,
Texas, and the Futrelle Sisters—Frankie, Twink and
Honey Raye—are not exactly in a festive mood. A
cranky Frankie is weeks overdue with her second set of
twins. Twink, recently jilted and bitter about it, is in jail for
inadvertently burning down half the town. And hot-flash-suffering
Honey Raye is desperately trying to keep the Tabernacle of the Lamb's
Christmas Program from spiraling into chaos. But in true Futrelle fashion, the
feuding sisters find a way to pull together in order to present a Christmas program the
citizens of Fayro will never forget. Their hilarious holiday journey through a
misadventure-filled Christmas Eve is guaranteed to bring joy to your world!

BECAUSE YOU ASKED!!! In 2017, once again you will be able to hear the classic tunes of Hank Williams at the Red Door Theatre!
There is only one Hank Williams and only one actor who can bring him to life—JASON PETTY. Jason began portraying the legend, Hank Williams on country music's biggest stage in 1996, the world famous Ryman Auditorium, in the critically acclaimed musical biography, Lost Highway. After two years, he began touring the US, including the Alabama Shakespeare Festival, and Canada with the show. In 2002, the show went to New York and made its off Broadway debut where Jason earned off Broadway's highest acting award, The Obie, for his riveting portrayal of the musical genius and tortured soul, Hank Williams.
And now, audiences at the Red Door have the opportunity to see Petty’s bigger than life performance in his one-man show, Hank Williams—The Lonesome Tour!
The Red Door Theatre is offering this incredible musical production first to our season subscribers who will be permitted to purchase the same number of tickets as they purchase season subscriptions. Orders must be in by January 4, 2017, to receive priority consideration. (This is just one more reason to order season tickets!) Any remaining tickets will go on sale as general admission to the public on January 5, 2017, on a first-come basis.
The Tourism Council of Bullock County and the Red Door Theatre are excited to offer this outstanding production of the very entertaining Jason Petty in HANK WILLIAMS—THE LONESOME TOUR.
I WAS GENUINELY SURPRISED, STUNNED BY PETTY’S FORCEFUL,
CLEAR-EYED AND MOVING DEPICTION OF WILLIAMS.
