Well, I thought I had better get started on mycolumn for the next Bull & Ton as I visualize a lotto talk about. So, today, Thursday, June 21st,the First Day of Summer (Summer Solstice), youall know what that is so I won’t burden you witha definition. Oh yea!
In passing, let me remind you that we haveboards and shirts for sale fol lowing theDartmania Extravaganza. Quality merchandiseat good prices. See Mike Anderson.
By the time you read this you may already knowthe results of the Tournament of Championsheld August 28 at the American Legion Post 1. Iknow a good time will be had by all and I want tothank the Post for the special drink prices. Wealways have a good time at Post 1.
I was happy to be the Acting Editor for awhile. Itgives me great pleasure to turn this responsibili-ty over to Jeff Hafner who, from now on willworking with our good friend, Tom Cushing. Thanks Jeff and Tom.
Put this on your calendar. The next Captain’sMeeting is September 4th, a Tuesday, at theLittle Wagon.
As you know, the f irst annual MinnesotaDartmania Extravaganza was held three days inApril. This annual event was possible throughthe generosity of TCDA member Bruce Fink. This is Bruce’s way of saying thank you for allthe good times he has enjoyed through theyears. It’s gratifying to know that our organiza-tion provides a social atmosphere conducive tohaving a good time playing darts. Incidentally, for those of you who could not attend, youmissed a great time. More on that activity else-where in the Bull & Tom by Tournament Director
Mike Anderson. I had a camera and took a fewpictures. Noted were Tom Wheaton with his dadand John McGovern with the Mrs. Also presentwere Sharon Teat and friend Chris Perez fromLake Elmo. They are electronic darters whocame to the tournament at my request. I havebeen in touch with Sharon in the hope that shewill spearhead a group that will join the TCDA.We are always on the lookout for top shootersand in this case, I was eager to get Sharon inter-ested as she is one of the top electronic dartersin the country. She and Chris are pictured atDartmania.

Like all successful promotions, you must havegood workers. My hat is off to Mike Anderson,Sharon Lohmar, Margo Ulrich, Johnny Hubbard,Jeff Hafner and Tom Wheaton.
Congratulations to Dick Sorenson for his workcoordinating the Summer League.
With a little luck and some planning, BoardMember Johnny Hubbard will have an in-houseleague joining the TCDA in September. Thisgroup will play at the Buffalo Tap pub. Johnny isalso trying to get a doubles league going, prefer-ably on Monday night. It would be open toanyone in addition to their regular night leagueplay.
Well, you have made your choices and thevoting is over. I am happy that you have allowedme to serve another two years and glad thatGreg Oldenkamp is able to stay on board as hedoes a bang-up job as Treasurer. You haveelected Johnny Hubbard and Dave Blake. Gladto see John back and happy to welcome Davealong with John Edgerton who is new to theBoard also. Good luck newcomers, I know youwill enjoy the work and fun.
Have you tried our web site yet? Don’t forget tolog on!
Vice President Peter Jirik has done commend-able work on behalf of the TCDA includingupdating and modifying the Rules and By-lawsas required. What we do without his legal exper-tise.
I guess that about does it for now. Get the olddarts out and practice a bit to look good onleague night, September 11.
Good darting,

It’s Official. We now have our own WebSite. www.twincitydarts.comby Mike Morson
If memory serves correctly, it was back in Mayor June of last year that the TCDA Board ofDirectors decided to proceed with the task ofgetting online representation for our organiza-tion. At that time, we learned that a group inEngland (with absolutely no connection to dartsby the way) had already registered “tcda.com”but they were very willing to sell it to us for$990.00! Needless to say we declined theiroffer.
Since then, many individuals have collectivelyvolunteered hundreds of hours to make our Website a reality. Apart from the $50 to register oururl with Network Solutions, the site costs usnothing. The monthly hosting fee has even beenwaived by our service provider, Sound Internet,in exchange for an advertisement in this publica-tion. So, while we’re on the subject, if you arelooking for an A-1 Internet Service Provider, orare unhappy with your present one, get in touchwith them – there are links to scc.net on our site.
Want info about upcoming Tournaments?
Forget where you shoot tomorrow night?
Want to set up a dart board at home?
Need an extra score sheet for tonight?
Want the date for the next Banquet?
Need a Pub List for a friend?
Answers to these and many other questions arefound on the pages of “twincitydarts.com”. Fromthe beginning, the site was designed to be asource for useful information about steel tipdarts in the Twin Cities.
Here’s an overview of what you’ll find on yourfirst visit to the site:
• Coming Events…Tournaments, meetings and more.
• Darts in the Cities…Pub List, Bull & Ton Archives.
• League Info…Schedules, Standings, Rules & By Laws.
• Useful Info…Score Sheets, Out Chart, Chalkers Tips,Dart Board setup Diagrams.
• Join a League…General information and how to contact the TCDA.
• TCDA history…“The First 25 Years”.
• Other Dart Links…Dart related sites, including an online dart game. Send us your favorites.
We think we’ve met the criteria of providinguseful and interesting information for you anddart players around the world. Newcomers to theTwin Cities, visitors, travelers, anyone can nowfind a friendly Pub and a game or two when theycome to town. There’s nothing more frustratingthan being in a new town and not able to find aplace to throw darts. Thanks to the internet andsearch engines, these frustrations are a thing ofthe past.
“twincitydarts.com”
The second and equally important purpose of“twincitydarts.com” is to help recruit newmembers. We now provide an open invitation onthe site to all interested parties along with threeways to make contact with the TCDA andbecome a member. Now, when someone asksyou about joining a team or becoming a memberof the TCDA, all you have to do is refer them to“twincitydarts.com” where they’ll find everythingthey need.
A plan is also underway to contact other regionaldart organizations in order to exchange links toeach other’s sites. This way, we can get theword out about our tournaments and otherevents of interest.
“twincitydarts.com”… a Work In Progress.Do keep in mind that this is the “first draft” asthey say, and we need your opinions and com-ments about what needs to be done to improvewhat we’ve started. Please visit the site andcheck it out thoroughly – make it a point to visitevery page and every link in order to prepare a“Report Card” on what you find. This is yourWeb site and you should feel good about it.Don’t be afraid to submit good constructive criti-cism about your findings. You’ll find an e-maillink on the “Contact the TCDA” page for sendingus your feedback. We’ll check the mail daily andacknowledge your input – it’s the best way wecan think of to improve a good thing.
What’s Next for “twincitydarts.com”?Automated score reporting. The next “Bull &Ton” published online. Tournament resultsposted the same day. Standing sheets distrib-uted via e-mail. A TCDA chat room? These aresome of the goals we ’ve set for improving“twincitydarts.com”. We are currently compilinge-mail addresses for as many TCDA membersas possible. When we have a good list, the inter-net will become an even more valuable commu-nications tool for all of us. Last minute noticesand current news can be sent via e-mail to ourentire membership with the click of a mouse.
Some of these goals are farther off than others, but eventually we hope to achieve every one of them.
Calling All Internet Experts! If any of you have skills and expertise to help usachieve our aspirations for the site, please get intouch with Mike Morson ([email protected]).Discuss your ideas, share your insights, tell himwhat you see as a solution for some the obsta-cles we need to overcome. He can use all theadvise and help he can get.
As mentioned earlier,“twincitydarts.com” is theresult of a team effort. Information had to begathered. Lists had to be compiled. Proofreading, coordinating, checking and doublechecking content. It was a major undertaking. Our new Web site is another example of yourBoard at work on your behalf. The next time yousee a Board member, tell him or her that youappreciate their efforts.
New TCDA Logo Evolves with Web Site.As shown above, on the front of this issue of the“Bull & Ton”, and as seen throughout the newWeb site, we now have a new logo for theTCDA. It “evolved” automatically with the designof the Web site’s home page. What do youthink? Do you like it, love it, or hate it? Now’s theperfect time to write a quick letter to the editor orsend an e-mail to the Web Master, and expressyour opinion. We’d love to hear from you.

Minnesota Dartmania Extravaganzaby Bob Marley
Once again, the TCDA has a big tournament. Ithas been a few years since our club has beeninvolved in a large event that brings in many out-of-town shooters. It was a great chance to seehow well we stack up against other competitionboth locally and nationally. There were manyout-of-town shooters from as far away asIndiana, New Jersey, Georgia and several of ourfriends from Iowa.
There were also many nationally ranked shoot-ers including Dan Lauby who has recently beennamed as a member of the A.D.O. World Team.Even with all of the out of town people, ourclub’s members did quite well. I talked to DanLauby at the tournament and he commentedabout the high level of play, along with howmany great shots we had for an event this size.
I would like to thank the tournament committeefor all their help, which without it would not havemade this event possible. A special thanks toGeorge Peters for designing our poster, shirtsand logo.
We can’t thank Bruce Fink enough for havingthe interest in bringing big tournament dartsback to Minnesota. Bruce’s sponsorship willenable us to continue to hold this event in thefuture. So next time you see Bruce, let him knowhow much you enjoyed the tournament.
Anyone interested in helping out for next year’sevent. please contact Mike Anderson. Picturesand the final standings not listed here will beposted on our web site. Hope everyone had agood time at this year’s event and look forwardto a bigger and better tournament next year.

National Championship for twoTCDA members
by Bob Marley
New York, New York, what a city. Well, it hasbeen a long road to make a trip to the Nationalcompetition. At the end of January, two of ourclub members, Mike Anderson and JanAnderson (no relation) made a trip to the nation-al cricket championship in New Jersey. The tripwas made possible because both of them wonthe ADO regional championship which gavethem a free trip to the nationals. Once theystarted play on Friday, they had to play a roundrobin with eight people in each group.
In order to go to the next round, Mike had to beone of the top two in his group and Jan had tobe in the top half of her group. After the end ofthe round robin tournament, both fell short ofadvancing to the next round. There 40 men and24 women that made it to the nationals and itwould be safe to say that the best shooter in thecountry was there. Mike was shooting anaverage of about 6-7 marks a round and thatwas not good enough to advance. He beat someof the players but, when when you play at thatlevel, you can’t miss or you’ll lose. So you cansee that the level of play was quite high. Mikesaid “it was very humbling to go to the nationalsand play some of the best shots in the country. Igave them all I had and I guess that was notenough. It was a great chance to see what ittakes to compete at the national level.”
If you have any question about the ADO nationals or how to get involved in it, ask eitherof them.

Joel Johnson
by Charles Stutz
For years we have been getting trophies fromour good friend Joel Johnson, owner of theEngraving Shop. We thank him for the good jobhe has always done and at a good cost to theTCDA. He isn’t familiar to most of you so Ithought it was high time you made his acquain-tance. In this picture, I met Joel for lunch and topick up my trophy. I got the trophy but Joelcouldn’t stay for lunch. Maybe next time.
Sharon Teat
by Charles Stutz
I buy a Pioneer Press every day of the week. INovember of 1999, the article that caught myeye quickly was “Woman goes from rank begin-ner to world competition.” Yes, it was aboutdarts, electronic darts. There was a picture ofSharon addressing the board. Then and there Iknew I had to fol low up on this basicallyuntapped area of darts for expanding steel tipdarts in the TCDA.
Sharon, who has been playing since 1984 ascompeted on an international level. She andthree others represented the United States inLowen Tournament Dart World Championship inGermany, 1999. It was more difficult playing onthe smaller European boards, she did howevercome in at a respectable fifth place.
It was a nice surprise to have Sharon and Chrisat our fir Dartmania tournament and I know theyhad a good time.
I have kept her acquainted with the literature ofthe TCDA and by phone. My earnest hope isthat she and her colleagues will find out what apleasure it can be to play in the TCDA either asan in-house league or as they say in golf, “onthe tour.”

Farewell TomWe are all aware that nobody lives forever.
How true, but on April 18, 2001, we lost TomPeebles at age 60. Tom was an active darter for
many years and was loved and respected by thosewho knew him well as a member of team Thunder
in the Gold Division.
Tom does not leave just his wife Laurie, hisdaughter Kelly, his son Brian behind, but manyfriends who loved him. He will be missed by all.
