A Wedgwood Story

Wedgwood and tea have been inextricably linked throughout history. Josiah Wedgwood, ever perceptive to trends, began designing tea ware collections in response to the emergent fashion for drinking tea. This fashion flourished with the growth of trade routes that brought this new commodity from the Far East to England. The adoption of these collections by Queen Charlotte and subsequent permission to rename the collection ‘Queen’s ware’ marked the beginning of an enduring association between Wedgwood and the world’s Royal Families and eminent leaders. As ’Potter to Her Majesty’, as he was now known, Josiah Wedgwood’s tea ware grew in popularity with the aristocratic classes, including the Duke and Duchess of Bedford who became

enthusiastic collectors. It was in their honourable home that the tradition of Afternoon Tea originated; a convivial pause for refreshment between luncheon and dinner, served on her finest Wedgwood service. Today, the Wedgwood Tea Collection has over 50 blends sourced from the finest tea gardens across the globe. Each blend has been carefully chosen by Wedgwood’s Tea Expert for taste, aroma and provenance, ensuring only the finest quality teas are available. Our Tea Sommeliers are expertly trained in the art of tea and tea tasting. They will guide you through the Wedgwood tea menu, ensuring your selection perfectly suits your tastes.

Speciality Teas

Wedgwood Exclusive Oolong (China)

Master Xu

This roasted Oolong comes from the heart of the Unesco protected Wuyi area of China’s Fujian Province.

Made from small batches by Master Xu one of the few people to have made the original Da Hong Pao Oolong, from six protected ancient trees.

The original old tea bush grew opposite where the local people washed their clothes in the river. Whilst washing, it looked like they were bowing down before the tree, giving the tea tree its special name.

Like all good Oolongs, this tea can be brewed many times.

Tasting notes

Rich, dark roasted flavour with fruit and cinnamon notes.

£10.50 (per pot)
