1. Prologue

Oil-cooling motorized drum is a new type driving unit used in belt conveyors. It has special advantages as described below.Motorized drum is inserted in the cavity of the drum, it has characteristics of well knit structure, covering less area, goodlooking appearance, easy and safe operation and simple maintenance. It has characteristics of light weight, using less metal material and low production cost.

The technical manual introduces to consumers products use, structural property, Installation, operation, maintenance, overhaul and choice, which in order to pay attention to motorized drum in operation, ensure long employment life and reliable performance.

2. The use of Oil-Cooling Motorized Drum

Oil-cooling motorized drum is a type driving used in belt conveyors to operate major part in driving belt.

Oil-cooling motorized drum seals hermetically well, it can be used in the place of plenty dusts and moist place. With sealed junction box, motorized drum can be used indoors and outdoors.

Motorized drum uses class-B insulation motor. Its electromagnetic part is similar with Y type model motor. In order to show difference, the drum is named YG type since the cooling way and structure are developed. The motor uses high-point grease and heat-oil resistant rubber sealing ring. So it can operate safely in the place of the environmental temperature below 40°C.

Motorized drum can not be used to transfer materials of high temperature or in places with the danger of explosion.

3. Structure Figures

a) Structural Principle (see Figure 1 on next page).

In the cavity of the drum, the motor with ring cooling fan is supported with left and right flange shafts which are fixed on the bearing. The main shaft of the motor revolves to make the two external gears and two ring gears Rotate to let the drum revolve reductively. The cooling lubricating oil in the cavity of the drum can wash the case of the motor to cool it when the drum revolves, and lubricate the gear shaft (not including the motor gear shaft)

b) Design features:

-The parts of the motorized drum are of good internalization and easy to mount and dismount. - Collar screws on bearings, easy to mount, dismount and move. - Lead screws easy to dismount. - Grease filler hole and oil drain hole, and easy to change lubricating oil.

5. Mount, Adjust and Trial Operationa) Motorized drum must be mounted according to the requirements of TD75 fixed belt conveyor and delivered belt conveyor.b) Trial operation: After mounting, new or overhauled drum must be taken 2 hours no load trial operation and 8 hours load trial operation. To exam carefully as below:(1) Inspection before operation:- Check the wiring of the junction box.- Check the quantity of lubricating oil if it reaches the height

of 1/3 of the drum diameter. - Rotate the drum with hands to check if it has block in

rotating.(2) Check as below in and after trial operation- If it runs smoothly and has no period blast noise- The bearing must not have abnormal noise- If the junction screws lost motion.- Technical properties must satisfy the design requirements.

6. Rules of Operationa) Motorized drum must be started with no load.b) Check the height oil periodically and replenish it with oil

according to the oil loss.c) Lubricate according to the Lubricating requirement. Form

for lubricating requirements as shown on the chart on the right:

7.Maintenance of Motorized Drum

Besides operation according to the rules. Periodic maintenance must be taken according to the times below:a) Maintenance must be done every 6 months.• Clean the reduction gear of the roller. exchanging cooling

lubricating oil.• Solid lubricant must be oiled into the body of the motor

shaft.• Check the wear and tear of the rubber seal, adjust the

tensile force of the spring of the seal washer.• Check if oil immerse the motor winding of the oil-cooling

motorized drum. New rubber seal must be used if oil stains are seen.

b) Middle maintenance must be done a year• Clean the reduction gear. Check the wear of it. New gear

should be replaced if the wear and tear of reduction gear is over 1/5 of the width of tooth top.

• Clean all bearings of the drum.• Make maintenance according to the maintenance

requirements of motor.c) Heavy repair must be done every 2 years.• Dismount all parts to check and repair or replace the wear

and tear parts.d) Dismount and mount the motorized drum as below when

repairing.• Remove the oil drain hole screw(16)let cooling lubricating

oil out.• Open the junction box and dismount the wiring of motor.• Loosen the fastening screws in the base for junction box,

remove the base.

• Withdraw from left-bearing (13)• Loosen the left end cover (10), remove it with lead screw.• Tighten the collar screw on the left bearing into the screw

hole on the shaft end of the right flange shaft (25), and hoist the drum vertically with a cram, remove the left end cover (10).

• Loosen the right end cover of motor (24), remove it with lead screw, pull out the drum body(1) to check it,If it needs further dismount, continuing in order.

• Loosen the set bolts of the flange shafts. dismount the left and right flange.

• Dismount the pinion.• Remove the left and right end cover.

When mounting, do the same on the opposite sequence, the quality of the mounting must be assured when repairing.

8.The Way of Wiring Motor

The rated power of the motor is 50Hz, the wiring way of 3kW or below:380v is Y connection. The wiring way above 4kW: 380v is A connection. The wiring between the roller and the power must be firm and safe. The ground wire must be strongly connected with the pole in the junction box, making the shell have a good ground connection. Protection devices mated with the selective the roller such as overload must be installedin the circuit.
