UCARSOL™ AP 804 and UCARSOL AP 806 solvents are two additions to a series ofadvanced-performance gas treating solvents from The Dow Chemical Company.Specifically designed for bulk carbon dioxide (CO2) removal in gas processing to meetpipeline specifications, UCARSOL AP 804 and AP 806 solvents are effective in bothsweet and sour gas streams.

Low heats of reaction combined with the ability to remove both CO2 and H2S allow thegas processor to meet tight sulfur specifications while meeting product gas BTU and CO2

specifications. UCARSOL AP 804 and 806 solvents also provide significant operatingsavings compared to other commonly used solvents.

UCARSOL AP 806 solvent is designed to handle lower pressure gas streams (<300 psia or2.1 MPa) requiring a high degree of CO2 removal whereas UCARSOL AP 804 solvent isdesigned to treat higher pressure gas streams containing moderate levels of CO2. Bothsolvents have better high temperature performance than other commonly availablesolvents.

Computer CapabilitiesWith information drawn from the actual operating conditions of over 500 plants, Dow hasthe largest formulated solvents database in the industry. Dow’s sophisticated computerprograms provide a powerful tool for process analysis and design, including tray-by-traycalculations. Hydraulic evaluations can be made of existing trayed or packed towers, facilitating a troublefree conversion to UCARSOL solvents.

Field representatives have laptop computers that can be taken into a customer’s plant, making it possible to predict the performance of UCARSOL solvents under actual plantconditions. In addition to its use as an in-field preliminary design tool, the laptop computeris extremely valuable after conversion to make any adjustments necessary to optimize theprocess.

Laboratory and Field TestingDow’s Analytical Services Laboratory performs regular service analyses of customersolvents to ensure good performance of the amine unit, as well as specialized analyses toassist in troublefree operation. Among the routine analyses performed are ionchromatography, atomic absorption, and solution alkalinity. Specialized analyses includegas chromatography/mass spectroscopy, FTIR (Fourier Transform Infra Red), ICP(Inductively Coupled Plasma Spectroscopy), NMR (Nuclear Magnetic ResonanceSpectroscopy), and x-ray fluorescence. Analyses are normally completed and reported tothe customer within a few days. Dow’s written report usually includes a technical serviceinterpretation of the analytical results and their impact on the customer’s operation.

Sample KitsDow offers a unique sample kit. Completely self-contained, the kit provides everythingnecessary — from containers to labels — to obtain lean amine samples, seal them, andsafely ship them for routine analysis.

Other ServicesDow’s engineering expertise is also available to provide information on process andequipment requirements, and Dow’s corrosion group can assist in field inspections or setup corrosion-monitoring programs for customers. Also, Dow trains customer personnelprior to and during conversion and works with them to attain optimum performance.
